You don’t have to be a pro artist to draw an angel. If you’re looking for beginner-friendly instructions on drawing an angel for kids or for yourself, you’ve come to the right place! We’re sharing easy steps to draw different kinds of angels. Learn how to draw a basic angel, a beautiful angel, and an angel flying.

How do you draw a simple angel?

Draw a curved line for the chin with curved lines for the ears on each end.
Draw curved lines for the bangs and for the eyes, and add a smile.
Extend two long lines from the head to create the dress.
Draw two rectangles on each side for arms and at the bottom of the dress for legs.
Draw a curved line from the shoulders that loops back around to form the wings.
Add a halo above the head.
Color in your angel!

Drawing a Simple Angel

Draw a wide curve in the center of your paper for the chin. Draw the curve so that the opening is facing up. You might want to make the chin no larger than an inch or two (unless you're drawing on very big paper), to ensure you've got enough room left on the page for the rest of your angel.

Draw a sideways curve on each end of the chin. These are your angel’s ears. For added detail, draw small swirls inside the ears.

Draw an upside-down “U” to create the top of the head. Extend the lines downward past the ears so that it also looks like hair.

Draw several slanted lines across the forehead. This gives your angel hair by creating bangs. Add as many slanted lines as you like. You can even add a couple of short ones at the very top center of your angel’s head.

Draw two small curves for the eyes with three eyelashes on each. This makes it look as if your angel’s eyes are closed.

Draw a small, curved smile beneath the eyes. Place it so that it’s below the eyes and stationed in the center.

Draw two curves that come down from each side of the chin, and connect them. This forms the collar of your angel’s outfit.

Draw two long lines from the collar that curve downwards. Start from the edges of the collar, and make the lines slanted as you draw the lines down. This creates the shape of the dress.

Draw a line to connect the two long lines to create the bottom hem. Make the dress more detailed by adding a wavy line above the hem.

Draw two long rectangles on each side for arms. Create two extended rectangles on both sides of the dress with three or four small bumps for fingers. These form the angel’s arms and hands.

Draw two rectangles that extend from the bottom of the dress for the legs. Make them slightly rounded for a more realistic and cute effect. Rounding the end of your angel’s legs can also act like the feet since you’re not adding actual feet.

Draw two long, curved lines coming from the angel’s shoulders. This is how you’re going to create angel wings.

Connect scalloped lines below the curved lines that attach back to the body. Begin from the tips of the previous curved lines. Then, create a series of rounded curves until you reach the bottom of your angel’s back hem.

Draw a horizontal oval with a smaller oval inside, above your angel’s head. This is the halo! Get creative with your halo by drawing beams coming out of it for a glistening effect.

Color your angel in your favorite shades! Color in the background to give your drawing more dimension. You can add other details, too, like clouds or crosses.

Sketch a circle for the head, and a slim oval for the body. Connect these two with two curves that intersect from left to right.

Draw two curves below the body for the hips and thighs. These should be a bit wider and larger than the oval body.

Draw two lines above the oval body to form the neck. Make these short, straight lines that extend upwards from the body.

Draw a curved line coming out from each shoulder. Starting from one shoulder, draw an outer line that curves from the shoulder to the elbow. Do the same for the other side. This is going to form the arms and the part where the elbows bend.

From the elbows, draw curved lines upwards and add inner-arm outlines. The curved lines for the outer and inner arms should slant upwards so the arms look as if they’re in a prayer pose.

Draw an oval with a line in the middle to form the hands. When you draw the hands, they should come together in front of your angel’s oval body, like they’re in a praying position.

Draw long, flowing lines extending from the head to create the hair. For added dimension, draw inner hair lines that part in the middle of the forehead.

Add “S” curves extending from the hip lines that taper out at the bottom. This forms the skirt. Create the illusion of folds in the skirt by adding a few vertical lines at the hem.

Draw a horizontal curve coming from the shoulders. To begin forming the wings, draw a “C” shape that curves up from the shoulders.

Draw S-shaped lines on each side for wings. Create an S-shaped line on each side of the horizontal curve that comes down to the bottom of the skirt. You now have your angel’s wings!
- Add vertical, feathered lines to the bottom edges of the wings for a more ethereal look.

Draw a simple ring above the head to form the halo. Sketch a thin, circular shape that’s slightly above the hair. For this angel design, a minimalistic halo works best and enhances the gratefulness of the image.

Outline your angel sketch with bold colors to define the shape. Use colored pencils, markers, paint, or crayons. Choose different shades for the hair, arms, body, and skirt to add dimension.

Drawing an Angel Flying

Draw overlapping curved lines to form the hair, face, and mouth. This is going to be a side profile of your angel’s face. Start by drawing the top of the rounded head and create a scalloped hairline. From the face, draw a straight line down, making a protruding tip for the nose. Then, round the face slightly when you get to the mouth and chin area.
- Add a tiny horizontal line around the mouth to create lips with a vertical curved line attached. The mouth may look like it’s a bit puckered.

Draw a short line for the eyebrow and a curved line below for the eye. Make the eyebrow line slightly curved. The curved line for the eye resembles a horizontal “L” shape with a softer edge.

Create a scalloped line that connects the hair to the face. Begin from the backside of the hair, creating rounded, curved lines that go upwards until you reach the top hairline.

Draw two short, straight lines to create the neck. One line should extend out from the bottom of the face and the other line should extend out from the hair.

Draw two long, curved lines below the neck to form flowy sleeves. Round the first line at the top so it looks like the side of the shoulder. Continue the line, dipping downward and coming up slightly. Draw the second line below the first, starting up, then curving the line down and making it parallel with the top line.
- Connect the two lines of the sleeves with a vertical line.

Draw two short lines for the arm. Create closely spaced lines coming out of the sleeve. This is going to form the arm and wrist. Leave the space between the two lines open.

Draw a partial circle that connects to the arm to form the hand. Starting from one of the short lines, create a rounded line that connects to the other short line.

Create the horn by drawing two parallel lines that curve outward. Connect the two lines with a curved line at the end. Add another curved line that parallels the curved line at the end.

Draw two long, curved lines that extend from the arm to create the gown. Connect them with a curved line at the end that forms the hem.
- Keep a small gap between the shoulder and the line that’s closest to it.

At the gap, draw a long, curved line outward for wings. Let the curved line come back around with “U” shapes at the bottom. This creates the angel’s feathers. Add dimension by drawing a small, curved line at the top edge of the wing.

Draw more “U” shapes in the center of the wing. Add curved lines extending out from them. This makes the wings look more realistic and can give the appearance of movement.

Draw a series of “U” shapes below the wing. This will form the bottom edge of the second wing. When you look at the angel from the side, it looks as if there’s another wing behind the first one.

Sketch curved lines coming from the gown for the feet. Draw a pair of straight lines extending from the gown for each of the ankles. Draw simple foot shapes by creating a slight curve for the heel. Then, draw a short, straight line for the bottom of the foot and come to a point for the toe. Finally, continue the line from the toe and draw upwards to connect back to the straight line you drew for the ankle. Repeat these steps for the other foot.

Draw an oval above the angel’s head to create a halo. Draw another, smaller oval inside of the first oval. Place it slightly over your angel’s head so that the halo looks like it’s floating in the air.

Color your drawing as you wish! Light blue for the gown, ivory for the wings, and gold for the horn and halo are some good color choices you can consider.
