How to Jestermaxx and Take Yourself Less Seriously
Meme, brainrot, and slang expert Tobi Nwodo explains, "Jestermaxxing is when a guy tries too hard by making too many attempts to be funny to impress a girl. It's seen as super cringe online because everyone knows why the guy is trying to be funny all of a sudden. It's a combination of the word 'jester' (as in clown) and 'maxxing' (from looksmaxxing)."[1] Jestermaxxing can also be charming, though! People love someone who doesn't take themself too seriously, and that's why we talked to lifestyle experts and dating pros for tips on how to let loose, get silly, and have fun with it:
- Life coach Rachel Kove says that one quick exercise to help you not feel so serious about yourself is to "put a timer on your phone and smile for one minute. And the other thing you can do... is put a timer on for a minute and actually just start belly laughing out loud. It will feel really silly and uncomfortable but that's normal and just start laughing. The fake laughter will turn into real laughter."[2]
- Relationship coach Michelle Jacoby explains how jestermaxxing can be a passive state of mind: "Lighthearted, to me, usually means fun and playful. So, having fun together and not worrying about the outcome all the time... I think, being present and engaged in the present moment is a way to really enjoy oneself and perhaps keep things lighter, just being playful."[3]
- Certified life coach and motivational speaker Nora Oliver says that "Whimsy can be added to life by intentionally bringing in small moments of play, curiosity, and lightness without waiting for life to feel 'easy' first."[4]
- Licensed clinical psychologist Carolyn Rubenstein, PhD, explains why funny people are so attractive: "Laughter gives you that endorphin rush... it gives you that sense of momentary relief from all of that, physical and mental things."[5]
