Adjust the five sliders on the personality screen in Tomodachi Life. When you reach the personality screen in Tomodachi Life’s Mii-making process, you’ll see five rows made up of eight boxes. Each row is a sliding scale (boxes 1 through 8) that determines certain aspects of a Mii’s personality—and all you have to do is select one box per row. - For instance, the Maverick personality requires you to select box 8 under Movement (the furthest toward Quick), and box 1 under Thinking (the closest box to serious).

Personality types fall into four main categories. Those categories are Ambitious, Reserved, Outgoing, and Considerate. There are four personality types per category for a total of 16 possible personalities to give your Miis—the same number as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). While certain overarching traits apply to every personality type in a category, each type also has its specific traits and behaviors.^{[8]

Personality affects several variables, including a Mii’s behavior. Personality can be a pretty big deal in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. But don’t get too worried, because it doesn’t affect everything! The main things affected by personality type are a Mii’s behavior (how they act or interact with others), dialogue (what they say to other Miis), and default color at the start of the game.
- Behavior - Miis will act differently in the day-to-day based on their personality; they’ll also react differently to situations, including arguments and social interactions with other islanders.
- Dialogue - Miis will speak differently according to their personality, using lines of dialogue associated with their personality type.
- Color - A Mii’s house color will directly reflect their personality type (since each type has a color associated with it). Additionally, a Mii’s starting clothes will reflect their personality type as well.

Personality does not affect romantic compatibility in Tomodachi Life. As much as personality type can affect Mii interactions, it won’t make a difference when it comes to your Miis’ love lives. Romance compatibility isn’t affected by a Mii’s personality; any resident can fall in love with and marry another, based on random events and, of course, your actions (as the player).
- A Mii’s dating preferences (which can be set when selecting their gender) also control which other Miis they can potentially fall in love with.
