Use a pencil to sketch a light circle in the center of your paper. This will serve as the top half of Luffy’s head, from his forehead to his mouth (we’ll add in his jaw and chin later!). Then, draw a horizontal and a vertical line going through the center of the circle to act as your guidelines.^{[1]

For Luffy’s eyes, draw two circles just below the horizontal line going through his head. Add a smaller, filled-in circle in the center of each eye for his pupils. Then, draw slanting lines above Luffy’s eyes for his iconic brows. Don’t forget to add a curved line just below his right eye to make his scar!^{[2]

Add Luffy’s mouth, nose, and ears towards the bottom of the circle. For a simple closed smile, draw a curved line at the bottom of the circle that extends to Luffy’s pupils. To make his nose, sketch a short line between his eyes that lies on the vertical line through his head. Then, draw an angled line coming off of it, so his nose forms an “L” like shape. Draw two half-circles between Luffy’s eyes and the corner of his mouth to make his ears.^{[3]

- To create Luffy’s iconic wide smile, add a half circle underneath the curved line you drew for his mouth at the bottom of the circle to create a “D” like shape. Then, draw a curved line through the middle of his smile to create his teeth.
Starting at the edge of the circle where the horizontal line crosses through Luffy’s head, draw a line angling down toward his mouth. Then, add the same line on the other side of the circle. Connect the lines together with a curved line to create Luffy’s jaw and chin. Then, add two vertical lines on either side of the center of his chin for his neck.^{[4]

Draw a curved line just under the top of Luffy’s head. Then, draw an oval just above it that extends around Luffy’s head and connects just under his jaw—this is the brim of his hat! Add a half circle that connects to the top of the oval to make the top of the hat. Luffy usually has several spiky pieces of hair that fall over his forehead. So, simply draw several triangular shapes extending from the brim of his hat to create these pieces. Then, extend the jagged pieces to Luffy’s ears so the hair peaks out behind them. Create a few smaller jagged lines below his jaw to draw the hair at the back of his head, too.^{[6]

At the end of Luffy’s neck, draw a downward-angled line on either side to make his shoulders. About halfway between his neck and shoulders, draw two vertical lines to create the straps of his tank top.^{[7]

Outline and color in your drawing. Using a darker pencil, a black pen, or a black marker, trace over Luffy’s eyes, nose, mouth, scar, eyebrows, jaw, chin, ears, hair, hat, neck, shoulders, and tank top. Then, erase the guidelines you drew through his head and any other excess sketch marks you made. Color Luffy’s hair black and add more color to the drawing, or simply keep it black and white.
- If you decide to color in your drawing, make Luffy’s tank top and the sash on his hat red, his hat tan, and use a pale tan color for his skin.

With a pencil, draw a wide half circle that comes together at a very slight point at the bottom. This will serve as the bottom of Luffy’s head, including his jaw and chin!^{[8]

Fill the top half of the half circle with Luffy’s hair. Place your pencil above the open top of Luffy’s head and draw several soft, angled lines that connect to its edges—these are the pieces of hair that fall over Luffy’s forehead. To create his fluffy hair, draw soft, wavy flame-like shapes above his head. Add some spiral shapes inside his hair to give it a cloud-like look.^{[9]

- Keep your lines soft and rounded instead of jagged when drawing Luffy’s hair in his Gear 5 form. His hair has a fluffy, cloud-like look rather than his normal spiky look.

Draw Luffy’s eyes and eyebrows, nose, and mouth. Towards the middle of Luffy’s head, create 2 circles for his eyes. Add a smaller circle in the center of each for his irises, followed by an even smaller filled-in circle for his pupils. For his brows, draw a downward-angled rectangle over each eye, creating a spiral at each end.^{[10]

- Don’t forget Luffy’s iconic scar, too! Simply draw a curved line underneath his right eye, adding two vertical lines on either end.
In between Luffy’s eyes, draw an “L” shape for his nose. Then, draw a sideways “D” shape for his wide grin. Add a curved line along the top and bottom of his mouth to create his top and bottom teeth. To make his ears, draw a half circle that rests between the top of his eyes and the middle of his mouth.^{[11]

Add in Luffy’s neck, chest, and shirt. Below Luffy’s chin, draw two vertical lines that curve outwards to create his neck. Angle the lines slightly downward to make his shoulders and outline the top half of his chest. To draw his open shirt, draw wavy lines from the tops of his shoulders that extend down, then add circular buttons on one side.^{[12]

- Since Luffy’s chest is exposed, add in the top half of an “X” shape using jagged lines to make his scar.

Draw Luffy’s hat behind his back. When Luffy is in his Gear 5 form, he usually wears his hat around his neck so it drapes behind his back. Simply draw two curved lines that connect from either side of Luffy’s ears to the bottom of his shoulder to make the brim of the hat. Then, add a line just below his neck that goes across his chest to make the drawstring that holds his hat in place.^{[13]

- For extra detail, draw cloud-like shapes extending over Luffy’s shoulders and behind his head to mimic the clouds that form around his body while he’s in Gear 5.

Outline and color in your drawing. Use a darker pencil, black pen, or black marker to trace over Luffy’s eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth, jaw, chin, ears, hair, neck, shirt, and hat. Then, erase any excess sketch lines. Luffy is pretty complete in just black and white, as his hair and shirt are white! However, feel free to add in more color if you prefer.
- In particular, make Luffy’s eyes a reddish magenta color, his hat tan, his skin a pale tan, his scar pinkish, and the inside of his mouth pink.

Start with a circle for Luffy’s head, then add in circles for his eyes, an “L” shape for his nose, downward angled lines for his brows, and a curved line for his mouth. Draw in jagged shapes for the hair across his forehead, then draw an oval around his face for his hat. Simply add a half circle on top to create the top of his hat.^{[14]

Add Luffy’s neck, shoulders, and torso. Draw two vertical lines underneath Luffy’s jaw to make his neck. Then, add two downward-sloping lines from either end of his neck for his shoulders. Create two long, vertical lines from the ends of his shoulders and connect them with a horizontal line—you just drew Luffy’s torso!^{[15]

- Add in a few simple details to make Luffy’s tank top. Draw a “V” shape from the ends of Luffy’s neck that extend down to his torso. Then, draw a vertical line from the bottom of the “V” to the end of his torso. Add a few circles on the right side of the vertical line for the buttons, and you’re done!
From the ends of Luffy’s shoulders, draw two long rectangular shapes that extend just past the end of his torso to create his arms. Then, draw two fists at the end of each arm. Simply draw a circular shape, then add a spiral shape on the side that faces his body to make his thumb and index finger.^{[16]

Draw Luffy’s shorts and legs using rectangular shapes. Along the left end of Luffy’s torso, draw two parallel lines that angle slightly outward to create his left thigh. Then, draw mirrored lines on his right side. Close off both thighs with a horizontal line to form his shorts. Draw thinner parallel lines coming from the ends of the shorts to create Luffy’s calves, which are about the same length as his thighs.^{[17]

- A few simple details finish out Luffy’s shorts. Just draw another horizontal line a bit above the end of his shorts to create the cuff!
At the end of Luffy’s legs, draw a fan-like shape that extends outward, with the widest part facing you. These are Luffy’s feet! Then, add a curved line underneath his feet for the bottom of his sandal. Make five tiny curved lines along the bottom of his feet for his toes, then draw an angled line over his foot for the straps on his sandals.^{[18]

Outline and color in your drawing.
