Meccha Chameleon is a pretty simple game, but there are still a number of controls to learn. Sadly, the game doesn't have an in-game controls list. In this article, we'll go over all of the Meccha Chameleon controls and what they do. We also answer some frequently asked questions about Meccha Chameleon's controls. Keep reading to learn more!

To move, use WASD. Press Shift to run/sprint, and press Space to jump or wall climb. When wall-climbing, press Ctrl to go down and Space to go up.
Press F to enter paint mode. Left-click to draw on your character, and right-click to change the brush size. Press and hold Space for the eyedropper.
Press T to chat, R to change your pose, and 1 to taunt the hunters. Left-click when you're the hunter to tag hiders.

Movement controls
- WASD: Movement (left, forward, right, backward)
- Shift: Hold while moving to sprint/run, press while wall climbing to detach

- Left-click: Paint on your character

In-game controls
- Left-click: Tag (for hunters)

Use the eyedropper tool to choose colors around you. The eyedropper will pick up the color from anywhere on the map you can click, allowing you to paint with that color. The best way to use the eyedropper is to click on colors near your hiding spot to help you blend in seamlessly.
- For example, if you're hiding against a brick wall, use the eyedropper tool to pick up the color of the bricks and paint your entire body with it. Then, use the eyedropper tool to pick up the color of the lines between the bricks (the mortar) and use a smaller brush to draw those lines on your body.

Pick a pose that helps you blend in. For example, if you want to hide on a shelf, pick the curled-up pose, as it will help you nestle into the shelf and hide between the items already on it. Use this alongside your painting skills to help your character blend in.
- Use both the smooth body type and the blocky body type when finding a hiding spot. If you use a smooth body type and hide behind something with sharp angles, you'll stick out more.
Wall-sticking lets you climb up walls, which can help you find some really great hiding spots. Try climbing up the wall and onto something jutting out of it (like the signs in the backrooms map), or tucking yourself into a corner. Make sure you're not too hidden, though, or the game will give your position away.

Duplicate yourself to make your hiding spot more convincing. Making duplicates of yourself can make your hiding spot look less obvious. For example, if you are hiding on a shelf and you've painted yourself to look like a stack of books, duplicate yourself on a few of the other shelves. This makes you stand out less, since there are multiple items that look like you on the shelf. This isn't foolproof, of course (especially if a hunter knows the map really well), but it can work in a pinch!
- You can also use duplicates to throw off the hunters as you're escaping, if you have to move.

Can you run in Meccha Chameleon? Yes, you can run/sprint! When moving with WASD, press and hold Shift. Your character will move faster and throw their hands in the air.^{[1]

Can you crouch in Meccha Chameleon? Though many sources online say you can crouch by pressing/holding Ctrl, we haven't had any luck getting it to work. If you want to get underneath items, try switching to the curled-up-on-the-ground pose. This should let you sneak under furniture and other items, but you may get a warning that you're too well hidden if you do.

Can you rebind your keyboard controls in Meccha Chameleon? No, you cannot. Unlike most games, Meccha Chameleon doesn't let you change the keyboard controls. However, this feature may get added in the future, as Meccha Chameleon is actively being updated.^{[2]

Can you use a controller to play Meccha Chameleon? The game doesn't have native controller support, but you can use Steam Input to rebind your controller buttons to work with Meccha Chameleon. Here's how:
- Right-click on Meccha Chameleon in your Steam library and click Properties.
- Click Controller in the left-hand sidebar.
- Click Controller Configurator at the top of the screen.
- Click Next > OK. Make sure your controller is connected.
- Click Edit Layout.
- Edit the layout how you'd like. You can edit what each of the buttons do, the DPad, the triggers, the joysticks, and the trackpad (if your controller has one).
- Close the Controller Configurator when you're done (it saves automatically).
- Click the dropdown next to "Override for MECCHA CHAMELEON" and choose Enable Steam Input.
