  1. The Sword of Nunobuko is a holy relic that was used by Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki to create the world. It has a double-helix blade (similar to DNA), and it was created from Truth-Seeking Orbs. It’s believed that it also has the power to destroy the world, especially in the hands of Obito.[1]
    • Notable Users: Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, the Sage of the Six Paths; Obito Uchiha

  2. The Chakra Cannon is a massive weapon that draws in chakra from nearby shinobi. Then, it fires that chakra in a blast that’s powerful enough to blow up the actual MOON. This one is comfortably one of the strongest weapons in the entire series. Luckily, it hasn’t seen much use (so far).[2]
    • Notable user: Kumogakure

  3. Uchiha’s Susanoo wields both the Totsuka Blade and Yata Mirror. Moore says that the Totsuka Blade is Uchiha’s ethereal sealing blade while the Yata Mirror is his near-perfect defensive shield.[3] Anyone who’s touched by the blade is immediately trapped in a genjutsu dream world for all time, and the mirror can counter any physical or spiritual attack. Together, they make Uchiha’s Susanoo (almost) unbeatable.[4]
    • Notable User: Itachi Uchiha’s Susanoo
  4. These are extremely powerful tools and weapons, agrees Moore.[5] Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, the Sage of the Six Paths, wielded powerful chakra weapons, known as the Treasured Tools (or Sacred Treasures). Together, these tools create a powerful kit filled with unique abilities. The five Treasured Tools are:[6]
    • Bashōsen:[7] A large sword-fan that can generate any of the 5 elements
    • Kōkinjō: A rope that can be used to draw out a target’s “word soul.” The word is then severed by Schichiseiken and sealed in Benihisago.
    • Shichiseiken: A very large sword that can be used to sever a person’s soul from their body.
    • Benihisago: A large gourd capable of absorbing a person’s “word soul.” If the victim says that word, their soul will be sucked into the gourd.
    • Kohaku no Jōhei: A pot that can seal a target inside for all eternity
  5. Samehada is Kisame’s chakra-absorbing sword, explains Moore.[8] The massive, sentient sword is used by the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist. This terrifying sword has a mouth filled with sharp teeth, and it’s covered in scales, so it shreds anything it hits. It chooses who wields it, then amplifies their powers by fusing with them.[9]
    • Notable User: Kisame Hoshigaki
  6. Sasuke Uchiha’s Kusanagi sword has an extremely long, straight blade, and its range is ruthlessly impressive. On top of that, Sasuke can charge it with his lightning chakra, adding a high-powered vibration to its cutting strength. This sword is so powerful that it was able to cut through Kubikiribōchō.[10]
    • Notable user: Sasuke Uchiha
  7. The Kubikiribōchō is one of the strongest blades in Naruto, notes Moore.[11] This broadsword has a razor-sharp blade. Amazingly, this sword can heal itself by absorbing iron from the blood of its victims.[12]
    • Notable users: Zabuza Momochi, the Demon of the Mist; Suigetsu; Killer Bee
  8. Ameyuri Ringo wields Kiba, a set of slender twin swords that are curved at the top and bottom. The swords are charged with lightning, and they’re thought to be the sharpest swords in the world. On top of that, they can intensify their users’ Lightning Release technique.[13]
    • Notable user: Ameyuri Ringo
  9. Hiramekarei is a two-handled sword with a wide, flat blade. It absorbs chakra from its user. Then, during battle, it can use the chakra to transform itself into any other weapon type, including a hammer or a longsword. Additionally, it can be separated into twin blades.[14]
    • Notable users: Mangetsu Hozuki; Sixth Mizukage of Kirigakure, Chōjūrō
  10. The Kusanagi is a terrifying blade because it can extend at will, giving it a dangerously inescapable range. Then, it can retract just as quickly for close combat. On top of that, the sword can be controlled telekinetically, and there’s almost nothing that the blade can’t cut through.[15]
    • Notable users: Orochimaru; Sasuke Uchiha
  11. Shibuki, also known as “Blastsword,” has one thin edge for cutting. On the other side, the sword has a huge scroll filled with explosive tags. These tags detach and create a huge blast when the sword’s user fights someone. The wielder has to be careful to avoid the blast themselves! Afterward, the scroll reloads itself with new tags.[16]
    • Notable user: Jinpachi Munashi
  12. The Adamantine Staff is actually a summoning technique. The sword’s wielder, Hiruzen Sarutobi, summons Enma the Monkey King in staff form. Although Enma appears as a simple staff, he can still emerge during battle, often slashing opponents with his claws or teeth.[17]
    • Notable user: Hiruzen Sarutobi, Third Hokage of Konoha
  13. Kabutowari is a giant hammer connected to a large axe by a leather rope. The user can use either the hammer or the axe on their own. But to really make the most of this unique weapon, the user can slice into an opponent with an axe, then slam the hammer onto the flat side of the axe. This attack is powerful enough to break nearly any defense.[18]
    • Notable user: Jinen Akebino
  14. Nuibari looks like a large needle, and it’s used much the same way. This thin longsword has a wire wrapped around its hilt. Its user pierces opponents with the blade, then stitches together the bodies of its victims with the wire. It’s gruesome, but effective.[19]
    • Notable user: Kushimari Kuriarare
  15. Sasori uses puppets that look like humans or monsters to fight in combat. The puppets are controlled by Chakra Threads, and they carry weapons that can be used in battle. The most powerful of Sasori’s puppets is the Third Kazekage Puppet, which is imbued with Kaekagi’s powers. But Sasori also turned himself into a puppet, which came into Kankuro’s possession.[20]
    • Notable users: Sasori
  16. Temari wields a giant war fan decorated with three purple dots. The fan becomes more powerful the more Temari opens it, and it’s at full force when all three circles (which she calls “stars”) are visible. Temari uses this fan to generate huge wind blasts that can drive back enemies or even create tornadoes.[21]
    • Notable User: Temari
  17. These are very powerful weapons, agrees Moore.[22] Chakra Rods, also called Black Receivers, are small black rods. The user generates the rods from their own body, imbuing them with chakra before sending them flying into the bodies of their opponents. Chakra rods can only be used by people who have awakened the power of the Rinnegan.[23]
    • Notable Users: Madara Uchiha, Nagato (Pain), Obito Uchiha, Demonic Statue of the Outer Path
  18. Gunbai (also known as Gunbai Uchiwa or the Gunbai Fan) is a powerful war fan that has been in the Uchiha Clan for generations. This guitar-shaped fan was carved from a tree spirit. It doesn’t fold, and it has a chain attached to its handle. Gunbai can help defend against chakra attacks by deflecting the chakra, then transforming it into wind.[24]
    • Notable users: Madara Uchiha, Obito Uchiha
  19. Killer B has a unique fighting style called Acrobat, where he fights while wielding 7 sharp blades. The blades themselves aren’t especially notable, but the skill it takes to master 7 swords in battle is supremely impressive. (If you’re wondering, he holds them in his elbows, left armpit, right leg, stomach, neck, and mouth—he keeps his hands free to grab swords as he needs them.)[25]
    • Notable user: Killer B
  20. The Shinobi Gauntlet doesn’t appear until the Naruto sequel Boruto, but it’s still pretty cool. It’s a Scientific Ninja Tool that the user wears around their wrist. They can then insert tiny scrolls into the Gauntlet, allowing them to use any type of Jutsu they want, without having to train in it first.[26]
    • Notable User: Boruto Uzumaki
  21. The Absorbing Eye is another Scientific Ninja Tool that appears in Boruto. Delta’s mechanical eyes can absorb chakra—even ultra-powerful techniques—and she can then release it later. But there’s a limit to how much chakra the eyes can hold, and they’ll short out if they get overloaded.[27]
    • Notable user: Delta of Kara
  22. According to Moore, these are some of the most powerful weapons in Naruto.[28] These small black orbs are made of black chakra and extremely malleable. They contain the power of the 5 chakras and can be used in multiple ways, like clearing entire forests or instantly turning things into dust.[29]
    • Notable user: Naruto Uzumaki

12 Common Tools & Weapons

  1. In Naruto, the ninjas (or shinobi) often carry multiple weapons and tools so they’ll be prepared for battle. As Moore notes, most shinobi rely on jutsu first, then supplement battles with ninja tools and specialized weapons depending on their fighting style.[30] Throughout the series, the audience sees certain weapons and tools appear more frequently than others—probably thanks to their portability and versatility. The most popular tools and weapons used in Naruto include:[31]
