SCP-682: The Hard-to-Destroy Reptile in a Nutshell

SCP-682, or the Hard-to-Destroy Reptile, is a large lizard-like creature that attacks anything that’s alive. It can regenerate any part of its body no matter how severe the injury. It’s considered extremely dangerous and must be contained in a chamber filled with hydrochloric acid at all times.

What is SCP-682?

PDF download Download Article
  1. SCP-682, or the Hard-to-Destroy Reptile, is a large creature that looks like a reptile or dinosaur. It can grow or shrink depending on how much it consumes, but it’s extremely intelligent and able to converse with others. When something would harm or kill SCP-682, it can regenerate its body and adapt to survive under any conditions.
    • SCP-682 is considered one of the deadliest entities because it’s hard to contain and will attack people without notice. The SCP doesn’t know how many victims there have been, but they estimate it has killed hundreds or even thousands of people.
    • Some origin stories claim that SCP-682 is a child of the Scarlet King, an interdimensional god-like being set on destroying the universe.
    • SCP-682 is a Keter-class entity, meaning that it’s extremely difficult to contain and control.[1]

SCP-682 Personality & Abilities

  1. SCP-682 is highly intelligent, and it often tries to bait people in conversations. It may try to outsmart the person it’s talking to, but it also gets angry very easily and goes into a fit of rage without warning. It has expressed that it hates all things that are alive, and has called some of its victims “disgusting” just for existing. SCP personnel are forbidden from talking to SCP-682 unless it’s for official business or research.[2]
    • Any personnel who break protocol and speak with SCP-682 without permission is immediately restrained and taken away from it.
  2. SCP-682 is very strong and fast, so it can tear through enemies quickly and easily. It also makes it difficult to contain unless it’s subdued by acid. Depending on how many people or victims it consumes, it can even grow its body larger and stronger.
  3. When SCP-682 gets hurt or injured, including if it loses a limb or organ, it immediately starts regenerating and recovering from the injury. Even when over ¾ of its body has been destroyed or damaged, it can talk and regrow even stronger than before.
    • SCP-682 has filtering gills inside of its nostrils that remove any harmful material that it consumes, which may explain why it can regenerate so quickly.

How is SCP-682 contained?

PDF download Download Article
  1. Whenever SCP-682 is caught, it’s immediately placed in a 5 by 5 by 5 metres (16 × 16 × 16 ft) room that’s lined with acid-proof material. The chamber is then filled with hydrochloric acid so the Reptile is completely submerged and unable to react.[3]
    • Even though the acid breaks down and destroys most of SCP-682’s body, it regenerates fast enough to survive while submerged.
  2. Because SCP-682 is so strong and intelligent, it’s been able to break out at least 6 times. Each time it escapes, it goes on a rampage and takes down anyone in its path before the SCP uses its full force to recapture it. SCP-682 is now kept in a top-secret facility far from any human civilization to prevent any further tragedies.
    • When SCP-682 is contained, no one is allowed to talk to it because it could get enraged and break its containment.

Can SCP-682 be destroyed?

  1. While the SCP instructs that SCP-682 needs to be destroyed as soon as possible, there haven’t been any successful attempts. The only thing that seems to contain it for the time being is being submerged in acid, but it is still not a long-term solution.
    • While the SCP has tried to find any weaknesses, they have been unsuccessful because SCP-682 has been able to adapt its body to withstand any harm.
    • The SCP wants to use SCP-689 against the Hard-to-Destroy Reptile. SCP-689 is a small statue that must always be watched, or else it disappears and kills someone who has seen it before.[4]

How does SCP-682 interact with other SCPs?

PDF download Download Article
  1. SCP-182 can “ride” people’s minds and perceive life how they see it. When SCP-182 first entered the Reptile’s mind, the Reptile started thrashing around like it was hallucinating. After a few minutes, it calmed down and SCP-182 began convulsing and screaming in pain.[5]
    • SCP-182 now refuses to enter SCP-682’s mind if it’s able to.
  2. SCP-409 transforms anyone who touches it into a crystal within a few hours. When SCP-682 was exposed to SCP-409, crystals started to form, but it took longer than normal. While the transformation was painful for SCP-682, the process stopped halfway through. The crystals exploded, and SCP-682 was able to regenerate even though it lost limbs.
    • After the initial exposure, SCP-682 is now immune to the crystallization process.
  3. SCP-173 is a concrete statue that attacks unless you’re looking directly at it. When SCP-682 was put into a room with SCP-173, it backed up against the wall and continually stared at the statue. Even when the SCP shot out the Reptile’s eyes and SCP-173 attacked, the Reptile regenerated its body with extra eye protection.[6]
  4. SCP-999, or “The Tickle Monster,” is a large blob of orange slime that improves the mood of anyone it touches. When SCP-682 comes into contact with the Tickle Monster, it starts to feel happy and eventually fell asleep while laughing. When personnel came to remove SCP-999, the Reptile woke up and attacked with a burst of energy and broke containment.[7]
