Strixhaven's Colleges, Explained

Strixhaven is a school for mages in Magic: The Gathering (as well as Dungeons & Dragons, since there's a Strixhaven sourcebook for 5th edition). It's canonically located on the continent of Orrithia and the plane of Arcavios. The school was founded by five elder dragons and masters of magic, and each college was named after one of them. Thus, Strixhaven exists as an elite bastion of knowledge and magic for those with the ambition and passion to seek it out! Its colleges are:


📖 Lorehold
The college of historical studies, adventure, and discovery. Members of this college speak to spirits of the dead to unearth ancient truths and learn about the past.

  • Founded by: Velomachus Lorehold
  • Leaders: Plargg (Dean of Chaos) and Augusta Tullus (Dean of Order)


🎭 Prismari
The college of artistic and elemental studies. Mages with a passion for the arts (painting, drama, and so on) attend Prismari, using elemental magic as a form of self-expression.

  • Founded by: Galazeth Prismari
  • Leaders: Uvilda Mistcoiler (Dean of Perfection) and Nassari (Dean of Expression)


📐 Quandrix
The college of mathematics and sciences. Its members are often mathematicians who use math to unravel the secrets of magic, viewing math and magic as different aspects of the same thing.

  • Founded by: Tanazir Quandrix
  • Leaders: Kianne (Dean of Substance) and Imbraham (Dean of Theory)


✒️ Silverquill
The college of eloquence. They excel at verbal magic, channeling power through writing, poetry, speech, and even devastating insults; in Silverquill, wit is the key to success.

  • Founded by: Shadrix Silverquill
  • Leader: Embrose Lu (Dean of Shadow) and Shaile Talonrook (Dean of Radiance)


🌱 Witherbloom
The college of natural sciences. Nature-minded mages study here, using life and living things to empower their magic (and empower nature in turn)...although some students end up exploiting nature instead.

  • Founded by: Beledros Witherbloom
  • Leader: Valentin (Dean of the Vein) and Lisette (Dean of the Root)
