Find out if this TikTok meal trend is healthy or just a fad

Cottage cheese and mustard may sound like an odd combination, but it's all the rage among TikTok weight loss influencers right now. This unique dip is the brainchild of Tiffany Magee, a content creator whose plates of chicken sausage, raw fruits and vegetables, and the infamous cottage cheese and mustard combo inspired the Tiffany plate trend. Come with us to learn more about what this meal is, how to make it, why it's popular, and whether it's really healthy for you.

What is the Tiffany plate TikTok trend?

The Tiffany plate trend on TikTok refers to a low-calorie meal popularized by weight loss influencer Tiffany Magee. The meal consists of a base of chicken sausage links, a dip made of cottage cheese and mustard, pickled hearts of palm, and carrots. On top of that, Magee adds lots of other raw fruits and veggies.

Section 1 of 5:

What is a Tiffany plate?

  1. It's a plate of mostly raw vegetables and fruits, with chicken sausage as the main protein and a dip made from combining cottage cheese and mustard. Content creator and weight loss influencer Tiffany Magee (@tiffanyymagee on TikTok) invented the meal after she was diagnosed with Lyme disease, a serious illness caused by a tick bite.[1] She eats whole foods to help reduce the vertigo that the disease causes.
    • Magee began uploading TikToks of herself eating Tiffany plates in 2023. Her content routinely generates millions of views and likes. For example, this video posted on July 7, 2023, has over 13.9 million views!
    • She loves the Tiffany plate because it's healthy and easy to make. In an Instagram video posted on September 30, 2024, Magee explains that the meal helps her take in proteins, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. She's also remarked on how it helps her not have to think about what she's going to eat for lunch every day.
    • She also claims eating it daily helped her lose 80 pounds. For that reason, she and other TikTok creators who recreate her dish often promote the Tiffany plate as a weight loss hack. They even include the #weightloss hashtag in their video captions.[2]

How to Make a Tiffany Plate

  1. The Tiffany plate has a lot of food on it, as well as a container of cottage cheese and mustard dip. To hold that many items, you'll need a large dish!
    • If you don't have any large plates, platters, or cutting boards on hand, just split the plate up between multiple smaller dishes or containers. You can also use paper plates for easy clean-up afterward.
  2. These 4 ingredients are the signature items that form the foundation of almost every Tiffany plate. Add the chicken sausage to the plate cold or fry it in a skillet until its internal temperature is 160 °F (71 °C).[3] Next, fill a small bowl or ramekin with cottage cheese, then squeeze mustard on top (the ratios are up to your personal preference). Finally, open a jar of pickled hearts of palm and put 2-3 (or however many you want to eat) on your plate, along with 1-2 whole, peeled carrots.
  3. Magee typically chooses asparagus, celery, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, okra, or radishes. Then, she dips them in the cottage cheese and mustard mixture before eating them. She's also been known to eat apples, dragonfruit, strawberries, white nectarines, apriums, and pink pineapples. Choose the fruits and veggies you prefer and add a few slices of each to your plate.

Why is the Tiffany plate popular on TikTok?

  1. There's no cooking required (unless you want to cook the chicken sausage) and very little prep needed. Aside from the chicken sausage, there's also little to no added sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, gluten, or artificial ingredients in any of the food. Plus, everything is low-calorie, so if you're trying to lose weight, you may be able to feel full without going past your daily caloric intake needs.
    • Some people are also fascinated by the cottage cheese and mustard dip. Those who've tried it are mixed on whether it tastes delicious, okay, or just nasty. In this viral video, TikToker @farnumgrindtime tasted it and rated it a 2 out of 5, whereas his partner rated it a 0 out of 5 and spit it out.
Section 4 of 5:

Is the Tiffany plate healthy?

  1. For example, mustard, cottage cheese, sausage, and pickled vegetables all have a high amount of salt. Therefore, you may not want to eat them all together in a single meal if your goal is to reduce your sodium intake. In addition, the plate doesn't have much protein, which is an essential nutrient for both women and men. However, as long as you get more protein from the rest of your meals, it's a decent option that many people find satiating without making them feel too full or bloated.[4]
    • Some also worry that people might get sick by eating the Tiffany plate to lose weight. Magee says that eating the Tiffany plate helped her lose 80 pounds. However, while eating this particular meal may have helped Magee, that doesn't mean it helps everyone or provides enough nutrition for every individual.
    • Another concern is that it may make digestion more difficult. While Magee says eating the Tiffany plate doesn't make her feel bloated or heavy, some dietitians caution that the high fiber, raw vegetables she eats can be hard to digest for many people.[5]
