There are two things to look at. First off, you can evaluate the ethical nature of a product. If an company does evil things, I'm not going to buy their products, right? I'd rather give my money to something that's more ethical. So there’s that consideration. However, the main key is knowing whether something is halal. Halal is away from being ethical. Halal means that something has no alcohol, no pork, there's no blood in it. When it comes to Doritos, you need to look at the ingredients, and make sure that there's nothing that there’s nothing within it that would either be considered alcohol, pig, or pork.

Doritos are not typically considered to be haram. There has been a lot of anxiety over hidden pork enzymes in certain processed foods, but we have a legal principle where things in almost insignificant amounts aren’t considered. There is some discourse and disagreement around this, though. For example, things like gelatin, which a majority consider to be pork-based is forbidden. However, some scholars believe that it’s so processed that the final product has no remaining pork and it’s a different substance entirely. On the other hand, using wine in foods when cooking or baking, when it doesn’t cook out, may be considered haram because it is still part of the composition.
There are 4 schools of law whose methodologies coexist and may not always agree on things. The way they dealt with intellectual diversity when it came to law is that if it's a valid opinion in any of the schools, you take it. For any specific scenario, you can also consult a "Mufti", who is a scholar who specializes in giving legal prescriptions for issues depending on someone's context.

There are some ingredients in Doritos that could be Haram. For example, gelatin is often considered Haram, and there are certain enzymes that may be added. So in general, we consider Doritos could be Haram, but it really depends on the ingredients. And sometimes there could be those ingredients in the United States, but may differ from country to country. In that case, you have to look at the packaging and see the ingredients. But from what I’ve seen, most people say that they are Haram because of the ingredients.

Many Doritos flavors use cheddar cheese or whey protein, and those ingredients are considered haram. This includes Nacho Cheese (red Doritos), Cool Ranch (blue Doritos), and Salsa Verde (green Doritos). When in doubt, always check for haram ingredients on the packaging to see if they contain cheese, whey proteins, or artificial flavors and colorings.
However, some Doritos don't contain any haram ingredients, so they're halal and okay to eat! The flavors that you can safely eat include: Spicy Sweet Chili (purple Doritos), Sweet & Tangy BBQ (black Doritos), and Tangy All Dressed (light purple Doritos).

Doritos is one of my favorite artificial foods out there. Sure, it would depend on the flavors, but lowkey it’s fire. Halala or whatever you call it. Next.
