Fantasy Races in Baldur’s Gate 3

The story of Baldur’s Gate 3 happens within the fantasy universe of Dungeons and Dragons, the popular tabletop roleplaying game. As such, character creation in the game borrows many elements from DnD, including designations of fantasy races. Below are all the races one can choose to be in Baldur’s Gate 3 and what they are!

Elf: The elf is a creature of high fantasy, with ancient lifespans and an innate connection to nature. They have long, pointy ears and the look of a graceful creature who is in tune with the magic around them.
Tiefling: The tiefling is a devilish creature complete with horns and a pointed tail; a descendant of the Hellish overlords. However, though their ancestry marks an association with evil and taints their reputation, many choose the path of goodness.
Drow: Drow share a lineage with the elves, but have become touched with the influence of Lolth, an evil spider goddess. They have pointy ears but are marked by silver hair and grey skin. Drow are divided into those who worship Lolth and those who fight her.
Human: Humans in Baldur’s Gate 3 are like humans in real life. They are the most common race and have no magical ability inherent to them.
Githyanki: Githyanki are dragon riders who hunt their enslavers, the mind flayers. They have psychic abilities and are excellent users of the sword. Githyanki have pointed ears and humanoid faces with special markings around their eyes.
Dwarf: The dwarf is marked by their short stature and hardiness. Often excellent blacksmiths, miners, and fighters, their determination and persistence mean that they will pursue their goals until the end of time.
Half-Elf: Half-elves are, unsurprisingly, half-elf and half-human. Half-elves also include those who are half-drow. Their appearances combine traces of elvish ancestry, such as silver hair or pointed ears, with an overall human appearance.
Halfling: Halflings are like hobbits from Lord of the Rings. They are short, friendly, and creatures of comfort. Of course, there are variations among them as well. Some halflings are touched with a dwarfish sense of resilience and strength.
Gnome: Gnomes are small and live long lives. The forest gnome spends its days with nature, the rock gnomes are mechanics, and the deep gnome is marked by its experience with darkness and shadow.
Half-Orc: Half-orcs are half-orc and half-human. They inherit the fiery temper and warrior abilities of their orc parentage. Half-orcs have pointy ears, often green-tinted skin, and fangs that protrude out of their mouths.
Dragonborn: Dragonborns are said to be created by dragons, and their scaly reptilian appearances are certainly a reflection of this history. However, the dragons were also their jailers, and since emancipation, dragonborns bow their heads to no one.
