Horror expert Sydney Bermudez explains why this weird SCP is actually dangerous
PDF download Download Article

There are a lot of really powerful SCPs out there: world-ending Gods, interdimensional time-traveling assassins, demons, and more. But SCP-1507 is just a bunch of pink lawn flamingos…so what makes them so special? In this article, we’ll explain one of the most popular “mundane” SCPs in the history of all containment, including what it does, its potential origins, and more. We also spoke with a horror expert to determine what makes SCP-1507 so dangerous and memorable.

How does SCP-1507 work?

Horror expert Sydney Bermudez says SCP-1507 is a group of lawn flamingos that look totally normal and harmless, but are actually aggressive. The 30 flamingos appear capable of moving and attacking as a pack if someone gets too close and they deem them a threat.

What is SCP-1507?

  1. SCP-1507 is a species of living plastic lawn flamingos. They are about a foot tall or each, the traditional pink color, and they stick in soil with a garden stake. By all measures, they look just like normal lawn flamingos, except they can move around, they’re sentient, and they’re extremely aggressive to everyone except POI-1507. As evidenced by their run-ins with other people and SCP staff, they’re capable of causing serious harm (presumably by stabbing people with their beaks).[1]
    • Who is POI-1507? Person of interest (POI) 1507 is a man named Leroy Day. According to SCP-1507’s containment protocol, he’s the only person SCP-1507 will calmly interact with. After Leroy suffered some sort of accident that caused him to go deaf, a friend gifted him the sentient flamingos; however, the friend didn’t know they were sentient and was later killed by the flamingos.
    • Why is SCP-1507 so dangerous? Bermudez says it’s dangerous because it reproduces, organizes, and can overwhelm through sheer numbers, giving it that unsettling “small thing becomes unstoppable” energy.[2]
    • What makes SCP-1507 memorable? Bermudez says SCP-1507 is fascinating because it takes something normally harmless (plastic flamingos) and turns them into a bizarre, escalating threat. “The contrast between a goofy lawn ornament and aggressive anomalous behavior makes it memorable.”[3]

What does SCP-1507 do?

  1. After they are gifted to POI-1507, he mentions that the flamingos seem to enjoy watching the koi pound. After apprehension, the flamingos were put in a wildlife observation area, where it seems that they’re content. The article also mentions the flamingos being social with one another, so they kind of just seem like a group of normal birds hanging out.
    • They seem to attack anyone who isn’t POI-1507. While the flamingos appear to be content to hang out on their own or with Leroy, they become extremely territorial and aggressive around anyone else. Leroy’s poor friend who gifted him the birds is implied to have been stabbed by the flamingos multiple times after showing up at his house.

Potential Inspiration of SCP-1507

PDF download Download Article
  1. Back when the world of internet memes was a lot more tame and straightforward than Italian brainrot and 67, people used to just post funny text on top of still images. One such image depicted pink lawn flamingos stuck to a T-Rex skeleton, with the phrase “A flock of lawn flamingos can pick a T-Rex clean in under 90 seconds…” Given the fact that lawn flamingos aren’t alive (and certainly not known for aggressive behavior, even in fictional contexts), it seems very possible that SCP-1507 is an inside joke about the old T-Rex meme.
    • Where does this image come from? We aren’t 100% positive we found the first instance of the image, but our investigations point to a reddit post from 2014 as the likely origin. Since SCP-1507 was first published in 2021, we can’t rule out the potential explanation for the article.

Similar SCPs

SCP-735 SCP-735 is a box. It has a slot on the side, but other than that, it’s just a normal box. When you touch it, it starts to insult you. Like…it gets really mean and aggressive. Like SCP-1507, this is another super mundane object that harbors some very negative feelings towards humanity.
  2. 2
SCP-871 SCP-871 refers to 237 cakes. Whenever one of these cakes is eaten, it will self-replicate in 24 hours. However, if it isn’t fully consumed, it will keep recreating itself over and over again until someone eats all of them and a single “pristine” cake can appear. Like the flamingos in SCP-1507, SCP-871 is a mundane item that holds a strange danger (the cakes can overwhelm the world!).
  3. 3
SCP-2137 SCP-2137 is a CD copy of Tupac’s 1995 record Me Against the World. It’s a simple compact disc with zero remarkable qualities, except when you play the 7th track, “Heavy in the Game,” the listener will hear a totally unique song that breaks down the logistics of a crime that actually happened and hasn’t been solved yet. It’s a super weird, funky SCP, and it sort of has the same underlying creepy texture as SCP-1507.
  4. 4
SCP-939 SCP-939 covers a pretty horrifying version of a pack animal. SCP-939 are these freaky skin-sacks that work together to lure people to their unsuspecting doom. They may not be as mundane or cute as SPC-1507, but they’re both kind of spooky pack animals with weird motivations.
  5. 5
SCP-2029 SCP-2029 is an egg. It sits in a glass jar. Sometimes, it produces a solid form of hydrogen sulfide that needs to be disposed of. It’s a pretty weird, funny SCP that sounds like it could get pretty dangerous pretty quickly if left to produce infinite acid. It’s up there with SCP-1507 in the category of “SCPs that might be a big deal later on.”

Tips

  • There’s a really popular Minecraft mod that puts SCP-1507 into the game! The mod will spawn pink lawn flamingos that remain totally still unless players approach them. Once someone gets too close, the flamingos will attack as a block. It’s a really fun mod for exploratory games or ARGs. If you happen to defeat the flamingos, you may get lucky and have them drop a flamingo you can pick up and use as decoration. Just be careful—if the decorative flamingos get struck with lighting they come back to life!
