Fun Facts About KATSEYE

The fandom name is a portmanteau of “eye” (which comes from the second part of the girl group’s name) and the word “icons.” EYEKONS is also pronounced as “icons.” This name was actually chosen following a fan contest, and it was officially confirmed by KATSEYE in April 2024.^{[15]

Specifically, the girl group’s name was inspired by the chrysoberyl variety of the cat’s eye gemstone, which is known for its range of different colors and patterns. KATSEYE’s members felt that the gemstone represented their various personalities, skills, and cultural backgrounds coming together as one.^{[16]

The Manon situation is tricky. While KATSEYE is not a traditional K-pop group, it was created by one of the biggest K-Pop companies. That being said, K-entertainment is notoriously filled with ambiguity when it comes to any issues within group lineups to prevent fandom backlash. Other hiatuses usually lead to returns, but in this case, Manon's might be more of a quiet exit than a sabbatical.
