In this article, we'll go over how to set your invisible status, what invisible means, and what it looks like to others. Appearing Invisible on Discord

To set your invisible status, click or tap your profile picture, then select "invisible." This will make you appear offline. Most people who choose this status do it to hide or maintain their privacy. You can also change your Discord username hex code to match the background color to make you look "invisible."

Open Discord and click on your profile picture. It's in the bottom-left corner of the screen, next to your display name and status.
- Note that if you set your status on Discord on desktop, it will also change in the mobile app.

Click the button under Edit Profile. This button will likely say Online and have a green dot next to it, but it might also say Idle or Do Not Disturb.

Open the Discord app and tap on your profile picture in the bottom-left corner of the app. It's next to your display name and status.
- If you change your status on the Discord mobile app, your status will also change in the Discord desktop app.
This time, it will be up near the top-left corner of the screen. A menu will pop up at the bottom of your screen.

Tap on Invisible. You'll see four options in this menu: Online, Idle, Do Not Disturb, and Invisible. Your status will likely be set to Online if you've never changed it.
- If Invisible is already selected, your status is already set to invisible.
- On the mobile app, you can't choose how long you are invisible for. It defaults to "forever" (or until you manually change your status).

If someone appears invisible on Discord, they don't want anyone to know when they're online. They could be hiding from someone, or they could just want to not be bombarded with messages all the time.^{[2]

You can still talk to these people, of course, but there's likely a reason they chose to set their status to invisible. However, everyone's boundaries are different, and some people may not mind if you message them while they're invisible. For example, you may have a close friend who keeps their Discord status as invisible to maintain their privacy, but they're happy to chat with you whenever you send them a DM. It all depends on the situation, so make sure you are communicating with your friends to avoid pushing past their boundaries.

What does an invisible status look like to others?

In a server's member list and the friends list, you'll be listed under the "offline" header, plus you'll have the offline dot (a grey empty circle) next to your icon. If you aren't chatting in a server or using voice chat, you will look completely offline.
If you're appearing invisible, but you're sending messages in a channel, those messages will show up as if you were online (because you are, of course). You still won't change in the members list, but people will be able to figure out if you're online if you're actively chatting.

You'll appear in voice chats. If you're in a voice chat while you have your invisible status set, you'll be listed in that voice chat. Of course, you'll still look offline in the members' list or in someone's friends list, but other people will be able to figure out you're voice chatting if they check out the voice channels.
- If you're in a private voice channel, only people with permission to see that channel will see you in voice chat.

People may see your activity status. If you don't have a status, Discord will display an activity status when you're in a voice channel or if you're sharing your screen. These activity statuses will be visible even if you're invisible, but only to people who have access to the voice channel you're currently in.^{[4]

- For example, if you're sharing your screen in a server where everyone has access to the voice channel you're in, everyone will see in the sidebar and/or their friends' list that you're sharing your screen.
- If you're sharing your screen in a server where only certain people can see that voice channel, only people with those permissions will see your activity status.
- People who aren't in that server (and/or don't have permission to see that voice channel) won't see that you're sharing your screen, even if you are.

Making Your Discord Name Invisible

Can I make my name invisible in Discord? Yes, but it requires setting your name's hex code to a specific color. If you want to appear invisible in the default grey theme, use #323339 as the hex code color for your name.
- Note: This will only work if the other person looking at your messages is using the default grey theme. There are other themes as well that you can find the hex codes of, but some of the multicolored themes may not work with this trick.
- If you're not the server admin or can't edit the settings for your server roles, ask the server admin to change your name color.
- If you are the server admin or you can edit server role settings, change your role's hex code color to the one listed above. If you don't have a server role, you must create one and assign it to yourself before you can change your name hex color.
