Mason 67 isn’t a real SCP—meaning it wasn’t created as part of the SCP Project or uploaded to any of the SCP wikis. It’s just a horror meme that people started calling an SCP.

   The Mason 67 meme started with a viral video of a kid at a basketball game. In the original video posted by YouTuber Cam Wilder, the camera pans to an enthusiastic young boy who says “Six sevennnn” while making a juggling motion with his hands—a reference to the viral “6-7” lyric from the Skrilla’s song “Doot Doot.” The video exploded across the internet, with some people finding it funny and others calling it cringe.

   • The boy was nicknamed the “67 Kid.” Sometimes he’s also called the “67 Kid with Fluffy Hair” because of his swoopy “ice cream” haircut.
   • People started calling the 6-7 Kid “Mason” because of another meme stereotyping a certain type of Gen Z kid. Namely, that they have a swoopy haircut, wear brightly-colored clothing, play baseball, quote memes non-stop, and are named Mason, as seen in this video from TikToker @reneditzzzzz6.
   • “The 6-7 kid further popularized the stereotypical ‘Mason’ white boy archetype,” agrees Jay. “The ice cream shorts, ice cream hair, and baseball cap [are] all connected and associated with the 6-7 meme.”

   The 6-7 Kid was then memed into a horror character. After the video of the 6-7 Kid went viral, images and videos started circulating that showed his image altered in a scary way. The first known horror edit is this video from @kingphonk_, which shows the 6-7 kid with a gaping mouth in a staticky analog horror style. Other memes soon followed, including those showing the 6-7 Kid with glowing blue eyes and a mouth that could stretch wide enough to swallow whole planets.

   • Jay says that the connection between the 6-7 Kid and SCPs started when X user @seiyaposting made a post that said, “that one SCP when you look at him,” with a scary edit of the 6-7 kid that made him a variation of SCP-096. SCP-096, also known as Shy Guy, is known for freaking out when you look at him.
   • People also began calling this spooky creature Mason 67.
   • Mason 67 memes often feature distorted sounds and black-and-white images, like this video from TikToker @footballh2h.

   His 6-7 chant can kill people. According to legend, Mason 67 disguises itself in a crowd by looking like a typical Gen Z child. But when he gets upset, his eyes and mouth start glowing blue, and he chants “6-7, 6-7” while his jaw stretches open wider and wider. The chant either causes people to repeat “6-7” until they die, or it paralyzes them and they explode into a pile of ashes.

   • Mason 67 might do this because his favorite team loses a basketball game, for instance.
   • This TikTok video from @softfact88 says that Mason 67’s chant can cause memory loss, confusion, and power disruptions.
