How to Delete Venmo History & Make Transactions Private

While you can't delete your Venmo transaction history, you can still protect your privacy by hiding your past and future transactions. Fortunately, changing your transaction privacy settings only takes a few seconds and is super easy. We'll show you how to make your past and future Venmo transactions private on your Android, iPhone, or iPad.

Can you delete Venmo transactions?

No, deleting your Venmo history isn't possible, but you can hide all of your past and future transactions. To do this, go to your Venmo privacy settings. In this menu, you can easily make all of your past transactions private, and you can choose the option to make your future transactions private, too.

How to Delete Your Venmo Transaction History

  1. You can't delete or clear your Venmo transaction history, but you can make transactions private.
    Even deleting your Venmo account won't hide who you've paid or received money from, nor will blocking users with whom you've transacted.
    • Making your past transactions private is an easy workaround that instantly hides them from other Venmo users. Once you make your past transactions private, they'll only be visible to you and the person with whom you exchanged money.
    • You can't delete Venmo transactions fully because Venmo must keep a record of them for compliance purposes.[1]

Hide Past Transactions (Mobile)

  1. Step 1 Tap your profile photo in the Venmo app.
    You'll see it at the bottom-right corner of the screen, and it says "Me" under your profile picture. If you want to make your entire transaction history private all at once, it's super easy.
  2. Step 2 Tap the gear icon icon.
    It's at the top-right corner of your profile.
  3. Step 3 Tap Privacy.
    This option is near the middle of the menu.
  4. Step 4 Tap Past Transactions.
    You'll see this under the "More" heading toward the bottom of the menu.
  5. Step 5 Tap Change All to Private.
    It's the last option on the screen. A confirmation message will appear.
  6. Step 6 Tap Change All to Private to confirm.
    Now that you've made your previous transactions private, nobody can see who you've sent money to or received money from other than you and the recipient or sender.[2]
    • Even if you've exchanged money with people whose privacy is set to Friends or Public, all transactions involving you on their profiles will be set to private.

Hide One Transaction (Mobile)

  1. Step 1 Tap your profile photo.
    It's at the bottom-right corner of the Venmo app, and it says "Me" under your profile picture. If there's only one or two transactions that you need to make private, you can easily do so from your transaction history.
  2. Step 2 Tap Transactions.
    It's near the top of the screen and on the same row as the "Wallet" button (which is highlighted by default when you click your profile).
  3. Step 3 Tap the transaction that you want to make private.
    Transactions with a padlock icon are already private, so choose a transaction that has a globe icon (public visibility) or two overlapping people (friends-only visibility).
  4. Step 4 Tap the current privacy level.
    It'll be the blue link right next to the time. If it's a friends-only, it'll say Friends. If it's public, tap Public.
  5. Step 5 Tap Private.
    This instantly changes the privacy of the transaction, hiding it from everyone other than you and the sender or recipient.[3]
    • Even if the other person involved in the transaction has a less restrictive privacy setting, this transaction will still be set to private. Neither your friends or their friends will be able to see it once you've changed its privacy.

Make Future Transactions Private (Mobile)

  1. Step 1 Tap your profile photo.
    You'll see it at the bottom-right corner of the app, and it says "Me" under your profile picture. Making your transactions private by default ensures that all transactions you're involved in (either as a sender or recipient) always remain private.
    • Even if you send money to (or receive money from) someone whose transactions are public or friends-only, your transaction will stay private, thus only visible to you and the other party. Venmo always honors the more restrictive privacy setting between the two parties.
  2. Step 2 Tap the gear icon icon.
    It's at the top-right corner of your profile.
  3. Step 3 Tap Privacy.
    This option is near the middle of the menu.
  4. Step 4 Tap Private.
    It's the third option—the one with the lock icon. A confirmation message will appear.
  5. Step 5 Tap Change Anyway.
    Now each of your future Venmo transactions will remain private—only you and the sender or recipient will see your transactions.

Hide Past Transactions (Desktop)

  1. Step 1 Open Venmo and click on Settings.
    It's in the left-hand sidebar. If you're not logged in to Venmo, do so before continuing.
    • On a desktop, you can only hide all transactions at a time; you can't individually hide transactions. To hide only one transaction, you'll need to do that on the mobile app.
  2. Step 2 Click Privacy.
    When you click Settings, the menu expands to show the available options. Privacy is towards the bottom of this expanded list.
  3. Step 3 Click Change to Private.
    Under the "Past payments" header, you'll see two options: Change to Friends and Change to Private. Click the option to change all past transactions to private.
  4. Step 4 Click Yes.
    Venmo will ask you for confirmation to turn all past payments to Private. Once you click Yes, all of your past payments will be updated.

  1. Step 1 Open Venmo and click on Settings.
    It's in the left-hand sidebar. If you're not logged in to Venmo, do so before continuing.

    Click Private. Under the "Future payments" header, you'll see options to make your payments public, shown only to friends, or private. Clicking the Private option will automatically update your settings so all future payments are private.
