Power Rangers is an iconic show that ran from 1993 to 2023—and the fun might not be over yet, since a Disney+ reboot is rumored to be in the works. Every Power Rangers team features iconic outfits, and each character has their own colors. We’re breaking down all of the colors of the Power Rangers over the years, including what they mean and which characters wore them. Plus, find out how the Rangers get their colors and which Ranger wore the most colors throughout their time on the show.

The most common Power Rangers colors are red, blue, pink, black, yellow, and green. Every team has had a Blue Ranger and a Red Ranger. Characters with the same colors usually share common traits. For instance, Red Rangers are usually team leaders, Blue Rangers are tech-savvy, and Black Rangers are powerful fighters.

Blue Blue Rangers are the second-in-command in most Power Ranger teams. They usually contribute to the team by providing technical support or unique inventions. They’re often calm and strategic under pressure. Some Blue Rangers are also excellent fighters.^{[3]

Pink Pink Rangers are often considered support Rangers. They tend to use ranged attacks and are excellent at helping manage large groups of enemies. So far, the Pink Rangers have all been female, and they’re also known for being empathetic, graceful, smart, and fast. They’re usually the emotional anchor of the team.^{[4]

White White Rangers are known for their strength. In fact, when the first White Ranger appeared, he was the most powerful Ranger anyone had seen so far. Across the series, White Rangers are rare, but they’re usually some of the most powerful fighters, often representing an a Ranger who’s ascended to a higher form—like Tommy, who started as a Green Ranger, then became a White Ranger after he was brought back to life.^{[11]

Purple Purple Rangers are rare—there have only been a few of them across the shows and comics. They tend to join the team later in the season, and they’re known for being really strong. Other than that, we don’t know a lot about Purple Rangers.^{[14]

Navy blue In Power Rangers Ninja Storm, Blake Bradley is the Navy Thunder Ranger. He sports a dark blue suit with gold and black accents. Blake and his brother Hunter started as opponents to the Wind Rangers, but eventually joined their team. Blake is the only Navy Ranger in the series so far.^{[16]

Crimson Like his brother Blake, Hunter Bradley wears a unique color in Power Rangers Ninja Storm. As the Crimson Thunder Ranger, he wears a deep red suit with gold and black accents. He’s the only Ranger to officially wear crimson, although Koragg’s second form suit in Mystic Force might be considered crimson by some.^{[17]

Orange Orange is one of the least common colors for Power Rangers. There’s only been one official orange Ranger in the shows. There was also an Orange Ranger in the Beyond the Grid comics, and Boom was an Orange Ranger in S.P.D.—but only in a dream sequence. Because they’re so rare, we can’t say much about their shared characteristics.^{[18]

Champagne Champagne is tied with orange as the least-common Power Rangers color—there’s only been one. Zayto was a Ranger in both Dino Fury and Cosmic Fury. He started his journey as a Red Ranger, then he became the White Dino Fury Zenith Ranger. In Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, he was still the Zenith Ranger, but with a unique champagne-colored costume.^{[19]

How do the Rangers get their colors?

The Morphin Grid chooses each Ranger’s colors. The Morphin Grid is the source of the Power Rangers’ powers. In Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, it was revealed that the Morphin Grid decides which color a Ranger will be. (Some Rangers choose morphers that already have a color assigned, but the Morphin Grid may have somehow influenced that decision.)^{[20]

- Did you know? Power Rangers often wear their colors even when they’re out of their Ranger suits. There’s never been an official in-universe reason given for this, but maybe the Morphin Grid affects Rangers’ fashion choices.^{[21]

Which Ranger had the most colors?

Tommy Oliver had 4 colors and 5 forms as a Ranger. Tommy (played by Jason David Frank) started as the evil Green Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 1. He returned as the White Ranger for Seasons 2 and 3 and 1995’s Power Rangers Movie. Tommy then held the roles of the Red Ranger in Power Rangers Zeo, Red Ranger in Turbo, and the Black Ranger in Power Rangers Dino Thunder.^{[22]
