Satoru Gojo is the world’s most powerful jujutsu sorcerer in Jujutsu Kaisen, and some would argue that he’s also the most attractive. But despite his good looks, Gojo doesn’t have a love interest… or does he? Many fans speculate that he had a romantic relationship with Suguru Geto, leading to questions about his sexuality. In this article, we partnered with an anime and manga expert to explain whether Gojo’s sexuality has been confirmed, as well as why people think he is or isn’t gay. Warning: JJK spoilers ahead.

What is Gojo’s sexuality in JJK?

Anime & manga expert Simon Zeng says that Satoru Gojo hasn’t had a love interest in Jujutsu Kaisen. So, his sexuality hasn’t been explicitly stated. Because of his bond with Suguru Geto, many fans think he could be gay or bisexual. Others argue that he is straight and that the two simply have a close friendship.

   Gojo’s sexuality has not been confirmed. While many Jujutsu Kaisen fans debate Satoru Gojo’s sexuality, nothing has been explicitly stated in the manga or anime canon. Plus, Zeng adds that Gojo hasn’t had a love interest in the series. Many fans interpret his deep friendship with Suguru Geto as romantic, while others see them only as close, platonic friends. Currently, there is no canon evidence to support either claim.

   • Because nothing has been confirmed either way, some fans also speculate that Gojo is bisexual.

   Many fans interpret his relationship with Geto as romantic. Zeng explains that people ship Gojo and Geto together because they’re best friends. The pair have a long, complicated relationship, starting with them meeting in high school and ending with Gojo killing Geto after he became an extremist. Between these two events, though, they developed a deep friendship in which they pushed each other to grow and learned to trust each other. Since they were so close, many fans suspect their relationship was more than platonic.

   • Gojo describes Geto as his “one and only friend,” and many interpret their emotional dependency as romantic undertones in their relationship.
   • Zeng adds that fans may ship Gojo and Geto together because they’re very handsome characters, too!

   We don’t know Gojo’s final words to Geto. Following Geto’s defeat in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, he is confronted by Gojo. Geto says, “You should at least curse me at the end,” but Gojo’s response is censored in both the manga and the anime. Creator Gege Akutami stated that Gojo’s reply is hidden somewhere in Volume 0, leading some fans to believe he said “I love you,” confessing his romantic feelings.

   • Other fans speculate that he told Geto that Geto was his one and only friend.

Why do people think Gojo is straight?

   Some argue that his relationship with Geto shows the importance of male friendships. Since Gojo and Geto only refer to each other as friends, many fans take them at their word. These fans argue that there are no romantic undertones to their relationship and that it’s actually an example of a strong, emotional, platonic relationship.

   • Some fans have stated that they prefer to interpret Gojo and Geto’s relationship as platonic because there aren’t a ton of healthy male friendships presented in the media.
   • Gojo has never had a canon love interest regardless of gender, so this is still just speculation about his sexuality.
   • In Zeng’s opinion, Gojo is straight, and he doesn’t see any indication of Gojo being gay in the anime.
   • Plus, Zeng notes that Jujutsu Kaisen is a shonen anime that’s full of action and battles, so romance really isn’t explored.

   JJK creator Gege Akutami has said he can’t picture Gojo being faithful. In one oft-cited interview, Jujutsu Kaisen’s creator Gege Akutami stated that he could not picture Gojo being serious about or faithful to one woman. Some fans use Akutami’s comments to support their theory that Gojo is gay, while others believe Akutami simply meant that Gojo is attracted to women but is a playboy who can’t commit.

   • Ultimately, at least for now, it seems like Akutami is leaving Gojo’s sexuality up to interpretation.
