Tabaxi names are unisex. Unlike many DnD races, the Tabaxi do not have traditional male and female names. Instead, their names are gender-neutral, determined by clan, and based on factors such as astrology, prophecy, and clan history. Tabaxi name structures and patterns are inspired by certain real-world cultures, like the Aztecs.
- Tabaxi names are often shortened by friends and family. These nicknames are derived from their full names.

The Tabaxi also have clan names. Clan names help the Tabaxi know which clan someone belongs to. These names are often based on specific geographical features near the clan’s territory (like “Rumbling River”). Some Tabaxi use their clan name during formal introductions or to differentiate themselves from someone with the same name. Clan names are not used as surnames, however.

Consider your character’s personality and important life events. Tabaxi names are descriptive and often reflect personal experiences, accomplishments, or characteristics. When developing your character, think of what qualities they have and what values they hold. Keep these things in mind when choosing a name.

Come up with a clan name. Clan names are usually simple, descriptive, and reflect a geographical feature of the Tabaxi’s ancestral home. They’re typically formatted as [Adjective/Noun] + [Location Feature]. Consider where your Tabaxi is from and what that area looks like. Here are some examples:
