Each corner of internet culture has its own lore, and Minecraft servers are no exception. But no Minecraft server is as infamous or has such a long, storied history as 2b2t (2builders2tools). Not keen on starting a 45-part history of 2b2t server lore on TikTok? Don't worry, we've provided you with a basic rundown on what 2b2t is, a brief history, its culture, and whether you should consider joining it.

What is the lore behind 2b2t?

2b2t is an anarchy server in Minecraft that went public in 2010. There are virtually no rules, so 2b2t players are allowed to hack, destroy, and steal almost anything they want. 2b2t has never been reset, so it renders as a landscape littered with the ruins of griefed bases. It's the oldest anarchy server in Minecraft.

  1. An anarchy server is where you go to play Minecraft with no rules, no chat mods, and very little risk of getting banned, no matter what you do.[1] That's also the perfect way to describe 2b2t, the oldest anarchy server in the game. It has never been reset since it went public in December 2010. Instead, it's covered in a wasteland of ruins from all the bases, monuments, and factions that have been built, then griefed over the years.
    • Griefing is a Minecraft term for destroying other players' creations for the sake of causing trouble and ruining the server. Some servers ban players who grief, but 2b2t allows it.[2]
    • A Minecraft server is a game environment. Multiplayer servers like 2b2t allow anyone from around the world to join and play in the same virtual space.[3]

Brief History of the 2b2t Server

  1. 1
2b2t opened to the public in December 2010, but was mostly used by 4chan users. In August 2010, the multiplayer version of Minecraft: Survival Mode was released. That same year, an anonymous player named Hausemaster and his friend georgebush420 launched 2builders2tools, or 2b2t for short, making it public by December.[4] Going public meant that anyone playing multiplayer could join the server and play on it. But most of the people who joined were members of the notorious online community known as 4chan.[5]
    • 4chan is an online bulletin board where there are virtually no rules or moderators. This means the users can post almost anything they want. Most 4chan posts are dark and offensive, as there are no regulations against hate speech, violent political activism, or even pornography.[6]
      • Warning: 4chan is unsafe for children under the age of 18 years old.

2b2t became more widely known after a YouTube video about it went viral. On June 1, 2016, YouTube creator @TheCampingRusher uploaded a series of videos where he entered and played in the 2b2t server. His first installment, "Minecraft 2B2T - The Day Everything Changed..", has over 3 million views. His entrance launched the Rusher War, where new players tried to "rush" into the game and take it over from the server's veterans. The rushers ultimately gave up and left the server, leaving the veterans as the victors.[7]
    • Since then, other famous YouTube creators have joined 2b2t, each one temporarily reigniting the gaming community's interest in the anarchy server. Those include Fuse 3, Etika, and Mr. Beast.[8]

Culture of the 2b2t Server

  1. An anarchy server is supposed to be wild and chaotic, but 2b2t is its own special brand of toxic. The chats aren't moderated, and players (many of whom also operate in 4chan) are allowed to grief, hack, and exploit errors in the game's code or the server itself to ban, destroy, and verbally abuse other players in-game.
    • One infamous exploit allows veterans to tell where new players are going to spawn. They camp out in these locations and kill the newbies immediately, before they've had a chance to play.
    • New players are often warned not to trust anybody they come across in the game, as there is no such thing as honor or chivalry in 2b2t. For this reason and many more, 2b2t is often referred to as the world's worst Minecraft server.
    • That being said, if you manage to stay alive, you can do anything you want: player vs player (PvP), surviving, building bases, raiding, and more.[9]

Should you join the 2b2t Minecraft server?

  1. Playing in 2b2t is not for the faint of heart! Even if you manage to survive beyond the first 2 seconds of gameplay, you won't receive any help or loot from any of the veteran players. You also won't make any friends because the chat is extremely offensive and aggressive. However, if you do decide to risk it and enter 2b2t, follow these tips from "The Story of Minecraft's 2B2T" posted by YouTuber @MCYBT:
    • Get away from your spawn point as fast as possible. As soon as you enter the game, start running! A speedy flight is the only way you'll escape the campers.
      • Similarly, stay far away from any spawn points you find in the game, as there are sure to be aggressive players there waiting to kill anyone they find.
    • Turn off your chat. Remember that the chat isn't moderated, and the veterans aren't welcoming to newbies. You definitely won't receive any help or good advice, and you also don't want to be flooded with lewd jokes, threats, and insults.
