A Closer Look at Polysexuality 🩷💚🩵

Polysexuality is an identity for people attracted to multiple (or many) genders, though not necessarily all genders. The prefix "poly" means "many," hence the name! Someone who's polysexual might be attracted to women and nonbinary people, or men, women, and agender people—in other words, there are no rules on which specific genders a polysexual person might be attracted to. Additionally, polysexual people might be attracted to different genders equally, or be more attracted to some genders than others.[1]


Polysexuality is similar to bisexuality—and, in fact, bisexuality is often considered an umbrella term. "Bisexuality" is a term for people attracted to more than one gender, while polysexuality specifically refers to people attracted to "many" genders; while the two are related, they're still distinct! Polysexuality is also often compared with pansexuality—but again, the two are distinct. Pansexuality means being attracted to people regardless of gender (meaning it can encompass all genders), while polysexuality is attraction to many genders (but not necessarily all). And while they sound similar, polysexuality is not the same as polyamory, either; polyamory means having more than one romantic or sexual partner at the same time with consent from all parties, while polysexuality defines who you're attracted to.
