Anime expert Grant Cunnigham explains the powers granted to Megumi Fushiguro through his domain
PDF download Download Article

In Jujutsu Kaisen, domains are the pinnacle of jujutsu sorcery, serving as a display of the full potential of the caster’s ability. When it comes to Megumi Fushiguro, however, things are a little different, as his domain is incomplete. Nevertheless, it’s extremely powerful, and in this article, we explain everything you need to know about it, including what it is, the powers that come with it, why it’s incomplete, and more, all with wikiHow-exclusive help from an anime expert. We even explain what his complete domain expansion may look like, so read on!

Megumi Fushiguro’s Domain Expansion Explained

Anime expert Grant Cunningham says Megumi Fushiguro’s domain expansion, Chimera Shadow Garden, traps his opponent in a pocket dimension made of shadows. In this dimension, his strength is fortified; he can summon multiple shikigami, create clones of himself, and slip in and out of shadows.

  1. According to Cunningham, Megumi Fushiguro’s domain expansion, Chimera Shadow Garden, traps his opponent in a pocket dimension made out of shadows. Here, he’s able to summon multiple shikigami of varying strength, make clones of himself, and slip in and out of the shadows to surprise his enemies.[1]

Chimera Shadow Garden Abilities

  1. One of the most useful abilities of Chimera Shadow Garden is the shadows it grants Megumi. Not only is he able to freely move between these shadows, but he’s also able to keep weapons within them and trap enemies in them. When enemies are trapped inside of his shadows, they have no oxygen, buoyancy, or resistance, so they fall forever.
    • This ability can be used against him, though, as seen when Reggie Star turned their battle into a contest of weight by dropping cars inside of the shadows.
    • Since Megumi must bear the weight of whatever is in his shadows, he was forced to bear the weight of the cars Reggie dropped inside his domain.
    • To counteract the sinking effect of Megumi’s domain, an opponent must fortify their footing with cursed energy.
  2. Chimera Shadow Garden greatly extends Megumi’s technique, allowing him to summon multiple shikigami to overwhelm his opponent. For example, during his fight against a Finger Bearer in season 1 of the show, Megumi was able to summon multiple versions of Nue to electrify the Finger Bearer after attacking it with hundreds of toads.[3]
  3. Since Chimera Shadow Garden expands Megumi’s technique, it also gives him the ability to summon clones of himself made out of shadows. These clones can significantly shift the direction of a battle, as seen when Megumi used them to combat Reggie Star and overwhelm him with constant attacks in the Culling Game.[4]
  4. While he suffers physical drawbacks when he tries to open the domain without enough cursed energy, Chimera Shadow Garden still fortifies Megumi’s strength and pushes his technique to 120% of its maximum potential. With the enhanced technique, Megumi is able to overwhelm his opponents with a combination of clones and shikigami attacking one after another.
    • Megumi is able to leverage this maximum potential when he expands his domain to create a hole in Dagon’s barrier during their fight in Shibuya.

Why is Megumi’s domain incomplete?

PDF download Download Article
  1. As a young sorcerer, Megumi is especially talented, but he has trouble creating independent barriers from scratch. Since barriers are essential for domains, this means he’s unable to open his domain without an enclosed space to act as a barrier for him.[6]
    • Megumi trying to open his domain without a barrier is like trying to paint on air. While the barrier usually acts as a canvas, Megumi is able to supplement it with an enclosed space, similar to painting on a wall.
    • Since Megumi’s domain is incomplete, it doesn’t have the guaranteed-hit effect that other domain expansions do.

What would a complete Chimera Shadow Garden look like?

PDF download Download Article
  1. While we never get to see a complete version of Chimera Shadow Garden in Jujutsu Kaisen, fans speculate that it would bring his Ten Shadows Technique to its full potential by flooding the enemy with never-ending shikigami from the moment they enter to the moment the battle is over.[7]
    • These shikigami include Maharoga, which significantly increases the domain’s lethality.
  2. Some Reddit fans believe that a complete domain expansion would deprive Megumi’s opponent of their senses as they’re forced to sink forever, serving as an opposite to Satoru Gojo’s domain expansion, which overloads the enemy with infinite amounts of information.
