In Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, various choices you make throughout the game determine how strong Cloud’s relationship is with other characters. The “Bonds of Friendship” relationship meter shows how strong your relationship is with other characters. If you build the highest relationship status with Tifa, you’ll be treated to a date (and an intimate scene) at the Golden Saucer later on in the game. This wikiHow article teaches you the best ways to romance Tifa by boosting your relationship status with her.

Romancing Tifa in FFVII Rebirth

To romance Tifa, you’ll need to have the highest relationship level with her before Chapter 8 and Chapter 12. This can be done by picking favorable dialogue choices, completing Tifa’s odd jobs, picking a matching swimsuit with Tifa, fighting with Tifa and Red XIII, and using synergy skills and abilities with Cloud and Tifa.

   Boost your relationship level with Tifa. To be treated to the mini-date and the Golden Saucer date with Tifa in Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, Cloud needs to have the highest relationship level with Tifa during the mini-date in Chapter 8 and the Golden Saucer date in Chapter 12. If you do this successfully, your “Bonds of Friendship” meter with Tifa will turn blue, and she will have a blue emoji over her head. A dark blue emoji will get you a standard date. A light blue emoji will get you the intimate date. You can boost your relationship status using the following methods:

   • Pick the best dialogue choices in conversations with Tifa.
   • Complete all of Tifa’s odd jobs.
   • Complete the main story beats, such as performing well in the Junon Inauguration Parade, having Cloud and Tifa select matching swimsuits in Costa del Sol, and helping Red XIII and Tifa during the invasion of Costa del Sol.
   • Use synergy skills and abilities with Cloud and Tifa in combat.

   Avoid raising your relationship level with other characters too much. You don’t have to do everything with Tifa perfectly, but you do need to make sure you don’t raise another character’s relationship level too high. If you do, you risk taking another character on a date at the Golden Saucer. To do so, you may want to intentionally pick bad dialogue options with other characters and avoid completing certain odd jobs until later on.

   Be aware that romancing Tifa may affect your relationship with other characters. All your choices affect how other characters feel about Cloud. When you choose to romance Tifa, this may damage your relationship with other characters in the game.

   Replay missions if needed. If you’ve already completed much of the game, and you’ve missed some opportunities to romance Tifa, you can use the chapter select option to redo certain chapters.

Selecting Dialogue Options

   Understand how dialogue improves your relationship status. After various points throughout the game, you can talk to different characters. You will be given three dialogue options to respond with. None of the responses will lower your relationship status. However, there is a secret ranking system with the dialogue choices.

   • A 3-star response is the best option and will improve your relationship status with a character the most.
   • A 2-star response is the second best option and will improve your relationship status moderately.
   • A 1-star response is the worst response and will only slightly improve your relationship status.

   Chapter 2 “A New Journey Begins” dialogue. Talk to Tifa when standing in front of the Mako tank in the Village Center. She’ll ask, “This tank remind you of anything?”

   • Best response (3 stars): “The place I made that promise to you.”
   • Good response (2 stars): “The water tower in Nibelheim.”
   • Worst response (1 star): “Any other mako tank.”

   Chapter 4 “Dawn of a New Era” dialogue. Go to Tifa’s room on the second floor of the Inn. When you talk to her, she will ask, “Do you remember a guy named Emilio?”

   • Best response (3 stars): “Only person I remember from the village is you.”
   • Good response (2 stars): “The general store kid?”
   • Worst response (1 star): “No. Sorry.”

   Chapter 6 “Fool’s Paradise” dialogue. You’ll find Tifa sitting alone at the mini bar near the beach. Talk to her, and she’ll say, “It feels like it’s been ages since Seventh Heaven.”

   • Best response (3 stars): “Lot’s happened since then.”
   • Good response (2 stars): “Wanna go back?”
   • Worst response (1 star): “Hasn’t been that long.”

   Chapter 9 “The Planet Stirs” dialogue. Follow the trail from the flower altar until you see Tifa standing in front of the house. Talk to her, and she’ll ask, “What sorta thing would you go for?”

   • Worst response (1 star): “Soup’s good.”

   Chapter 10 “Watcher of the Vale” dialogue. When all party members are standing around the bonfire at the Cosmo Canyon Festival, talk to Tifa, and she’ll ask, “Did I sound as awkward as I felt?”

Completing Main Story Beats

   Perform well in the Junon Inauguration Parade. This takes place during Chapter 4 “Dawn of a New Era.” You’ll need to get a higher score than the opposing team in all three formations. You’ll need to score 101,000 points or higher to increase your relationship status with Tifa. This will also increase your relationship status with Aerith.

   Choose matching swimsuits with Cloud and Tifa. This happens in Costa del Sol in Chapter 6 “Fool’s Paradise.” You’ll need to pick matching swimsuits for Cloud and Tifa. The choices are as follows:

   • If you choose the Wild Surf swimsuit for Cloud, you’ll need to choose the Shining Spirit set for Tifa.
   • If you choose the Ocean Chocobo swimsuit for Cloud, you’ll need to choose the Majestic Glamour set for Tifa.

   Choose to fight with Tifa and Red XIII. This also happens in Chapter 6 “Fool’s Paradise.” Before the final boss fight, you’ll be asked to choose which team you want to fight with. You can choose between Tifa and Red XIII or Barret and Aerith. Choose Tifa and Red XIII to improve your relationship level with Tifa.

   Cast Tifa as the lead in the Loveless act. This only happens if you have the right relationship status with Tifa. This occurs in chapter 8, so be sure your relationship status is higher with Tifa than it is with Aerith. Otherwise, Aerith will be cast as the lead in Loveless and earn you more points in her favor instead.

   Succeed with the Skywheel Date. In Chapter 12, you will get access to the Skywheel Date with Tifa. However, there are two possible cutscenes: the standard cutscene and the intimate cutscene. You must have a 50% or higher affinity with Tifa by Chapter 12 to unlock the intimate cutscene. Otherwise, you'll get the standard cutscene.

Completing Odd Jobs

   Complete “A Rare Lost Card” in Chapter 2. This odd job becomes available after completing the “Break In the Saddle” main story quest. Check the community noticeboard, or talk to Vash in The Rusty Arrow to start this side quest.

   Complete “Calling All Frogs” in Chapter 4. This odd job becomes available after completing the “Terror of the Deep” main story mission and sleeping at the Inn. Check the Under Junon community noticeboard to start this side quest.

   Complete “Dreaming of Blue Skies” in Chapter 4. To start this odd job, you’ll first need to complete the “When Words Won’t Do” side quest. Then you can check the Crow’s Nest community noticeboard to start this side quest.

   Complete “Bodybuilders in a Bind” in Chapter 7. You’ll first need to complete the “Rendezvous in Costa del Sol” side quest before you unlock this odd job. Talk to Jules at the gym near Mt. Corel to start this side quest.

   Complete “My White-Haired Angel” in Chapter 11. This odd job becomes available after completing the “Smoke Sent Up” main story quest. Check the Nibelheim community noticeboard to start this side quest.

Using Synergy Skills and Abilities

   Understand how synergy skills and abilities strengthen affinity levels. In Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, Synergy skills and abilities allow party members to team up with other members to deliver a powerful attack. Using synergy skills and abilities for the first time strengthens the relationship level of the two characters.

   Use Tifa’s Slip and Slide skill with Cloud. This move allows Tifa and another party member to dodge an attack and deliver a counterattack. Perform this ability with Cloud to strengthen Tifa’s affinity level with him.
