Google Earth and Street View are honestly incredible human achievements. From the comfort of your own home, you can digitally visit any corner of the planet! But in the process of documenting all of that, Google has also stumbled on some genuinely hysterical moments. Here, we’ll take a look at some of the funniest, strangest, and weirdest stuff Google has found. Enjoy!

The Ladder Mummy

You have to go back to 2012 to see this one, but there is a fully dressed mummy on top of a ladder getting water poured all over him. It even looks like there’s a little kid carrying more water over in the background. We have legit zero idea what’s going on here.

These Boots Were Made For Walking

Just check out those fancy disembodied legs strutting their stuff through the town square. You can almost hear the “Making my way downtown, walking fast, faces pass…” music playing in the background.

A Disaster in Scotland

It looks like some unfortunate luck has been bestowed upon the driver of the silver car currently stuck in the ditch. There’s even a little triangle of sadness going on with the driver, a biker, and what looks like the Google Street View employee. Some say the car is still stuck in that ditch to this day.

The Penguin & The Time Traveler

Click “See more dates” in the top left and go back to December 2009. Check out that guy on the giant 1920s-style bicycle. There’s also a little sidecar with what appears to be a stuffed penguin riding in it. Now, we’re not ones to speculate, but it’s obvious this guy is a time traveler, right?
- Fun fact: Those ridiculous old bikes are called “penny-farthings.” It’s an appropriate name because the name is just as silly as the bike.
- This is also a cool snapshot of the Great Recession: This ocean-front view in Western Australia should be prime real estate. If you go back to the 2007 view, you can see all of the old homes up for sale. By 2009, half of the block is still abandoned. Then, in 2015, you see all of the major construction. By 2021, the block is full of what looks like multi-million dollar modernist homes.

The Guitar Farm

Actually, we don’t know if it’s a farm or not, but it looks like farmland surrounding this giant guitar. The guitar itself is made out of trees, which actually makes this more impressive, since someone has to go out and trim the trees to avoid losing the shape of the guitar. Apparently, pilots in the area love flying over it to show people.^{[1]

The Pink Guy Duel

Nothing to see here, folks! Just a couple of fellas wearing pink biohazard suits dueling it out in the middle of an empty field on an island in Norway. You know, super normal stuff. It’s like Squid Games but…without the drama or plot or Korean billionaires.

The Pigeon People

They’ve since been blurred out by Google, but the pigeon people are too iconic and hilarious to not include on our list. When they heard that Google Street View was coming to their neighborhood, a group of Japanese blog writers decided to don some ridiculous pigeon masks and menacingly stand around. They look like the world’s goofiest street gang.^{[2]

Lights Out in Sweden

In June 2011, Google captured a group of Swedish citizens dressed in colorful dresses and wearing lampshades on their heads. There’s even a polite gentleman holding the light switch for one of the shades up in the air so that nobody trips.

Dining in Iceland

Tap on “See more dates” and select “August 2013.” You’ll be treated to a 100% authentic Icelandic dining experience—an ice fisherman dummy wearing a onesie and eating on the side of the road.

The Snorklers

We do not know why there are a pair of spearfishermen fully kitted out in the streets of Norway chasing the Google Street View car. It’s kind of like something out of a really bad horror movie. Or, actually, a really good horror movie now that we think about it. Swedish street snorkelers armed with spears would be pretty scary. They’re on the July 2009 capture, by the way.

A Reindeer Poops

In July of 2010, a Google employee captured a reindeer pooping in the middle of the road in northern Norway. Oh, we’re sorry. Were you expecting something other than a reindeer pooping? This is just a reindeer pooping.

The Swamp Thing

Check out the April 2017 snapshot. You can see a beach-goer wearing what appears to be a suit made out of seaweed menacingly approaching the camera. It’s goofy on its own for sure, but we really get a kick out of how literally nobody in the area seems surprised or confused by what’s going on. In fact, everyone’s sort of just ignoring the guy. You can almost hear them thinking, “Oh him? Yeah, that’s Carl. He just does that.”

The Corn Maze

This is more “cool” than “funny,” but you can actually complete this entire corn maze in Canada using Google Street View. Give it a shot! See how long it takes you to find your way out of this elaborate maze.

The Lion

Someone put some serious effort in here. There’s a giant lion carved into the field of this English countryside. Believe it or not, this lion has been around since 1933!^{[3]

The Scarecrow Posse

Somewhere in rural Finland, someone has decided to erect a giant field full of scarecrows wearing silly shirts. It’s kind of spooky at first, but it’s funny if you picture some old couple driving through the woods, lost at night, and stumbling upon this field of scarecrows, thinking that a zombie apocalypse is happening.

Wrong Way

Imagine you’re being paid to drive and document active roadways, but after hours of driving a route, you end up blocked by a giant construction crew. This one is funny if you picture what happened from the driver’s perspective. Zoom out and take a look at the map from above. This poor Street View driver was driving down this empty Bosnian highway for forever only to get to the end and realize the highway wasn’t finished. Poor guy!

Inside the Car

The August 2024 recording of this street in England did not turn out well. Still, Google decided to upload it anyway. You get to see what the inside of a Street View car looks like! You’d think it’d just be a simple car with a camera strapped to the top, but there’s all kinds of crazy gear inside of this thing.

Your GPS Is Wrong

Zoom in on that yellow sign on this rural Oregon road. We find it funny how this sign is a combination of scary and hilarious. The “No thru traffic…hazardous road conditions ahead” part is obviously very spooky—what really could be so bad on that road to warrant the sign? Why does this road even exist if it’s so dangerous?—but the “YOUR GPS IS WRONG” bit at the top is just so silly.

The Hunter with No Torso

On a random walkway in Alaska, you can find an old man with no torso, backwards feet, and a gun. This poor hunter was just minding his own business, and then here comes the Google guy to turn him into a strange mutant man. He looks like he’d be right at home in a sci-fi movie about radiation fallout and nuclear monsters.

A 911 Operator’s Nightmare

In this quiet little pocket of Nova Scotia sits a subdivision. In that subdivision, you will find something unique. Take a second to see if you can spot it on your own. If you thought, “Boy, those are some weird street names,” you nailed it! This Street, That Street, and The Other Street sound like they’d really make emergency calls a pain to figure out…

This poor man in Zambia seems like he was trying to shake hands with the Google Street View guy, and all he got was evaporated from existence. You can almost hear him saying, “I don’t feel so good, Mr. Stark…”

A Grudge with FedEx

We think it’s safe to assume this guy missed a few packages because drivers couldn’t find their address. He has set out a sign to let FedEx know how he feels about this. To be fair to the driver, W 100 N is not exactly the most specific street name of all time…
