Are you trying to create a Teams meeting in Outlook, only to find that the Teams Meeting button is missing from your toolbar? There are several issues that can cause this problem, depending on what kind of account you have and which version of Teams and Outlook you’re using. In this article, we’ll explain how to get the Teams Meeting button back. We’ll also walk you through what to do if Teams meetings aren’t appearing in your Outlook calendar.

Missing Teams Meeting Button in Outlook

You can only create Teams meetings in Outlook if you have a Business Exchange account.
If you use Classic Outlook, you’ll need to ensure that the Teams add-in is enabled.
If someone else administers your account, ask them to check the permission settings so Teams and Outlook can work together.

Check your Office account type. The ability to sync between Teams and Outlook is limited for some types of Office subscriptions. You need an M365 Business Exchange account to be able to schedule a Teams meeting from Outlook.^{[1]

Check if the Teams add-in is enabled (Classic Outlook). In New Outlook, the Teams Meeting button is integrated into the app and you don’t need to install or enable an add-in. However, if you use Classic Outlook, you need an additional COM add-in to schedule meetings in Teams from the Outlook app. To enable the add-in, open Outlook and go to File > Options > Add-ins. Look for “Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office” in the list of Active Application Add-ins. If you don’t see it:^{[3]

- Check the Disabled Application Add-ins list. If you see the Teams add-in there, click Manage > COM Add-ins > Go. Click the check box next to “Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office.” Click OK to save all your selections, then restart Outlook and Teams.
- If you don’t see Teams in the list of disabled add-ins, you may need to try some of the solutions below.

Uninstall and reinstall the Teams add-in. If your Teams Meeting button disappeared in Classic Outlook after you installed New Teams, the Teams add-in may have failed to update. You can sometimes force the add-in to update by uninstalling and re-installing the add-in from your computer.^{[4]

- In Windows:
  - Open the Start menu and select Settings > Apps > Installed Apps. Search for the Teams Meeting Add-in. Click ••• and select Uninstall.
  - Close Outlook. Then, close Teams by right-clicking the icon in your System Tray and selecting Quit.
  - Restart New Teams. This should force the add-in to reinstall.
- On Mac, you have to uninstall New Teams and reinstall it. You can’t reinstall the add-in separately.
  - Drag Teams from your Applications folder to Trash and empty the trash. Reinstall Teams, restart Outlook, and try again.

Check your registry entries (Windows). Incorrect registry settings can create problems with the Teams meeting add-in. If you have Classic Outlook and you’re using Windows, you might be able to get the add-in to work by adjusting the following registry entries. Just make sure to back up the registry before you start.^{[5]

- Launch the Registry Editor and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\TeamsAddin.FastConnect. Make sure the value of the LoadBehavior entry is set to 3. If not, change it to 3 and restart Outlook.
- If you still don’t see the Teams Meeting button, there might be an issue with your policy settings. You’ll only be able to adjust these settings if you’re an administrator. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Security. Alternatively, if you use the Cloud Policy service, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Cloud\Office\16.0\Outlook\Security.
- Check the promptoomaddressinformationaccess entry. If it’s set to 0, you’ll need to adjust the Configure trusted add-ins policy setting. Make sure Automatically deny is disabled, or add Microsoft.Teams.AddinLoader.dll to the list of trusted add-ins.
  - For detailed instructions on how to access these settings, see this guide from Microsoft.
  - You’ll also need to use this tool to make sure you have the right hash value for the Teams add-in.

Uninstall and reinstall Teams and Outlook. There might be a problem with the installation of one or both apps. Try uninstalling and reinstalling both apps, and make sure you’re using the latest version of both Teams and Outlook.

If you’re not the administrator of your Teams and/or Outlook account, you might need to ask whoever is in charge of it to adjust some settings. For example, they can ensure that the right permissions are set to allow Teams and Outlook to work together, or even run a script to uninstall outdated add-ins that are causing problems.^{[6]

If Teams meetings aren’t showing up in your Outlook calendar, first check and see if Teams and Outlook are both active on your computer. Make sure you’re logged in with the same Microsoft account in both apps.
Outlook allows you to have multiple calendars, so you might be looking at the wrong one. In the calendar tab, look at the left-hand menu bar and make sure you have the correct email account selected (if you use multiple accounts in Outlook). Make sure you’re not using a secondary calendar such as “Holidays” or “Family.” You can also check the Filter menu at the top right side of the screen and make sure it’s set to All.

Clear the Teams cache. Clearing your cache can sometimes resolve syncing issues. The right way to do this depends on whether you have Windows or Mac (and which version of Teams and Outlook you have).^{[7]

- Clear the Teams cache in Windows:
  - Classic Teams:
    - Quit Teams. To exit it completely, right-click the Teams icon in the taskbar and select Quit.
    - Press Win + R. In the Run dialog, enter %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams and click OK.
    - Delete all the files and folders in the directory that opens, then relaunch Teams.
  - New Teams:
    - Quit Teams completely by right-clicking the Teams icon in the taskbar and selecting Quit.
    - Press Win + R, then type or paste %userprofile%\appdata\local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams into the Run dialog and click OK.
    - Delete all the files and folders inside the directory, then relaunch Teams.
- Clear the Teams cache in macOS:
  - Classic Teams:
    - Right-click (or Ctrl-click) the Teams icon in the Dock and select Quit.
    - Go to Finder > Applications > Utilities and open the Terminal app.
    - Enter the command rm -r ~/Library/Application\ Support/Microsoft/Teams and press Return.
    - Restart Teams.
  - New Teams:
    - Right-click (or Ctrl-click) the Teams icon in the Dock and select Quit.
    - Go to Finder > Applications > Utilities and open the Terminal app.
    - Enter the following commands and press Return after each one:
      
      rm -rf ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.teams
      
      rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.teams2
    - Restart Teams.

Clear the Outlook cache. Clearing the cache created by the Outlook app can also clear up problems with syncing Teams meetings.
- Clear the Outlook cache in Windows:
  - Quit Outlook.
  - Press Win + R. In the Run dialog, enter %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Outlook, and click OK.
  - Delete the .ost file as well as any .xml or .nst files.
  - Delete the contents of the RoamCache, HubAppFileCache, Offline Address Books, and 16 folders.
- Clear the Outlook cache in macOS:
  - In New Outlook, go to Tools > Accounts and select your account. Click Manage > Reset Account.
  - In Classic/Legacy Outlook, right-click or Ctrl-click the Exchange folder for which you want to clear the cache. Select Properties > General > Empty Cache.^{[8]

Make sure the Teams add-in is enabled (Classic Outlook). If you use Classic Outlook, you need to have the Teams add-in turned on in order to sync between Teams and Outlook. Here’s how to enable it:^{[9]

- Open Outlook and go to File > Options > Add-ins. Look for “Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office” in the list of Active Application Add-ins.
- If you don’t see it, check the Disabled Application Add-ins list. If you see the Teams add-in there, click Manage > COM Add-ins > Go.
- Click the check box next to “Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office.” Click OK to save all your selections, then restart Outlook and Teams.
- If that doesn’t work, you might need to uninstall and reinstall Teams to get the add-in to show up.

Run Outlook in Safe Mode to rule out an add-in conflict. Some third-party add-ins can interfere with Teams/Outlook syncing. To check, run Outlook in Safe Mode and see if the issue is resolved. Here’s how:
- In Windows:
  - Quit Outlook completely, then press Win + R. Enter outlook.exe /safe into the Run dialog and press Enter. This will launch Outlook in safe mode.
  - Try making a test meeting in Teams and see if it shows up in your Outlook calendar.
  - If your calendar syncs correctly now, try disabling any third-party add-ins. You can do this by going to File > Options > Add-ins > COM Add-ins in Outlook. Disable all your add-ins and re-enable them one by one until you pinpoint the culprit.
- On a Mac:
  - While some sources claim you can open Outlook in Safe Mode by holding Shift while you open the app, we were unable to verify this in testing. Instead, you can try disabling add-ins manually and see if it makes a difference.^{[10]

    - Select My add-ins or Admin managed.

- Select Share Calendar from Home tab at the top of the screen. If you’re on Mac, Ctrl-click the calendar you want to share and select Sharing Permissions… instead.
- Enter the name or email address of anyone you want to have access to your calendar.
- Click the drop-down next to each person’s name and select Can edit.

Update or reinstall both apps. There might be a problem with the installation of one or both apps, creating syncing issues. Try uninstalling and reinstalling both apps, and make sure you’re using the latest version of both Teams and Outlook.
