In Minecraft, wood is one of the many building materials you can use to build and craft whatever you want. But you may be wondering—how many types of wood are there, and where can you find them? In this article, we cover all twelve wood types that are currently in Minecraft, as well as where to find them and what color they are.

There are twelve wood types in Minecraft: oak, dark oak, pale oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, mangrove, cherry, crimson, warped, and bamboo. Most of these woods, when processed into planks, are brown, but pale oak is white, cherry is pink, crimson is red, warped is teal, and bamboo is yellow.

OakOak trees are the most common trees you'll find in Minecraft, so you'll have no shortage of Oak Wood blocks. Some variation of oak trees can be found in about half of the overworld biomes, so you won't have to look far to find them. Oak Log blocks are a medium brown, but when processed into planks, they are a warm, medium golden-brown.^{[1]

Dark OakDark oaks are a variant of the oak tree, and they can only be found in two biomes. Both the raw wood and the processed planks are a very dark brown, almost black. Dark oak is great if you're trying to build a statement piece or something with a dark color scheme.^{[2]

Pale OakPale oaks are the polar opposite of dark oaks. They are, like dark oaks, a variant of the oak tree, but they have gray wood blocks that are processed into white planks. If you want to build something with a black and white color scheme, combining dark oak and pale oak planks would work well.^{[3]

SpruceSpruce trees can mainly be found in the various taiga biomes (as taiga biomes are, in real life, forests full of evergreen trees), but they can also be found in a few other biomes as well. The wood blocks themselves are quite dark, but after they're processed into planks, you're left with a very nice medium-brown material to build with, perfect for a woodsy cabin vibe.^{[4]

BirchBirch trees look similar to oak trees, but they're found in some different biomes and have a white stump with black spots instead of a brown one. While the unprocessed wood blocks look similar to a birch tree's stump, the processed wood is a very nice light tan that looks cozy and modern, perfect for building houses with.^{[5]

JungleJungle wood is, of course, only found in jungle biomes. There are a few variations of the jungle tree, but all of them will give you Jungle Logs when chopped down. The wood from these trees is a medium-dark brown, but the processed planks are a nice light brown.^{[6]

AcaciaAcacia trees are only found in savanna biomes. They are very distinct, with trunks that grow diagonally and a flat canopy on top. The unprocessed wood is a dark gray-ish color, but the processed planks are a beautiful red-brown color.^{[7]

MangroveMangrove trees can only be found in the Mangrove Swamp biome. They're large trees covered in vines, and they have aerial roots that peek out above the water of the Mangrove Swamp. The wood is a beautiful dark red-brown color.^{[8]

CherryCherry trees can only be found in the Cherry Grove biome. Just like a blossoming cherry (or sakura) tree, Minecraft cherry trees are pink, with dark brown trunks. Unlike a real cherry tree, however, these cherry trees give you pink-colored planks when their Cherry Logs are processed.^{[9]

CrimsonUnlike the other woods on this list, crimson wood comes from a Huge Crimson Fungus. You can only find these "trees" in the Nether. Crimson Logs are a mottled red and purple color, but when you process them into planks, you get a very unique dark purple-red block.^{[10]

WarpedWarped wood is obtained in a similar way to crimson wood—you harvest it from fungus in the Nether. The difference is that you get it from Huge Warped Fungus, which results in a striking dark teal plank block when the wood is processed.^{[11]

BambooWhile the game doesn't technically consider bamboo to be wood, you can still process it into planks and use it like wood to build things. Individual bamboo stalks can be combined into a block of bamboo, which can then be processed into bamboo planks. Bamboo planks are a bright, greenish-yellow color.^{[12]
