Is it true that the Tokyo Ghoul anime changed some plot points compared to the manga?

Yes, after the first season of Tokyo Ghoul, season 2 diverged from it, and they started to tell their own story. Then, in the third season, they seemed to try to get back to the manga storyline. So if you’re just watching the anime, you skip a whole season's worth of stuff from the manga. I’d say the manga is a much better way to experience the story.
