The Lifeform Fellow is a tall, spindly, vaguely humanoid entity. It looks like a very tall, thin bundle of wires arranged in a human-like shape. It has arms that reach almost to the floor, with three fingers on each hand. It also has two eyes, a torso that’s little more than a spinal column, and a round(ish) head. Some fans prefer the Backrooms without a monster. For some fans, the appeal of the Backrooms is the eerie, liminal feel—the idea that you could find yourself trapped in a nearly infinite empty space with no other people (or entities) in sight. A monster adds a tangible threat to the Backrooms universe, which can detract from that unsettling quiet.
- For instance, one Redditor says, “Liminal spaces are at their creepiest when it’s calm. It’s about the possibility of there being something around the corner without it ever manifesting.”
- Another Redditor agrees, saying, “The Backrooms have become essentially another SCP knock-off with containment procedures and rules.” They add, “I want the entities to be mysterious and unknown. I want my brain to be able to run wild with these things. When you explain everything, it leaves little room for your imagination.”

Other fans point out that monsters have always been a part of the Backrooms.
