The anime is about a class of kids tasked with killing their alien teacher. The story begins when 70% of the moon suddenly explodes, and the tentacled, octopus-like creature responsible shows up at Class E-3’s room at Kunugigaoka Junior High, which is the lowest performing and most ridiculed class at the school. He tells the class that he’s now their teacher and plans on destroying the earth in 1 year's time.^{[7]

- The class is then visited by a government official, who tells them that they need to kill the creature (whom they call Korosensei) to save the earth. Korosensei agrees and encourages the class to try to assassinate him, all while actually teaching them (and providing assassination tips).^{[8]

Throughout the season, the students come up with creative ways to kill him, while actually receiving a decent education from their alien teacher. This helps them grow more motivated and confident so they perform better in school, and causes them to get attached to Korosensei. Season 2 Season 2 continues Class E-3’s mission to assassinate Korosensei. However, over the course of the season, they learn about Korosensei’s past, and grow conflicted about killing him, as he’s truly a kindhearted teacher who cares about them (and they care for him, too).
