Slang expert Tobi Nwodo explains how to dominate spaces with your presence
PDF download Download Article

On the most basic level, mogging is a looksmaxxing term that means to look better than anyone else in the room. But there's a lot more to it than that: it's about being your best self and not allowing anyone to dominate you. There's also more than one way to mog, and if you're going to do it well, you need to know every mogging trick in the book. For this guide, we partnered with slang experts and personal stylists to help us explain how to mog other people and offer tips for improving your mog game. We'll also explain how to avoid getting mogged by others. Let's go!

How do you mog other people?

Slang expert Tobi Nwodo says you mog others by looking objectively more attractive than them. The goal is to outshine them physically so you stand out in a crowd (and in photos). To do this, optimize your physical appearance, posture, style, personality, and overall presence. Steps

How to Mog People

  1. When everyone else wears shlubby t-shirts and yoga pants, you can mog them by wearing tailored clothes in high-quality materials that fit you like a glove. Specifically, it can help to choose clothes that highlight your most attractive physical attributes, whether that's your sculpted arms, your fabulous behind, or your snatched waist. You want to mog someone? Always dress better than them.
    • Nwodo says there are different ways to mog others, and doing so with your physical appearance (aka “looks mogging”) is the most common way. He says looks mogging is when you look objectively more attractive than everyone around you, often by having hunter eyes, a strong jawline, etc.[1]
    • Nwodo says there are other specific types of mogging based on appearance, although they can all be classified as simply “mogging.” These include height mogging (when you're taller than the other person) and frame mogging (when your physique, particularly shoulder width, is wider than that of the other person).[2]

  2. To boost your physical presence, stand up straight and spread your feet wide. Let your arms drape over the backs of chairs and couches when you're sitting down. Most importantly, don't give way or back up from the person they're mogging. Bottom line: don't be afraid to take up space.

  3. Want to mog someone in particular? It's time to lock gazes with them. No, this isn't about making a personal connection—it's about showing that you aren't afraid of them or how good they think they look. You're confident, you're attractive, and you have a right to be here. Show them that by making steady eye contact, and prove that you're the mogger to beat.
    • In photos, look directly into the camera with confidence.
  4. An effective mogger circulates the room, smiles confidently, starts conversations, and compliments people without expecting anything back. Doing these things will increase your aura and make you seem friendly and approachable. Being comfortable when socializing shows that you don't think you're inferior to anyone you're talking to.[3]
  5. Mogging isn't all about looks. According to Nwodo, you can “status mog” by having a social status higher than the person you’re mogging.[4] While you shouldn't boast or brag, that doesn't mean you can't honestly tell people what you do if they ask or demonstrate your deep knowledge in a subject when it comes up. If you know any famous people, you might want to name-drop them if the topic calls for it.
  6. Mogging isn't just about physical beauty. You can mog someone else without being the handsomest or prettiest person in the room. Let your fun, intelligent, and charismatic personality speak for itself.[5]
    • Other positive personality traits that people admire are empathy, self-confidence, a sense of humor, integrity, honesty, and kindness.
    • This strategy doesn't work in photos, but it definitely works in real-life interactions!

Strategies to Boost Your Attractiveness

  1. You want muscles that will mog everyone in the room? Time to hit the gym! Building muscle and eating healthy go hand-in-hand, so make sure you're eating balanced meals and snacks with protein, carbs, fiber, and healthy fats.
    • Nwodo says that the best way to become better at mogging is by improving your looks. “This includes 'softmaxxing' and 'hardmaxxing,’” he explains. “Softmaxxing includes natural methods like going to the gym and increasing your wealth. 'Hardmaxxing' [means using] unnatural ways like plastic surgery. Hardmaxxing is generally more extreme and looked down upon in the public eye.”[6]
  2. Mewing is a type of facial exercise that's very popular among looksmaxxers. While there's currently no hard science to back it up, looksmaxxers firmly believe that facial exercises like mewing can make your jawline look sharper and more snatched (especially when you're mogging for photos).
  3. Develop a good face care routine that targets your specific skin issues, like acne, texture, or dark circles. If you have a beard and/or a mustache, trim it and keep the edges neat. Don't forget your hair care routine! Wash the hair on top of your head regularly, trim it every 6-8 weeks, and never leave the house without styling it to flatter your natural features (whether you're a guy or a girl).
    • For women and men, consider applying makeup to enhance your natural facial features and conceal flaws you haven't fixed yet.
    • Remember to floss and brush your teeth every day, and see the dentist about fixing any unattractive discoloration or crookedness in your smile.
  4. Personal stylist Kalee Hewlett says to wear clothes "that best complement your body shape and your lifestyle." Next, she advises, choose colors that complement your natural complexion, hair color, and eye color (consider working with a stylist for this step!).[7] Finally, pick timeless styles and accessories that match your personality and the self-image you want to project into the world.
  5. Improving posture is becoming a lost art in the age of "tech neck". Set yourself apart from the masses by standing and sitting up straight. Train your muscles and limbs to relax when you're walking, gesturing, or even just sitting or standing still. Avoid hunching your shoulders, crossing your arms, or fidgeting, or you might appear closed off and nervous.
  6. Sometimes there's nothing you can do to change your voice, but there are a few modifications to make your voice nicer to listen to. For example, if you tend to mumble, speech coach Patrick Muñoz advises speaking more slowly, so you can properly articulate the words you want to say.[8] Additionally, learn to speak with proper grammar and inflection, so that you always sound intelligent and classy.
  7. A successful, confident, and hardworking person can easily status mog people with less ambition and drive.[9] Focus on your career and do the best you can to achieve your professional goals. Attend events related to your field, network with like-minded individuals, and stay up-to-date with the latest developments in your industry.
  8. You don't have to be a peak physical specimen to mog others. Your personality can do all the heavy lifting for you! To improve your personality, think of positive attributes that you (and people in general) admire. Those might include confidence, intelligence, empathy, charisma, and humor. Practice and develop those traits as often as possible until they become second nature.
    • For example, to come across as more confident, learn to trust yourself and your abilities. Build trust by setting small but achievable goals, improving your skill in something, and speaking or writing positive affirmations (e.g., "I can do this!").[10]
    • Pro tip: No one likes a try-hard, so don't worry too much about whether you have a naturally mogging personality. Instead, focus on talking to people and improving your communication skills. You'll eventually find your groove and learn what it takes to make people take an interest in you!
    • Pro tip #2: Improve your overall education by taking classes and seminars, and seeking to understand current affairs. This strategy will help round out your personality and give it substance as well as style!

How to Stop Being Mogged by Other People

PDF download Download Article
  1. “You avoid being mogged by not being in photos/videos with people more attractive than you, or being in a relationship with someone significantly more attractive than you,” Nwodo says. Another way to avoid being mogged is by "[not] calling out someone for their looks [if you're] less objectively attractive than them," he continues.[11]
  2. Do you feel like someone else is mogging you with their good looks? Don't fret, there are plenty of ways you can make yourself immune to their mog face. If you're less physically attractive than they are, compensate by being fun to be around, being graceful and well-spoken, and letting your professional accomplishments speak for themselves.[13]
  3. When someone mogs you, it means they think they're more attractive or have a better personality than you do. You don't have to share that opinion—in fact, you don't have to compare yourself to them at all! It's exhausting and unhealthy to constantly measure yourself up to others. Instead, feel comfortable and confident in who you are—flaws and all—and focus on being the best version of yourself.[14]

What is mogging?

PDF download Download Article
  1. Looksmaxxing expert Rorz explains that mogging "is essentially when one person outshines another in terms of their appearance." Usually, says Rorz, it applies to someone who's more physically attractive than the person or people they're with. But it can also describe someone who dominates others with their confidence and personality.[15]
    • Mogging vs mewing: Mogging is when someone is more physically attractive or personally appealing than another. Mewing is a physical exercise where you make your jaw look more snatched. It's popular in looksmaxxing and can help you mog the camera in your selfies.
    • "Mog" origins: The term "mogging" comes from the acronym AMOG, a looksmaxxing term that means "Alpha Male of the Group."
