If you've ever played Fortnite with a controller, you know that the default controller settings aren't great. But what are the best controller settings on Fortnite? While your game settings are somewhat subjective (as everyone has their own preferences when it comes to the feel of how the game plays), there are a few things you can do to create a good starting point that you can build off of. In this article, we'll go over the best controller settings in Fortnite. Read on to learn more!

Best Fortnite Controller Settings

• In your controller sensitivity settings, turn on Advanced Options. Start with your look sensitivity in the mid-range, and make your ADS sensitivity a bit lower.
• Choose Exponential for your Look Input Curve to start.
• Set Aim Assist at 100%.
• Set your deadzones as low as possible, unless you have stick drift.

   General sensitivity settingsThe best sensitivity settings for most players are right around the middle. If you find that your look sensitivity is too touchy, lower the look sensitivity setting. Conversely, if you find that your look sensitivity isn't fast enough, raise it.

   • Look Sensitivity: Between 4 and 6
   • Aim Sensitivity (ADS): 4
   • Build Mode Sensitivity Multiplier: 2.0-2.2x
   • Edit Mode Sensitivity Multiplier: 2.0-2.3x
   • Use Advanced Options: On
     • If you enable Advanced Options, your sensitivity options will take into account the advanced options you set, not the normal options above. If you don't want to deal with the advanced settings, you can leave Advanced Options on "Off."

   Advanced Look Sensitivity settingsIf you've enabled Advanced Options, the game will use these sensitivity settings instead of the general ones. The same principle applies, though; you'll want to start with a mid-range option and adjust later if needed. Many expert Fortnite players recommend these settings:

   • Look Horizontal Speed: Between 40-60%
   • Look Vertical Speed: Between 40-60%
   • Turning Horizontal Boost: 0%
   • Turning Vertical Boost: 0%
   • Turning Boost Ramp Time: 0.00 seconds
   • Instant Boost When Building: Off

   Advanced Aim Down Sights (ADS) Sensitivity settingsIf you've enabled Advanced Options, the game will use these sensitivity settings instead of the general ones. When setting your advanced ADS sensitivity, it's best to start with a lower setting and increase it if needed later.

   • ADS Look Horizontal Speed: 15-17%
   • ADS Look Vertical Speed: 15-17%
   • ADS Turning Horizontal Boost: 0%
   • ADS Turning Vertical Boost: 0%
   • ADS Turning Boost Ramp Time: 0.00 seconds

   Advanced Sensitivity settingsThere are a few miscellaneous Advanced Sensitivity settings you can set for your controller in Fortnite:

   • Look Dampening Curve: 0.20 seconds
   • Look Input Curve: Exponential
     • Linear gives you better reaction time, but you'll have a hard time shooting enemies that are far away. Exponential will help you make those long-range shots, but it can make building and editing slower. However, since most pros are using Exponential, it's best to start with Exponential and switch to Linear if you're having trouble. Alternatively, you can edit your build and edit look sensitivity to offset the Exponential Look Input Curve.
   • Aim Assist Strength: 100%

   Input settingsThese settings are located in the "Controller" tab. Adjusting these settings will make it much easier to play Fortnite with a controller.

   • Controller Auto-Run: On
   • Build Immediately (Builder Pro): On
   • Edit Hold Time: 0.100 seconds
   • Slide Hold Time: 0.150 seconds

   Deadzone settingsThe "deadzone" is a small circular area at the center of each joystick that your controller will ignore inputs from, confirms Fortnite Streamer & Map Designer Dustin - DWDFN. This is to prevent stick drift from impacting gameplay. It's best to start with your deadzone settings as low as possible unless you know for sure you have stick drift.

   • Left Stick Deadzone: 5%
   • Right Stick Deadzone: 5%

   Item Slot settingsFortnite allows you to set preferred item slots for your controller so you can easily know exactly where each item goes in your loadout. Here are the recommended Item Slot settings, though feel free to change them as you see fit.

   • Slot 1: Shotgun

   • Slot 3: Consumables
   • Slot 4: Explosives/Deployable Items
   • Slot 5: Assault Rifle
