While Where Winds Meet offers many settings you can adjust to tweak your game exactly how you want, it lacks one key setting: changing your input microphone. Thankfully, you can easily do this by changing the default microphone on your device. In this article, we'll teach you how to switch your mic in Where Winds Meet, as well as how to leave or disable voice chat entirely. Read on to learn how.

Switching Mics in Where Winds Meet

To switch your mic input, you'll need to change your device's default mic.

  • On PC, open Game Bar and click Manage devices under "Audio".
  • On PS5, tap the PlayStation button, then tap the mic icon in the control center.
  • On iOS, go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Input. Then, choose a mic.
  • On Android, you can't switch your mic input; your device will switch to the most recently-connected mic automatically.

Join a voice room. In Where Winds Meet, voice rooms can be found in the Windtail Lounge tab of the chat menu. Two common places to join the Windtail Lounge are in your guild hall or on a Mirage Boat.
    • There is no setting within Where Winds Meet to change your microphone input, but if you switch the default microphone of your device, that will also affect WWM.
  2. 2
Open your microphone input settings. How you do this depends on your device:
    • Windows PC: Press Win+G to open the Game Bar, then click Manage devices under the "Audio" header.
    • PlayStation 5: Press the PlayStation button on your controller, then select the microphone icon in the control center.
    • iPhone: Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Input.
    • Android: There's no way to change your microphone input on an Android, and your device will automatically switch to whatever microphone was plugged in last.[1]

Choose a different microphone. If your device has more than one microphone plugged in, you can choose between them (such as a built-in microphone and an external microphone that you've plugged in).
    • In the Windows Game Bar, you'll want to change the microphone under the "Input" header.
    • On a Windows PC, you can also change your microphone in Where Winds Meet through the sound settings menu. Go to Settings > System > Sound, then choose a different device under the "Input" header.

Turning Off Voice Chat

Turning off your microphone in the Windtail LoungeWhen you're in a Windtail Lounge voice room, you can turn off your microphone but stay in the voice chat. To do this, open the chat box and click Windtail Lounge in the sidebar. Next to the text box, you'll see a green button labeled "Mic On." If you click this button, it will say "Mic Off."
  2. 2
Leaving the Windtail LoungeWhen you enter your guild hall or board a Mirage Boat, you'll automatically be added to a Windtail Lounge room. If you want to leave the Windtail Lounge, you can do so by opening the chat window, clicking Windtail Lounge in the sidebar, then clicking the button that has a rectangle with a right-facing arrow. This will remove you from the voice chat.
  3. 3
In the audio settingsWhile you can't specifically turn off voice chat in the audio settings, you can change your settings so you avoid accidentally talking in or hearing the voice chat. To do this, open the menu, click the cogwheel to open settings, then click Audio in the top bar. You'll want to change these settings:
    • Voice Chat Volume: Lower this to 0.
    • Microphone Volume: Lower this to 0.
    • Microphone Mode: Set this to "Push-to-Talk Microphone."
    • Push-to-Talk/Quick Mic Toggle: Set this to a button you never press. F11 is a good choice.

Tips

  • In the settings menu, under Other, there's an option to not automatically join the Windtail Lounge when entering your guild hall or the Mirage Boat, but in our experience, these options don't seem to work.
