Gimkit is a popular educational site that helps you learn by playing games, and there are tons of different modes to choose from. Whether you want simple modes that just have you answering questions or interactive modes with player characters, there’s an option available for you. Keep reading, and we’ll break down all of the available games on Gimkit and which ones have been removed.

The Best Game Modes on Gimkit

There are a total of 28 game modes on Gimkit. 2D modes, like Don’t Look Down, Capture the Flag, and Dig It Up, let you run around a map and interact with other players. Other game modes, like Tycoon and The Floor is Lava, do not have player characters. All game modes use question sets for energy and in-game upgrades.

  1. Don’t Look Down is one of the most popular games on Gimkit, and many people think it’s the best. All you have to do is jump between platforms to get higher up on the map. Along the way, you’ll answer questions to get more energy and reach even higher. Try to get the highest, or reach the top before anyone else to win![1]
    • Game style: Solo or player vs. player
  2. Capture the Flag plays pretty similarly to the real-life version of the game. Two teams compete against each other to find their opponent’s flag and bring it back to their base to earn points. Answer questions to gain more energy to run, get upgrades, and build barriers. You can also collect power-ups that make you invisible so it’s easier to sneak past other players.
    • Game style: Team vs. team

  3. In Knockback, players have a Pixelator gadget that pushes others off the platform. By answering questions, your gadget gets stronger and deals more damage to the other players. Be the last one standing on the platform, and you win the game![2]
    • Game style: Player vs. player or team vs. team
  4. Fishtopia is a cooperative fishing game. Answer questions so you can earn new bait, rods, and power-ups so you can cast your line into the water. Getting more upgrades lets you keep your line out for longer and catch rarer fish. Simply work together to see how much money you can make from catching and selling fish.[3]
    • Game style: Solo or cooperative
  5. Color Clash is one of the newest game modes, and players compete to spread their paint color across the map. When you answer a question correctly, you get to move and paint a new tile, but be careful because the other team can steal it back! Whichever team has the most of their color on the map when time runs out wins the game![4]
    • Game style: Team vs. team
  6. Diamond Rush has players competing trying to collect the most gems. Players run around the map and open Chance blocks that could make you earn Diamonds, lose them, or give you a random power-up. If you run out of energy, simply answer a few questions correctly to fuel up again. Whoever collected the most when time runs out wins the game.[5]
    • Game style: Player vs. player
  7. In Snowbrawl, players shoot snowballs to knock each other out and earn the most points. When you answer questions, you reload your snowballs and also earn upgrades to your health and shields. Whichever team or player has the most knockouts when time runs out wins the game![6]
    • Game style: Player vs. player
  8. Snowy Survival is all about trying to survive against the cursed players. During the game, one player is cursed and has to knock out the others. When a player gets knocked out, they also become cursed. You can answer questions to get more energy to move around the map, get snowball launchers, and survive. The game ends when the last player becomes cursed.[7]
    • Game style: Player vs. player
  9. Tag: Domination plays like a normal game of tag. To move around, answer questions correctly to gain energy and run from the other players. When you tag another player, you gain a point for your team. At the end of the time limit and when both teams have had turns being “it,” whoever has the most points wins the game![8]
    • Game style: Team vs. team
  10. In One Way Out, you have to work together with the other players to escape a spaceship that’s been overrun with evil plants. Together, you’ll explore rooms, unlock gadgets, and find the escape pods to make your way out. Just be careful, because some of the plants will try fighting you back, so working together to answer questions correctly, build up your energy, and power up your gadgets is important.[9]
    • Game style: Solo or cooperative
  11. Apocalypse is a twist on a tower-defense game where you have to work together to fight off waves of enemies that want to destroy your base. Each player takes on a specific role to attack, build, or defend, and answering questions gives you energy to power up your abilities. Survive all the waves with your friends, and you win the game![10]
    • Game style: Cooperative
  12. In Dig It Up, it’s your job to save the Mayor of Diggsburg who’s stuck in a hot air balloon. To reach him, answer questions to give you energy that lets you mine resources and eventually build platforms. If you’re the first person to build your way up to the balloon and rescue the mayor, then you win![11]
    • Game style: Player vs. player
  13. Blastball is Gimkit’s twist on soccer, but instead of kicking the ball, you blast it across the field. Answer questions correctly to earn blasts, and shoot the ball toward the other team’s goal. Just make sure that you also focus on defending your own goal, because the other team will try to do the same thing! If you score the most points before time runs out, then you win![12]
    • Game style: Team vs. team
  14. If you’ve ever wanted to try managing a farm with your friends, then Farmchain is the game for you. Players work together to plant and harvest crops, and everyone has a small job to help out. You may sow the seeds, collect water, or sell vegetables to earn more money to help the farm out, and answering questions correctly along the way will only improve how well you’re doing![13]
    • Game style: Solo, cooperative, or team vs. team
      • In competitive team modes, whichever team has the most profitable farm wins!
  15. This or That is only available in Gimkit Creative, and it works as a great icebreaker activity. One side of the map is red, and the other is blue. Each question will have 2 options for the answer, so simply run to whichever side you agree with. This works great for "Would You Rather?" questions that let you learn more about each other.[14]
    • Game style: Free-for-all
  16. The Cash Tycoon game mode can only be done as an assignment. All you have to do is answer questions correctly to earn in-game cash. When you have enough cash, you can spend it on upgrades that let you earn even faster.[15]
    • Game style: Solo

Classic Tycoon Game Modes

  1. Tycoon is one of the classic modes of the game where you simply have to answer questions correctly to earn cash throughout the game. Each right answer adds to your bank, and players can see how well everyone else is doing. You can either play with a time limit to see who can earn the most cash, or you can set a cash limit that players race to achieve.[16]
    • Game style: Player vs. player
  2. If you’re a fan of Among Us, then you’ll love Trust No One. Most players are crewmates who try to complete tasks and find the impostors who are trying to sabotage them. Throughout the game, you can choose to vote off players that you think are impostors, and if the crewmates are able to find them all, they win![17]
    • Game style: Team vs. team
  3. In The Floor is Lava, everyone’s working together to try and survive before the lava rises too high. Answering questions correctly lets you build new structures to stay above the lava and increase your survival time. Try to survive as long as possible together to win the game.[18]
    • Game style: Cooperative
  4. Players are either on the human team or the zombie team, and they share a set amount of health that ticks down every second. Answering questions correctly lets you increase your health or sabotage the other team. Whichever team is able to survive the longest wins the game![19]
    • Game style: Team vs. team
  5. Draw That is similar to Pictionary, where players have a short time to draw a picture, and the other players have to guess what it is. If the players guess the answer correctly, then they earn a point based on how fast they got it right and how many people guessed before them. If you have the most points at the end of the game, you win![20]
    • Game style: Player vs. player
  6. What Is… is a twist on the game Jeopardy! All of the questions are put onto a scoreboard, and players select them one at a time. The first person to buzz in and answer the question correctly earns the points for that question. Get the most points after answering all the questions to win the game![21]
    • Game style: Player vs. player
  7. In Boss Battle, one player becomes the “Boss” that everyone else is going up against. The Boss earns more money based on how many people they’re facing up against, so the other team has to try really hard to answer questions correctly and use their power-ups to earn even more.[22]
    • Game style: Cooperative
  8. In Infinity Mode, each player has to collect 6 Infinity Stones from the shop, and they’re really expensive. Answer questions correctly and use your upgrades so you can build up your bank and afford all of the stones. When one person collects 6 stones, half of the class disappears in a snap, so you’ll have to see if you survive!
    • Game style: Player vs. player
  9. Team Tycoon plays just like the normal version of the game, but players are split into different teams rather than working by themselves. Your whole team shares the money you earn, so make sure you communicate with each other to figure out the best upgrades and power-ups to purchase so you have the most money at the end of the game.[23]
    • Game style: Team vs. team
  10. In Super Rich Mode, you make 500 times more in-game money for each correct answer you get for a huge bonus. However, any upgrades that you want to buy in the shop are also more expensive, so save up for the items you’re really looking forward to.
    • Game style: Player vs. player
  11. In the Hidden Mode for Tycoon, most of the information during the game is hidden, including which players are at the top of the leaderboard. Make sure to try your hardest and answer questions correctly so you end up on top!
    • Game style: Player vs. player
  12. In Drained Mode, you lose money for every minute that goes by. Keep answering questions correctly, and do it quickly, to ensure that your balance doesn’t drop to 0.
    • Game style: Player vs. player

Retired Gimkit Game Modes

PDF download Download Article
  1. Come Back was a special version of Tycoon that was temporarily released in 2021 near the end of the school year. This version of Tycoon included all of the items and power-ups that were removed for a more fun and zany game, but it was removed before the summer of that year.[24]
  2. Discount Mode played exactly the same as Tycoon, but all of the shop items were at half price and easier to purchase. This mode wasn’t played as much as the other Tycoon modes, so Gimkit eventually removed it from their platform.[25]
  3. The KitCodes game mode had printable QR codes that you could hang around the room for players to scan in person. Scanning the codes let you access different shops and areas for upgrades so you could earn more points from answering questions. However, this mode was discontinued when Gimkit focused more on digital games.[26]
