All About Falling in Love, According to Experts

This quiz predicts how soon you'll fall in love based on your relationship history and preferences. But finding love can be tricky, and sometimes it's tough to know where to start! That's why we checked in with wikiHow's resident dating and relationship coaches for their expert advice on finding "The One," and making sure you're ready for them when they cross your path. Here's what they had to say:

Connect with people who share your interests. "Find hobbies and things that bring you joy, and if you meet someone doing something like that, you already have a shared interest, which is great," explains relationship coach Sarah Schewitz, PsyD.[1] If you're a big reader, join a book club, if you're artsy, try out a ceramics class, or if you're sporty, join a sports leagueβ€”the options are endless!

Brainstorm what you're looking for in a partner. Relationship coach Marlena Tillhon says it's a good idea to have a firm grasp of what you're interested in (and what you're not interested in) when it comes to your ideal partner. "Know your green flags, know what you're looking for, and create a relationship vision," she recommends.[2]

Think about the traits you value in a friend. "What I would recommend to anybody who's interested in dating and they're really interested in falling in love is take a look at some of your best friends and some of the people that you love being the most around and think about what it is about those people and connect with those feelings... because those feelings and those qualities and characteristics of all those relationships are probably what you're looking for in a serious relationship," explains relationship coach Luis Congdon.[4]

Be patient, and don't rush things. ""I don't think that you can make yourself fall in love," says relationship counselor Kelli Miller, LCSW, MSW. "I think it's a very natural and organic process...[so] be patient, and know that it will come when the time is right."[5]

While you wait for romance, focus on building a life you love. Tillhon recommends building a good life for yourself, so that you can maintain high standards and avoid settling for someone who isn't quite right for you. "Create a life that works for you, and then add to it," she says.[6]
