The way that I teach people how to be able to take a chakra and open or close it is through a visualization technique. Because a chakra is an energy, you're kind of working with that energy to open or close it. If you're not used to doing that, it's not really going to do much until you practice. It's like an atrophied muscle. Whatever practice you are using to open or close a chakra, it just takes a little bit of finesse.

Also, each chakra has a different energy they're interacting with, for every single person. Let’s say I want to open my heart chakra. There might be energy in there that's keeping it closed. Were you hurt? Were you betrayed? Were you abandoned? Do you feel like people don't see you, or you have to hide? Do you feel made fun of? Do you feel unworthy? All of those layers of pain energy are keeping that from being open.

Here's how to open each chakra:
  • Root Chakra (Muladhara): Meditate with red jasper, ruby, or garnet, and chant the sound "LAM." Repeat an affirmation like “The earth is a safe place for me” or “I love and trust my body.” Do the mountain pose in yoga.
  • Sacral Chakra (Svadhishthana): Meditate with carnelian, citrine, or orange sapphire and chant the sound "VAM." Repeat an affirmation such as “I am creative” or “I embrace change.” Do the knees-to-chest yoga pose.
  • Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura): Meditate with yellow jasper, citrine, or pyrite and chant the sound "RAM." Try affirmations like “I am open to new ideas” and “I am powerful.” Do spinal twists in yoga.
  • Heart Chakra (Anahata): Meditate with jade, malachite, or emerald and chant the sound "YAM." Use the affirmations “I am worthy of love” and “I am lovable.” In yoga, do the fan pose.
  • Throat Chakra (Vishuddha): Meditate with turquoise, angelite, or aquamarine and chant the sound "HAM." Repeat the affirmations “My honesty attracts honesty” and “I communicate clearly.” Try neck stretches in yoga.
  • Third Eye Chakra (Ajna): Meditate with sodalite, lapis lazuli, or sapphire and chant the sound "OM." Use the affirmations “I trust my intuition” and “I am one with the universe.” In yoga, practice the gaze (looking up toward your brows).
  • Crown Chakra (Sahastrara): Meditate with amethyst, clear quartz, or selenite and chant the sound "AUM." Use the affirmations “The world is my teacher” and “I honor the divine power within me.” Do the yoga pose downward dog.
