If you have an Outlook email account (an email address that ends with “@outlook.com”), you can add it to your iPhone so you can read your emails on the go. Setting up an Outlook email on an iPhone is easy, and there are a couple of ways to do it. In this wikiHow article, we’ll show you how to add an Outlook account using your iPhone’s built-in Mail app or the Outlook app.
How to Add Outlook Email to Your iPhone
- To access Outlook through the iOS Mail app, go to Settings > Mail > Mail Accounts and enter your Outlook address and password.
- To use the Outlook app, install and launch the app, then tap Add Account. Enter your email address (or select it from the list of found accounts) and sign in.
Steps
-
Open Settings. If you like using the Mail app built into your iPhone, you can add your Outlook email account in your iPhone's Settings. Tap the app with a gear icon. If you don't see it on your Home screen, check the utilities folder in your App Library.[1]
-
Tap Apps. It’s at the bottom of the Settings menu.
- Skip this step if you’re using iOS 17 or earlier. You’ll find Mail in the main Settings menu.

Tap Mail. It’s in the M section of the Apps menu.[2]
-
Tap Mail Accounts. This option is at the top of the menu. You should see the number of email accounts you currently have linked to Mail.
-
Tap Add Account. It's below the list of your other email accounts.[3]
-
Enter your Outlook email address. Tap Next in the top right corner when you’re done.
- If you prefer, you can tap the small choose from a list link under the address field, then select Outlook.com from the list of options.
- If you have a business, organizational, or school account, you may need to tap Microsoft Exchange instead. Many school or business accounts have specific parameters, like permissions, set up, so you might need to contact your admin or IT department for more information.[4]
- If you prefer, you can tap the small choose from a list link under the address field, then select Outlook.com from the list of options.
-
Follow the prompts to verify your email. On the next screen, you may be prompted to enter a backup email address linked to your Outlook account so you can receive a verification code. Once you receive the code, enter it and tap Sign in. If you’re having trouble receiving the code, tap Use your password instead. Enter the password associated with your Outlook account and select Sign in.
- Depending on your Outlook settings, you might simply be prompted to enter your password.
-
Save the changes. It will take only a few seconds to sync your Outlook email with your iPhone. Once the sync is complete, you may be prompted to tap Save to complete the process. Your Outlook email is now set up with your iPhone.
-
Open the Mail app. Once you’re back on the home screen, tap the Mail app (white envelope icon) to open your iPhone’s Mail app. You should now be able to see all the email messages that are currently saved on your Outlook account.[5]
- If you’re in an inbox for a different account (e.g., Gmail), tap < in the top left corner to see your list of Mailboxes. You should see Outlook in the list. You can also tap All Inboxes at the top of the menu to see a combined inbox with emails from all your linked accounts.
-
Download and open Outlook for iOS. Outlook's official app is a great way to send and receive mail from your Outlook account on your iPhone. Open the App Store on your iPhone, tap Search, and search for “Microsoft Outlook” on the search bar. Tap Install to download and install the app. Launch the app from the App Store by tapping Open, or open it from your Home Screen or App Library.[6]
- If you prefer using the Mail app on your iPhone instead of installing Microsoft's app, you can add Outlook to your settings instead.
-
Tap Add Account. The first time you open Outlook, you’ll see the option to add an existing account or create a new one. If you already have an Outlook account, tap the blue Add Account button.[7]
- To create an Outlook account from scratch, tap the Create New Account button instead.
- If you’re already logged into an account but you want to add a new one, tap your user icon next to your Inbox and tap Settings > Accounts > Add Account > Email Account. Continue with the steps below.
-
Enter your email address or select a found account. The Outlook app may automatically detect your pre-existing account(s), in which case you’ll see them listed on the next page after you tap Add Account. Select any detected accounts you want to add, then tap Add Accounts at the bottom of the screen. To skip this option, tap Skip instead, then enter your email address.
-
Follow the prompts to log in. Depending on your account settings, you might be prompted to sign in with your password or a passkey (e.g., Face ID), or to enter a code sent to a backup email address. Follow the instructions to verify your account, then tap Next.
- You might be asked if you want to add another account. If not, select Maybe Later. If you do want to add another account, tap Add.
-
Accept any prompts that appear. You may need to give the app permissions to send you notifications or access storage before you can continue. Once you’ve made your selections, you’ll be taken to your Outlook inbox.
