Ricky Armellino is a musician based in both Lancaster, Pennsylvania and Los Angeles, California. As a self-taught vocalist, guitarist, and music producer, he is passionate about all aspects of the music industry. He has played as a musician with multiple bands across over 60 international tours with Ice Nine Kills, HAWK, and This or the Apocalypse as both a lead singer and a guitarist. In addition to his bands and personal musical projects, Ricky has worked with singers, bands, video game/film companies to create over 500 released productions through multiple modalities, including songwriting projects, technical music production, sound mixing, and engineering. Ricky runs a studio in both Lancaster and LA, and cares about incorporating meditation and nervous system regulation as a way to freely express creative energy and produce interesting song lyrics and production work. He received a BA in English from the University of Alabama.

The calluses will show up casually, without much fanfare, as a new player continues to treat each practice session as another building block in a larger structure. All the important changes that come with playing an instrument happen gradually, but the one thing I can say is that being in the right mindset leads to putting down stronger blocks, as the brain adapts more when it is less distracted. Don’t ever chase pain. If your fingers hurt, simply come back the next day, and if they still hurt too much, come back the next! You can always rehearse other concepts like tapping out rhythms or things that won’t damage the skin!
What is the best guitar to get for metal music?
For playing metal music, I would recommend an Ernie Ball Music Man guitar. They have a Sterling line, which is cheaper. Simply go on YouTube and watch a few of your favorite guitar players, see what type of guitar they play, and then do a little bit of research and look at the different tiers of products that you could get that would match that type of instrument you like. At the end of the day, you're going to be able to get great results with pretty much any type of guitar.
