Eteled Mii, Explained: The Story Behind “Wii Deleted You”

There are too many weird and wild creepypastas to count—and one such creepypasta entity is Eteled, a haunted Mii said to haunt the Wii console. But what’s the story behind Eteled, and how does he factor into the popular “Wii Deleted You” series? Eteled’s Origin Story

In life, Eteled’s name was Henry Morris. Eteled’s past life actually wasn’t revealed right away, but rather in a later episode of “Wii Deleted You” called “Eteled: Origins.” The episode (told from the perspective of a former coworker, Johnathan) reveals that Eteled used to be a man named Henry who worked for Nintendo of America during the creation of the Nintendo Wii. As a human, Henry was closed off and surly, and even began to act erratically at work over time.
- Johnathan describes Henry as having “glared at some of the employees,” and saying that he’d “hide in the bathroom” without talking to anybody.
- He also says that there were weird rumors about Henry and how he was hired floating around the office

Henry dies in a freak accident at work. Johnathan describes one day when Henry’s behavior is especially erratic; he paces while muttering to himself, then grabs a boxed-up Wii and goes to a back office. Not long after, there’s a scream from the office, and Henry is discovered with his body having seemingly been electrocuted—much to the rest of the office’s horror and shock.
- The Wii that Henry grabs is one that’s been readied for shipping to retailers (ahead of the console’s official launch).
- This story is therefore set in 2006, the year the Nintendo Wii launched.

Henry’s coworkers see footage of his death. The security footage they watch shows Henry drinking a beer while setting up the Wii, powering it on, and making a strange Mii which he names “Eteled.” He then notices the TV screen is flickering and tries to fix the Wii’s plug (which is loose), but spills beer onto the outlet and electrocutes himself. The onlookers then see a strange phenomenon as Henry’s spirit transfers to Eteled.
- Before his accident and death, Henry audibly says, “Huh, I’ve always wanted to be a Mii” after creating Eteled.
- Then, after the accident, Eteled says, “I’ve always wanted to be a Mii. Have you ever wanted to be a Mii?” in a distorted voice, echoing Henry’s last words.
- After that, about 30 seconds pass—and then the scream that alerted Henry’s coworkers is heard.
- Johnathan also sees “creepy” images flashing on the TV screen after the scream. The final image is a hallway with empty hospital beds lined up (which comes back into play later in the creepypasta series).

Eteled’s Wii is later shipped out with the rest of the consoles. After going back to work, Henry’s coworker realizes that another person took the Wii that Henry had been using and repackaged it without reformatting the system memory—basically ensuring “Eteled” was still on the console. Johnathan and his friend Mike both resign from Nintendo, worrying about what might happen when a customer discovers Eteled on their Wii.
- Johnathan wraps up his story by saying, “I really hope that whoever buys that Wii doesn’t experience what Eteled might do, and if they do, I pray that it doesn’t make a lasting effect on them.”

Eteled haunts a Wii console belonging to a child named Kyle. This is where the original “Wii Deleted You” creepypasta begins: with a boy, Kyle, getting a Wii from his dad in 2006 and discovering a Mii already created on it called “Eteled.” Thinking Eteled looks creepy, Kyle deletes it and makes his own—only to find that Eteled comes right back.^{[5]

- This happens repeatedly. Each time Kyle tries to delete Eteled, the same thing happens, with Eteled even showing up as a spectator in Wii Sports.

Eteled begins to speak to Kyle directly. After trying to delete Eteled a bunch of times, Kyle sees Eteled speak to him through the TV. Eteled says, “Why are you trying to delete me?” and Kyle responds that he’s creepy—which angers Eteled. Eteled tells Kyle that “Miis have feelings too,” before causing static on the screen as his face gets very large, filling the entire TV with an increasingly angry expression.
- Kyle tries to show this to his dad, but Eteled vanishes, causing Kyle’s dad to assume he’s lying.

Kyle is ultimately forced to keep using Eteled to play Wii games. Whenever Kyle is alone with his game, Eteled repeatedly deletes Kyle’s custom Mii, causing a message that reads “Wii Deleted You” to appear each time Kyle returns to the Mii channel. Kyle is unable to stop this from happening, and he resigns himself to playing as Eteled if he wants to use his Wii from then on.^{[6]

In part two, Eteled haunts Kyle and his friend. Kyle has grown tired of playing as Eteled, but his friend Nathan comes over and wants to play on the Wii with him. When the two launch the Mii channel, however, it seems glitchy—and Eteled suddenly appears, making it impossible for them to close the channel and telling Kyle’s Mii that he’s coming to “visit.” Then, he appears to brutally murder Kyle’s Mii on-screen.^{[7]

- The real Kyle is unable to turn off his Wii while Eteled attacks his Mii with an axe. So, he quickly unplugs the entire console and stashes it in the closet (while the staticky TV says “THIS IS NOT OVER!”)

In part three, Kyle gets a Wii U. Still traumatized by Eteled, Kyle is hesitant to use the new console—but he removes his old Wii’s SD card and puts it into his computer, finding a file called “eteledmiichannel.WAD.” Upon opening the file, Kyle’s cursor transforms into Eteled’s face, and then Eteled himself appears on-screen in the Mii channel. He tells Kyle that he “always thought that you’d come someday,” and asks Kyle to delete him.^{[8]

- After deleting Eteled, Kyle finds a file called “DELETED.MP4.” Opening it, he sees a video of Miis lying, near death, in hospital beds (one of the Miis being Eteled).
- Kyle learns that deleted Miis are sent to this liminal hospital space to die, and that while he alone can return to the Mii channel, he can’t erase the pain of deletion.
- In the end, Kyle surmises that deleting a Mii is “basically the equivalent of being diagnosed with…an incurable sickness,” and the hospital is where they spend their final moments.

In the “Sam’s Story” sequel, Eteled grows to regret his past actions. This story centers around Samantha Coleman, who finds Eteled’s Wii at a thrift store 10 years later. In the story, Eteled isn’t the antagonist; rather, it’s a character known as Austin Sanders, or the “Corrupted Mii” (another spirit of a Nintendo employee who ended up as a Mii). Eteled is more sympathetic, confessing his past to Sam and becoming immediately less creepy after Sam says she won’t delete him.^{[9]

What does Eteled look like?

Eteled is a creepy-looking, bald Mii. He’s depicted with a rounded, oval head, pale skin, and minimalistic features. His eyes are large and totally round, with large black pupils (which, according to the creepypasta, expand when he gets angry until they cover his eyes completely). He has a relatively small nose and a wide, smiling mouth. His clothing is simple—a black turtleneck and black pants—and his hands are simplistic and rounded.
- Stylistically, Eteled resembles other Miis made for Nintendo’s consoles (but, of course, he’s designed to look a lot creepier than the average Mii).

Eteled’s personality ranges from shy to aggressive. In Kyle’s stories, Eteled’s behavior is pretty aggressive and angry; he’s possessive of his space on the Wii and refuses to share it with any other Miis to the point of “dismembering” (or deleting) them. He has even said that he no longer knows how to express himself emotionally without getting aggressive. In other instances, however, his behavior can be more timid and insecure—particularly when he’s talking about himself.
- In the creepypasta stories, Eteled also seems reluctant to talk about his past as “Henry,” having only talked about himself and his old regrets to Sam.

Eteled can control aspects of a Wii and delete other Miis. As mentioned above, Eteled’s main “powers” involve the ability to control the Wii console that he’s been loaded onto, inserting himself into games in place of other Miis and “deleting” other Miis from the console entirely—effectively altering gameplay for Kyle and other users. He also can’t be deleted from his console; he perpetually returns no matter how much one tries to erase him.
- Technically, Eteled’s abilities also involve being able to swing an axe (as shown in concept art of him eliminating other Miis).

Is Eteled real?

No, Eteled is a work of fiction. As with many creepypastas, Eteled’s story is a sort of online superstition; it’s supposed to make you feel like an actual entity like that could be out there somewhere, and you might run into him one day. But, in reality, Eteled is just a story. Of course, fans of the “Wii Deleted You” creepypasta can (and do) try to recreate Eteled in their own games, so it’s theoretically possible to run into a fan-made lookalike out there!
- For instance, Miitopia is an RPG (role-playing game) for Nintendo Switch that lets players make Mii characters—and there have been some “Eteled” creations in the game, as seen in the r/Miitopia subreddit.
