We spoke to dating coaches and relationship therapists to compile a list of romantic, unique, and creative Valentine’s Day date ideas, as well as activities you can do alone or with friends.

How can we celebrate Valentine’s Day?

  1. Treat you and your loved one to a romantic dinner at a local restaurant. Pick a couple of restaurants within your budget and call to confirm whether they have Valentine’s Day reservations available. The fancy food and atmosphere of the restaurant will be a special memory for you and your loved one!
    • Try to make the reservation 4 to 8 weeks in advance of Valentine’s Day. Otherwise, you may not be able to eat at that particular restaurant.
    • Continue to enjoy the evening by taking a stroll around town or a walk through the park. This will give both of you time to enjoy each other’s company.

Surprise them at work. If your loved one has to work on Valentine’s Day, make their day special by sending flowers, chocolates, a teddy bear, or their favorite lunch to their job. Include a loving note to let them know they’re on your mind. The gesture will make them feel special, especially if they catch their coworkers eyeing them jealously!

  3. 3
Plan a romantic getaway. Has your partner mentioned wanting to visit somewhere special? Make it happen! Whether it’s a day trip or a longer vacation, surprise them with a romantic getaway. Start planning in advance so you can pull everything off!
    • Most people plan 2 to 3 months ahead for popular spots (and to secure the best deals), but you can also book 4 to 8 weeks in advance.
  4. 4
Soak in a jacuzzi together. There’s something really sensual about snuggling up with your partner in a hot tub. Turn on those jets, put on your favorite bathing suit, and enjoy a nice, relaxing soak. To really set the mood, serve some champagne and a charcuterie board on a floating tray.
  5. 5
Go wine-tasting. Spend the day at a local vineyard, or set up a DIY wine-tasting experience by grabbing a few different bottles at home. Pair your sips with charcuterie and crudites to get the full experience. If you go out for wine-tasting, be sure to have a way to get home safely!
  6. Candlelight concerts are extremely popular these days, with events happening regularly in many major cities. Enjoy watching a live concert in an intimate setting, surrounded by candles. Many of these events are themed, so you may even find one where they play music by your partner’s favorite artist.
    • Check websites like Eventbrite for candlelit concerts in your area.
  7. 7
Have a fondue night. If you’re looking for something cheesy to do (literally), go out to a fondue restaurant or melt some cheese at home. Dip your favorite meats, breads, and veggies into the cheese. For a sweet alternative, dip your favorite fruits in melted chocolate! Make things even more romantic by feeding each other.[2]
  8. 8
Book a couple’s massage. Quinlan recommends getting a couple’s massage.[3] Check in with a nearby spa to see if they’re offering any special couples’ sessions for Valentine’s Day. The two of you will be able to relax and enjoy each other’s company.
  9. 9
Take a hot air balloon ride. Make this Valentine’s Day one to remember by booking a special event, like a hot air balloon ride. To make things even more romantic, book the ride early in the morning so you can watch the sunrise in each other’s arms.[4]
  10. 10
Stay the night in a fancy hotel. Whether you want to stay in your city or take a weekend getaway, booking a romantic suite can be a great way to spice things up. Take your mind off things by curling up in a comfortable bed, ordering room service, and pretending you’re the only two people in the world.[5]
  11. If you’ve been thinking about proposing to your partner, pull out all the stops by doing so on the most romantic day of the year. Whether your partner wants an over-the-top proposal or an intimate one at home, make sure it’s a day they’ll remember for the rest of their life.

Unique Valentine’s Day Ideas

  1. See if your city has a paint and sip studio, or simply pull up a YouTube video (hello, Bob Ross!). Gather some paint and paintbrushes and make your own works of art to hang up in your home. And, hey, even if you’re not an artist, you two can bond by laughing at how bad your painting is.[6]
  2. Relationship therapist Moshe Ratson, MFT, PCC, recommends that you “break up your routine and add some excitement” on Valentine’s Day.[7] If you two have a list of things you want to do together, make it happen on Valentine’s Day. This can be anything from traveling somewhere exciting to doing something extreme, like skydiving or bungee jumping. Your partner will be thoroughly impressed by your dedication.
  3. 3
Go to a concert. Quinlan suggests taking your significant other to a concert.[8] Before Valentine’s Day, browse your favorite ticket site to see which artists have upcoming shows in your area. If there’s a performer you know your partner loves, surprise them with tickets. Or, be spontaneous and see an act you’ve never heard of before.
  4. 4
Take a cooking class. Quinlan says taking a cooking class together is a unique Valentine’s Day date idea.[9] Enroll in a cooking class so the two of you can learn a new, tasty recipe. Not only will you get to spend time together, but you’ll learn a new skill and enjoy a delicious meal at the end.
  5. 5
Work out together. If you’re both gym buffs, Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to work out together. Go on a long run, take a hot yoga class, or go to your local spin studio. Get your endorphins flowing and have a great day spending time with the one you love.
  6. While you shouldn’t adopt a pet spontaneously, if you two have been thinking about adding a fur baby to your family, Valentine’s Day is a great time to do it. The holiday is all about love, after all, so why not welcome a pet into your hearts?
  7. 7
Attend a comedy show. Many people say they want a partner who can make them laugh, so odds are, the two of you have a similar sense of humor. Grab tickets to a comedy show and enjoy a night full of laughter. Follow it up by grabbing dinner at a nice restaurant.[10]
  8. 8
Go camping. If you and your partner are outdoorsy, get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Connect with each other and the great outdoors by pitching a tent and sleeping under the stars. If it’s too cold to actually go camping, “camp out” in your living room.[11]
  9. 9
Take a dance class. Looking for an excuse to hold your partner close? According to Quinlan, a dance class is a great Valentine’s Day date.[12] Choose any type of dance you’re interested in learning, but if you want something a little sexier, go for salsa or tango. If you and your partner are engaged, this is also a great way to practice for your wedding dance!
  10. 10
Go thrift shopping. See what strange objects you can find at your local thrift or antique store. For a fun date idea, take turns picking out outfits for each other—the funnier the better. While you’re having fun, you may even find some things you want or need for an affordable price![13]
  11. 11
Visit a theme park. If you want to get your adrenaline flowing, check out a local amusement park. You and your partner can dare each other to go on the tallest rollercoasters, eat yummy food, and take turns trying to win each other stuffed animals from the prize booths.[14]
  12. Ice skating is the perfect wintery date, according to Quinlan.[15] If your partner doesn’t know how to skate, you have an excuse to hold them close while you help them stay upright. When you’re done, warm up with some coffee or hot cocoa from your favorite cafe.

Free or Inexpensive Valentine’s Day Ideas

  1. Ratson suggests packing some sandwiches, wine, and cheese, and having a picnic.[16] If you live somewhere warm, pack a picnic basket and take your partner to your favorite park. Set up a blanket, some battery-operated candles, and play some romantic music. This will eliminate some of the date-night pressure and give you two a chance to spend some quality time together.
  2. 2
Watch the sunset together. Take a scenic drive to an ocean or mountain view, or simply watch from your backyard. There’s something naturally romantic about sunsets, so snuggle up with your significant other and enjoy the breathtaking view while spending quality time with each other.[17]
  3. 3
Explore your city. “Become a tourist in your own city,” says Ratson. “Discover your city and explore new and old beautiful places, such as local landmarks or museums.”[18] Check out restaurants, local businesses, and other hidden treasures. Your city may even host some Valentine’s Day events that you can attend together.
  4. 4
Do a puzzle together. If you don’t want to break the bank, see what puzzles you have lying around the house. You two can chit-chat while you sort through the pieces, and you’ll likely feel pleased with your teamwork once you finish the puzzle. If you want, glue the puzzle together and hang it up so you can admire your achievement.[19]
  5. 5
Play trivia. Often, local bars and restaurants host trivia nights for free or at an affordable price. Grab some drinks and appetizers and work together to beat the other teams. You may even win a prize at the end, which is a great way to end your Valentine’s Day.
  6. 6
Grab a bite to eat at a food truck. If there are any Valentine’s events going on in your city, there’s a good chance there will be some food trucks providing catering. If you’ve been wanting to try some new food, grab something from the truck, then take a stroll around the city while you two eat and chat.[20]
  7. Quinlan says going to a drive-in movie theater can be a fun Valentine’s date.[21] While they aren’t as common as they once were, do some research to see if there’s a drive-in in your area. They’re usually pretty affordable, and you can snuggle up with your partner while watching a double feature.
  8. 8
Visit a farmer’s market. Spread the love this Valentine’s Day by supporting local businesses. Take a stroll through the farmer’s market. You and your partner can enjoy spending time together while sampling foods and exploring the crafts your community offers.
  9. 9
Go stargazing. Find an area dark enough that you can see all the stars sparkling in the night sky. Depending on where you live, this could be your backyard, or you may have to travel a bit farther away from the city. Spread out a blanket and hold your partner close as you search for constellations.[22]
  10. 10
Volunteer together. Help others feel loved and supported by volunteering for a cause you care about, whether it’s at your local animal shelter or food bank. If you and your partner already have everything you could want, giving back is a great way to have a fulfilling Valentine’s Day.[23]
  11. 11
Go out for lunch. Valentine’s dinners can get pretty expensive, and usually, lunch is more affordable. Take your partner out to their favorite restaurant or cafe and spend the afternoon with them. You can then go home and watch a movie or play some games together without breaking the bank.
  12. 12
Go on a hike. Ratson says taking a hike together can be a great date.[24] Choose a trail that leads to a gorgeous view and enjoy spending the day with your partner by your side. Don’t forget to pack plenty of drinks and snacks to stay energized!
  13. If you live in a warm area, enjoy the beautiful flowers in a botanical garden. Many botanical gardens offer free or low-cost admission on holidays, so this is an affordable and completely romantic date idea.[25]

Spicy Valentine’s Day Ideas

  1. Prior to Valentine’s Day, book a boudoir photoshoot to take some sexy photos of yourself. Once you get your photos back, print them out and give them to your partner as a Valentine’s gift. This will also help set the mood if you want to get intimate later.
  2. 2
Send them some sexy texts. If you won’t see your significant other until later in the evening, build the anticipation by sending them sexy texts throughout the day. These can be things you can’t wait to do with them later, or some sensual photos of yourself. The tension will be through the roof when you finally get your hands on each other!
  3. 3
Role-play in the bedroom. If you’re looking to spice up your sex life, why not give it a shot on Valentine’s Day? Sit down together and discuss what kind of roleplay you’d be interested in trying out, as well as your general comfort levels and safe words. Then, throw on some sexy costumes, get into character, and have fun.
  4. 4
Give them a sensual massage. Relationship coach Sarah Schewitz, PsyD, says, “People whose love language is physical touch will enjoy affection, [like] hugs, kisses, [and] massages.”[27] If your partner’s been feeling stressed lately, offer to give them a massage. Take things slow and massage them from head to toe, paying close attention to areas you know will drive them wild. Use scented oils and light some candles to really set the mood.
  5. If you wear lingerie, buy a new set to surprise your partner on Valentine’s Day. Not only will your new look drive them wild, but you’ll probably feel sexy and confident knowing how great you look.
  6. 6
Give them a striptease. Sit your partner down and turn on some sexy music. Dance around and flirt with your partner, while slowly taking off your clothes, one piece at a time. Your partner will be thrilled to watch you, and your striptease will serve as great foreplay if you intend on being intimate later.
  7. 7
Play an erotic game. Make a typical game night sexy by playing “adult” versions of your favorite games. Ask each other suggestive truth or dare questions, or get a little more daring by playing a round of naked Twister. These games will add a sense of spontaneity and sensuality to your relationship.
  8. 8
Book an intimacy retreat. Take the opportunity to reconnect with your partner and share your deepest desires. An intimacy retreat can help you both learn to communicate your wants and needs and feel safe exploring new things together.
  9. 9
Sample some aphrodisiac foods. Some studies suggest certain foods can increase sexual desire. If you and your partner want to get in the mood, indulge in foods like chocolate, strawberries, oysters, pomegranates, or even hot peppers.[28] Even if you don’t feel any different afterwards, you’ll at least enjoy a tasty snack together!
  10. Fill the tub with bubbles and rose petals, and light some candles. Cozy up with each other in the tub and enjoy a night of relaxation. Turn on some romantic music to really set the mood.[29]

Creative Valentine’s Day Ideas

  1. Ratson suggests hiding secret love notes for your loved one to find.[30] Write little messages on colored cardstock, listing reasons why you love your significant other or recalling memories you shared together. Then, place the notes around your home where your significant other can easily find them. Your loved one will not only enjoy reading the notes but will be surprised each time they find one.
    • Hide the notes in creative spots, like on your loved one’s favorite coffee mug, in their jacket pocket, or on the television remote. Just make sure to pick spots or items that your loved one frequently uses; otherwise, your message may go unfound.
    • Alternatively, place the notes all in one spot, like on your loved one’s bathroom mirror. Write the messages on pink sticky notes and arrange them in the shape of a heart on the mirror.
  2. Skip buying a standard card at the store, and opt for a personalized one instead. Use a piece of cardstock to create a sturdy base for the card. Then, decorate it with humorous or poetic words and images to let your significant other know you love them.
    • “Words are a powerful way to illustrate love, gratitude, and appreciation,” Ratson explains. “Describe on paper how exactly you feel about them—saying what you love and appreciate about them can be very meaningful and personal.”[31]
  3. Fill a dozen or more red, pink, or white balloons with helium. Write some romantic notes on simple cardstock with a pen or marker. Use a hole punch to create a hole in the note, then attach it to the knot of the balloon with a piece of string or ribbon. Then leave the bundle of balloons in a place where your significant other can see it.
    • For example, include reasons why you love your significant other on the notes, or recall a series of special moments you shared to create a timeline of your relationship. Consider including some cute photos of the two of you as well.
    • If you have a low ceiling, allow the balloons to float to the ceiling and scatter them around the room. The different colored balloons will help decorate the room for the special occasion.
    • Alternatively, inflate the balloons normally and scatter them around the floor of your bedroom or living room. Slip a special note into each balloon before tying them off, and have your significant other pop the balloons to find the message.
  4. Create a small booklet from colored paper or cardstock, and decorate each page with doodles or stickers to make each coupon unique. Fill the coupon book with favor tokens that will make your loved one laugh and feel special. Ratson adds, “Write ‘redeemable at any time, no expiration date’ on them for a cute touch.”[32] Here are some examples of what you could include:
    • Treat your loved one to a day of pampering by writing, “Good for a back massage and a bubble bath.” Then, draw bubbles or a pair of hands around the coupon.
    • Let your loved one choose the film for a movie night by writing, “Pick a movie, and I will make the popcorn.” Design the coupon to resemble a movie ticket, a popcorn bucket, or a television.
    • Design a coupon to look like a chef’s hat and write something like, “Good for a home-cooked meal of your choice.”
  5. If you have TikTok, you may have seen videos where couples play rounds of rock-paper-scissors to decide what they eat. Get in on the fun this Valentine’s Day! Play a round for drinks, appetizers, entrees, and dessert. The winner chooses the restaurant for that round, and both players have to choose something from that restaurant to eat or drink.
  6. 6
Make a couple’s bingo card. The romance doesn’t stop once Valentine’s Day is over, so sit down with your partner and think of other romantic dates you can do throughout the year. Write each of these ideas in a space on a blank bingo card, and mark them off as you go. Try to complete them all by next Valentine’s Day!
  7. 7
Plan a romantic scavenger hunt. Come up with personalized clues that lead to meaningful spots or little surprises. Wait for your partner at the final spot and finish the game with a bigger surprise, like a romantic dinner. Your partner will appreciate the interactive aspect of the activity.[33]
  8. 8
Check out an art gallery. If you and your partner have an artistic side, research some local art galleries that are open to the public, and schedule a self-guided tour to check out some local artists. You may even find a piece you want to buy!
  9. If you have a way with words, write your own poems dedicated to your partner. If you’re not much of a poet, choose a few of your favorite romantic poets written by someone else. Spend the night exchanging lines with your partner to express your feelings.

At-Home Valentine’s Day Ideas

  1. Ratson says that having breakfast in bed is a great way to add romance to your life.[34] Cook an assortment of your loved one’s favorite breakfast foods, like bacon, pancakes, waffles, or scrambled eggs. Serve the meal on a tray with a glass of juice or coffee, and consider presenting it with a vase of their favorite flowers. Your loved one will appreciate the thoughtfulness.
    • Consider filling a plastic bag or squeeze bottle with pancake batter and drawing the pancakes into a heart shape in the hot skillet.
    • Do not forget to make a tray or food for yourself. Snuggle back in bed with your loved one, and enjoy the meal together. This is a great way for the two of you to chat and hang out.
  2. “Plan a movie night at home,” suggests Ratson. “Have take-away food and maybe some popcorn and candy for a classic movie date.”[35] Grab some cozy blankets and enjoy a relaxing evening with your significant other. To really set the mood, choose a romantic movie or TV show, like When Harry Met Sally or Bridgerton.
    • If you and your significant other both have busy schedules on Valentine’s Day, this is a great way for the two of you to relax, chat, and share some laughs.
    • To make a simple movie night more romantic, purchase some Valentine’s Day sweets, like decorated chocolates or chocolate-covered strawberries.
  3. Ratson says, “It can be quite pleasant” to cook with your loved one, especially if you’re listening to music or drinking a glass of wine while you work.[36] Select foods that you both will enjoy, but be realistic about your cooking skills and what you can make. The meal doesn’t have to be elaborate to be special or romantic. Dress up the dining area with a red tablecloth, candles, and fresh flowers to create a more intimate setting.
    • Consider making a simple spaghetti with homemade meatballs, or dress up a simple oven-roasted chicken by stuffing it with sun-dried tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella cheese.
    • Make cooking the dinner part of the date and have your significant other help you prepare the meal. Not only will this speed up the cooking process, but it will also give you time to bond and chat.
  4. 4
Do a blindfolded pizza taste test. Order a pizza from several different pizzerias. Snuggle up on the couch and take turns eating the pizza blindfolded. See if you can guess which pizza came from which restaurant for a fun, laidback date idea.
  5. If you have a sweet tooth, this is a great way to bond with your partner and get some tasty desserts. Choose a dessert that you and your partner will both have to make. Then, taste both of them to see whose is better.[37]
  6. 6
Have a craft night. Visit your local hobby store and see what fun crafts or activities you can find. You may want to try your hand at knitting, embroidery, painting, or even candle-making. Just choose something both of you will enjoy doing. Even if you aren’t very good, you’ll still have fun spending time together.[38]
  7. 7
Host a two-person book club. A few weeks before Valentine’s Day, choose a romantic book for the two of you to read. Once the holiday rolls around, discuss the book while snacking on themed treats. Who knows—something you read in the book may even spark inspiration for your own relationship!
  8. 8
Have a backyard movie night. Make your movie night even more special by setting up a projector in the backyard. Spread out some blankets, make some hot cocoa, and snuggle up to enjoy a romantic film screening from the comfort of your home.
  9. 9
Snuggle in front of the fire. Build a fire in your backyard (if it’s legal to do so in your area) or start up your fireplace. Grab some warm drinks, supplies to make s’mores, and cuddle up on a cold Valentine’s Day night.
  10. Make your partner feel like a kid again by constructing a fort out of pillows, blankets, and furniture. Turn on some fairy lights or battery-operated candles, and spend the night talking, laughing, and swapping stories like you’re at a sleepover.[39]

Valentine’s Day Ideas for New Couples

  1. Purchase a bouquet of your loved one’s favorite flowers, or choose classic red roses to mark the holiday. Pair the flowers with a box of chocolates or other sweets. Then, either give the gift to your loved one in person or surprise them by having it delivered to them at home or work.[Image:Celebrate Valentine's Day Step 10.jpg|center]]
    • This gift is perfect if you and your significant other have just started dating, and you are unsure what gift to give.
    • If you don’t mind spending more money, pair the flowers and chocolate with a special gift to mark the occasion. This could be a nice piece of jewelry, like a watch or necklace, or something more personal, like the latest book or video game your significant other has been eyeing.
  2. 2
Make them a Valentine’s Day playlist. “Organize a list of songs that create certain pleasant memories,” says Ratson.[40] Include all of your partner’s favorite love songs. If you can’t be together on the holiday, they can listen to the songs and know you’re thinking of them. If you’re spending the day together, slow dance to the songs and enjoy holding your partner close.
  3. 3
Make a cheesy Instagram post. Sometimes, you just want to share your love with the world. Find some of your favorite pictures of you and your significant other, and post them to Instagram or your preferred social media site. Dedicate the caption to your partner, and let them know how much they mean to you.
  4. 4
Go out for ice cream. If you want to keep things simple, you can’t go wrong with an ice cream date. Visit a local ice cream shop and taste-test all the flavors. If you prefer to stay at home, buy a few pints and toppings from the store and make your own sundaes.
  5. 5
Go bowling. Bowling is a fun, low-pressure date. It gives you something fun to do while spending time with your significant other. Plus, you can easily turn it into a double- or triple-date by inviting some of your friends.[41]
  6. If you two haven’t been together very long, a game of Truth or Dare is a fun way to get to know each other better. Dare them to do romantic things, like giving you a kiss or a massage, and ask them questions about what they want in a relationship.
  7. 7
Sip some coffee and go for a stroll. Take your partner to their favorite cafe and buy each of you a warm drink and a pastry. Then, take a walk around your favorite neighborhood or park. This simple, sweet date is a great way to enjoy each other’s company.
  8. 8
Make vision boards together. Prove that you’re serious about the relationship by discussing your future together. Turn the discussion into a fun activity by making vision boards. Glue pictures onto a posterboard that reflect your goals for the upcoming year.
  9. 9
Play hooky together. Take the day off work so you can enjoy spending more time together. You’ll likely get a rush of adrenaline from doing something you’re not “supposed” to do, and you’ll have the whole day to enjoy. Plus, there will likely be smaller crowds if you plan your date during the daytime rather than at night.[42]
  10. 10
Go to an arcade. Quinlan suggests taking your partner to an arcade, like Dave and Buster’s, for Valentine’s Day.[43] Have some fun with your partner by challenging them to play some of your favorite arcade games. See who can win the most tickets, then choose prizes for each other when you’re done playing. This lighthearted date will take some of the pressure off the holiday.
  11. If the weather’s nice, go on a bike ride together and admire the scenery. When you get tired, take a break and stop at a cafe or restaurant for a quick bite. If you’re newly dating and still getting to know each other, this is a low-pressure idea that allows you to do something you both enjoy.

Valentine’s Day Ideas for Long-Term Couples

PDF download Download Article
  1. If you two have been together for a while, take a trip down memory lane with this fun idea. Simply do whatever you did for your first date. For example, if you met for dinner and drinks, go back to that restaurant. If you went to the zoo, spend the day looking at all the animals.[45]
  2. 2
Make a scrapbook. You and your partner have probably had a lot of memorable dates over the years. Grab a scrapbook and fill it with your favorite photos and mementos, like ticket stubs, receipts, maps, or anything else that reminds you of a certain date. This way, you can always look back fondly on all of your memories together.[46]
  3. 3
Have a deep conversation. Ratson says Valentine’s Day “can be a great day to reconnect on things you haven’t discussed, especially in regard to your intimacy. You can talk about your dreams for the future, memories from the early days of your relationship, [or your] shared vision or philosophy of life.”[47]
  4. 4
Create a memory jar. Grab an empty mason jar and some strips of paper. Write down your favorite shared memories, inside jokes, and things you love about each other. Consider adding dreams for the future and notes of encouragement, as well. Put everything in the jar, and keep the jar somewhere special. Pull out a memory every time you want to relive the magic.
  5. This gift works better if you fill the journal out over the course of months or years. Whenever you and your partner do something special, write the memory down. Write about your adventures, milestones, inside jokes, and things that make you fall in love with your partner. Once the journal is complete, gift it to them so they can see how much they mean to you.
  6. 6
Go on a romantic dinner cruise. The occasional grand gesture helps keep the romance alive in a long-term relationship. If you live near the water, book a romantic boat ride. The two of you can enjoy a gourmet dinner while you admire the city lights reflecting on the water.[49]
  7. 7
Have a romantic staycation. Sometimes, the best way to connect is by staying at home. Take a few days off work, put your phones away, and focus on being present in your relationship. If you have kids, see if they can stay with a family member for a few days so you have no other responsibilities but your partner.[50]
  8. 8
Throw a dance party for two. Move the furniture out of the way and turn on your favorite songs. Grab your partner and spin them around the makeshift dance floor. Holding them close will remind you how much these little romantic gestures truly mean.[51]
  9. You and your partner are probably tired of cooking every night, so why not let a professional handle it? Hire a private chef to have a fine-dining experience from the comfort of your own home. Sit back, relax, and enjoy some incredible food.

  1. Ask each of your friends to bring a prepared dish; consider choosing a theme, if you want! Arrange the food on a long table or counter, and then enjoy an evening filled with warm foods and great friends.[52]
    • Simplify the evening further by ordering take-out food from a favorite restaurant. This is a great alternative for last-minute get-togethers.
  2. Give your favorite people an excuse to mingle during the holiday. Decorate your home with red, pink, and white balloons, streamers, and cutout hearts. Line a table with an assortment of sweets and finger foods, and create a fun ambiance with some bouncy music.[53]
    • If any of your guests aren’t a big fan of Valentine’s Day, consider choosing a different theme, like an “Anti-Valentine’s Day” party or any random theme everyone will enjoy.
  3. Ask each friend to bring a favorite board game, card game, or snack. Then, spend the evening chatting with your friends and playing a variety of games.[54]
  4. It’s easy to get swept up in the hustle of life and forget to take care of yourself, so take this holiday to pamper yourself. Schedule an appointment at a local spa, or have a relaxing spa day at home by taking a bubble bath and lighting some scented candles. Grab some of your favorite face masks and get ready to treat yourself![55]
  5. When you look good, you feel good! There’s no need to hide in your pajamas on Valentine’s Day if you don’t want to. Throw on a pressed button-up shirt or your favorite dress and take a stroll around town. The fancy clothes will give you a round of confidence that will carry you through the rest of the day.
    • Of course, you don’t have to dress up if you don’t want to. If you’d feel better having a cozy day at home in your PJs, go for it!
  6. Being single on Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean that you can’t partake in the festivities! Purchase your favorite chocolate or other sweets, and enjoy shamelessly eating them throughout the holiday.
    • Pair your sweets with your favorite form of entertainment. Grab a good book or movie and spend the evening relaxing in your pajamas.
  7. 7
Buy yourself a nice gift. Valentine’s Day is about all kinds of love, including self-love! You don’t have to wait for a partner to buy you something. Whether you’ve been eyeing a new necklace or ring or you’ve been wanting a new outfit, Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to treat yourself.[56]
  8. 8
Show your pet some love. Sometimes, the one you love the most isn’t a person at all—it’s a furry friend! If you’re a homebody, enjoy spending the day at home, cuddled up with your pet. If you want to treat them, consider getting them a pup cup from your favorite drive-thru.
  9. 9
Take yourself on a solo date. You don’t have to stay cooped up inside just because you’re single. Spend the holiday doing something you enjoy, whether that’s going on a solo movie date, taking a yoga class, or spending the day at your favorite bookstore. Celebrate the things that make you love your life.
  10. 10
Send love letters to your friends. Platonic love is just as important as romantic love, so remind your friends just how much they mean to you. Write each of them a letter telling them what you admire about them and why you love having them in your life. Or, make them laugh by sending them a cheesy pick-up line. This will brighten up their day, especially if they’re also single![57]
  11. One of the perks of being single is that you don’t have to deal with anyone complaining about your singing! Have a fun karaoke night with some friends, or simply have a blast singing along at home. Pick out your favorite romantic ballads, or have fun with some break-up anthems.[58]

If you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day with a significant other, take time to plan some activities ahead of time. You might go out and have a fun date, get dinner together at a nice restaurant, or just spend the day snuggling at home and watching your favorite movies. In addition to making plans together, look for ways to surprise them. For instance, you might serve your sweetheart breakfast in bed, leave love notes around for them to find, or give them a special gift. If you’re single, consider going out with friends or having some of your favorite people over for a movie or game night. You can also use the day as an excuse to enjoy some alone time.
