1Choose a name that resonates with you. Conley says, “Ask questions about [names] you like or enjoy to get that inspiration or 'spark' of a name that fits.”[5] He recommends starting with questions like:
- What would your name be if you could change it?
- What would you name your dream pet?
- What would your name be if you were a [species of fursona]?
- What’s a good name for a [fursona species]?
- What names sound good?
- What letter do you want it to start with?
- How many syllables would you like the name to be?[6]

2Consider your fursona's personality when you're choosing a name. Is your fursona fun and outgoing? Or are they more brooding and mysterious? Choose a name that fits their personality to really create a well-rounded character.
- Conley says, “Naming your fursona is a big part of your furry identity. A fursona is essentially you as an animal. It’s a representation of yourself, but you get to choose every detail. That’s very cool and fun, but if you aren’t used to having a say in part of yourself, choosing names, patterns, and colors can be difficult.”[7]
- When you’re choosing a name, Conley suggests considering whether your fursona is “more towards an anthropomorphic (anthro) type of character or a more animalistic (feral) type.”[8]
