How do you find your rising sign?
-
1Find out what time you were born. Astrologer Julia Topaz says rising signs change every two hours, so you need an accurate birth time to determine what your rising sign is. “The rising sign represents the point on the horizon at the time you were born, so it’s very time-sensitive,” Topaz notes.[16] You can find out your birth time by asking your parents, or you can check documents like a long-form birth certificate.
- What if I don’t know my time of birth? Unfortunately, there’s not a super concrete way to find your rising sign without a birth time. Try your best to narrow down your birth time with the information you have. If you can’t do that, some astrologers will work with you to rectify your birth chart. This means they’ll work backward to find your rising sign.[17]
-
2Identify where you were born. Topaz says your rising sign is also based on the location where you were born.[18] You’ll need to find out the city where you were born to properly calculate your rising sign. You can ask your parents where you were born, or you can consult your birth certificate.
- What if I don’t know my place of birth? Identifying your rising sign will be difficult without a specific location. If you have a general idea of where you were born, you can narrow down the possibilities. As is the case with a missing birth time, your best bet is probably to work with an astrologer to rectify your chart.
-
3Use an online birth chart calculator to find your rising sign. Now that you have your birth time and location to go with your date of birth, you can input the information into an online birth chart calculator. Use a website like Cafe Astrology to find out your rising sign for free. This will give you a complete birth chart with your rising sign and your 12 house positions.
