Marin Kitagawa (My Dress Up Darling) Marin is one of the most popular gals of all time, due to her style, confidence, and kind personality. She dislikes overly critical people who judge people for their interests, and she holds her own values and stands up for others. As a cosplayer and huge otaku, she also sports costumes and customizes her school uniform. We love her blonde-to-pinkish-orange ombre hair, bubblegum pink nails, and dark pink contact lenses!

Junko Enoshima (Danganronpa) Known as the “Ultimate Fashionista,” Junko Enoshima is the highly intelligent antagonist in Danganronpa. She has light blue eyes and bleached strawberry blonde hair worn in 2 voluminous pigtails. Her iconic look also features a loose black-and-white tie, a red bow, Monokuma-themed hair clips, and long red acrylic nails. She’s definitely a darker take on the traditional gyaru, but it’s totally a reflection of her cunning personality and cruel motives.

Yukana Yame (Hajimete no Gal) She’s the quintessential school gal who everyone knows and loves! Yukana is known for her strawberry blonde hair (tied in a high ponytail with a pink scrunchie, of course), striking emerald green eyes, trendy fashion accessories, and stylish nail art. More than what meets the eye, she surprises the male lead by accepting his love confession and revealing a complex, caring, and emotionally intelligent personality. It’s giving beauty and brains!

Momo Ayase (DanDaDan) Momo Ayase falls into the Kyogyaru (or Kogal) substyle, which is defined by oversized cardigans, short skirts, and loose or high socks. Many people consider her the best character in DanDaDan (and there are a lot of great characters, might we add). She’s bold, intelligent, funny, empathetic, and authentic, with the cutest style to match!

Galko (Please Tell Me! Galko-Chan) Galko is a classic gyaru with golden blonde curly hair, sky-blue eyes, and a curvaceous figure. Though she physically embodies the term, she’s actually the complete opposite! She’s shy, wholesome, and kindhearted, with a love of baking and cooking. Others think she’s trying to be seductive, but she just looks the part and gets easily embarrassed when people talk about her physique. She’s the perfect example of “looks like they could kill you, but is actually a cinnamon roll.”

Ran Kotobuki (Super GALS!) Ran has a strong sense of justice and killer style to match… and is undoubtedly one gyaru you won’t want to mess with. She comes from a long line of police officers, but decides she doesn’t want to be one after discovering she can’t dye her hair or wear her favorite accessories (we feel ya, gal!). She loves tanning, shopping, karaoke, and guarding the streets of Shibuya.

Miku Okazaki (Gal Gohan) With bleached blonde hair, flashy fashion, talon-like nails, and a golden tan that never seems to disappear, Miku Okazaki is another iconic gyaru character. She fits the “wholesome gal” trope, since she often tries to impress her cooking club advisor and teacher. Her appearance also changes as the story progresses, evolving from a customized uniform into a style more wholesome and domestic.

Minami Fuyuki (Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable!) Minami Fuyuki embraces the gyaru subculture with her sense of style and trend-conscious personality. She rocks bleach blonde hair, violet eyes, bold makeup, and the shortest skirts (even in the freezing Hokkaido winters). While she looks like the typical gyaru, she’s actually super perceptive and caring, taking the new boy in school under her wing.

Akari Watanabe (More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers) The perfect embodiment of the modern gyaru aesthetic and personality, Akari Watanabe is the gal of our dreams! She has waist-length pink hair tied in twin buns, striking emerald green eyes, impeccably manicured nails, and a trendy, outgoing, and expressive attitude. She’s definitely giving main character energy!

Aiura Mikoto (The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.) Unashamed of her powers and looks, Aiura Mikoto is an oracle with one of the most distinct gyaru looks in all of anime. She has bright chartreuse-green hair, tanned skin, and wears tons of accessories, such as face stickers, bracelets, and hair clips. She also sports trendy casual clothes, like leopard-print coats and lower-cut tops. We’ve totally seen a few recreations of her look on Halloween!

Momo Adachi (Peach Girl) While she has a deep tan and dyed hair from her time on the high school swim team, Momo Adachi isn’t your average gyaru. She’s actually quite innocent and has low self-esteem, but her classmates label her as a promiscuous gal because they’re jealous. She’s a gyaru not by choice, but because she was born beautiful!

Yuzu Aihara (Citrus) A self-proclaimed gyaru, Yuzu Aihara embodies the aesthetic by dying her hair chestnut blonde, wearing makeup, and styling her uniform in rebellious ways, such as untucking her shirt and wearing accessories. She also rocks stylish side-swept bangs and ear piercings and always keeps up with the latest trends. She’s totally proud to be a gal… even if it gets her in trouble!
