  1. This is the original 67 hand gesture that many kids imitate. Keep both palms up, and alternate moving one hand up and one hand down. The movement looks as if you’re weighing scales or balancing your options. Then, say “6-7” out loud while making the gesture.[2]
  2. This variation of the hand gesture can be tricky to do, which is why 67 hand sign tutorials have flooded social media. Hold your hand flat out in front of you. Point your ring finger down, and form a circle with your middle finger. Finally, raise your pointer finger and slightly curve it. Your pinkie stays straight and horizontal.
    • Some have compared this variation to a gang sign, but there’s no evidence to suggest that the gesture is in any way gang affiliated.
    • TikTok user @notjax shares a 67 hand tutorial with Skrilla’s “Doot Doot” song as background music.
    • This 67 hands tutorial by YouTube user @itzkevinperez also features “Doot Doot” in the background.
    • TikTok user @kat_hodapp demonstrates how to do the 67 hand sign.
  3. The 67 handshake is done with a friend and inspired by the Wuxi Finger Hold in Kung Fu Panda. It basically consists of a series of back-and-forth hand slaps, a handshake, then finishing with the Wuxi Finger Hold. From the handshake, grab your friend’s thumb with your index finger and thumb, and raise the rest of your fingers with a slight curve. Then, have your friend make an upside-down L with their thumb and index finger. Check out these videos of the 67 handshake:

    • According to slang expert Tobi Nwodo, the song “Doot Doot” by Skrilla inspired the whole 67 meme trend. He explains that the rapper says the phrase “6-7” in the song, and people started using the lyrics in reference to basketball and to create memes.[4]
