Anime expert Ed Erskine says Inosuke’s father hasn’t been revealed yet, but he is shown to be an abusive man. He was briefly seen in flashbacks before being killed by the Upper Moon Two demon, Doma. Inosuke and his mother were briefly taken in by Doma, causing many fans to refer to the demon as Inosuke’s stepdad.

   Inosuke’s father is an unnamed, abusive man. According to Erskine, Inosuke’s father hasn’t been revealed yet. All that’s been shown is that he was an abusive husband. He regularly abused his wife (Inosuke’s mother) and son with assistance from his mother. There isn’t much known about him aside from the fact that he’s an abusive alcoholic, but we do know that he and his mother were both killed by the Upper Moon Two demon Doma for being too noisy.

   • When Inosuke’s father was killed, Doma left his body to rot on the mountainside.
   • Some fans believe the unnamed man isn’t actually Inosuke’s father, as the manga refers to him as Kotoha’s husband, potentially framing him as a husband to Inosuke’s mother rather than the father.

Fan Theories About Inosuke’s Dad

   Some fans believe Shinjuro Rengoku is Inosuke’s dad. Reddit user u/redhotphones did a deep dive into the language used in the Demon Slayer manga and came to the conclusion that, because Inosuke’s father had never been explicitly referred to as his father and his mother was harshly abused, that Shinjuro Rengoku had to be the secret father of Inosuke.

   • This theory claims that Inosuke’s mother was disowned for having an illegitimate child with Shinjuro Rengoku and cites various (seemingly unrelated) story moments as evidence.

   Other fans say Doma is Inosuke’s stepdad. Since Doma initially took in Inosuke and his mother when he was an infant, many fans jokingly say that he is Inosuke’s stepdad. They often use this as a way to softly jump into Inosuke’s more tragic backstory, as Doma kept Inosuke’s mother by his side and initially didn’t plan on eating her before she discovered his true identity as a demon.

   • For example, on March 4, 2025, @demon.slayer.explain uploaded a TikTok video claiming that if Inosuke’s mother had never discovered Doma’s true identity, he may have been raised as a stepson to the demon.
   • On July 12, 2025, @narutoanime75 posted a TikTok saying that “Inosuke never would have guessed that Doma was actually his foster dad,” before going on to explain Doma and Inosuke’s relationship.

   No, Doma is the demon who killed Inosuke’s father. While many fan theories claim that Doma is Inosuke’s stepfather since the demon took him and his mother in as an infant, that isn’t the case. He was initially worshipped by Inosuke’s mother, who lived with him after he killed her abusive husband and mother-in-law, but once she found out he was a demon who ate his followers, she rejected him and attempted to flee.

   • Although she sought refuge in a human village, Inosuke’s mother got lost in the forest, eventually found herself at the edge of a cliff, and was devoured by Doma, who ate her down to the bone.

   Inosuke’s mother is Kotoha Hashibira. Kotoha was in an abusive relationship with her husband, and eventually fled and took refuge in the Eternal Paradise Faith cult, explains Erskine. She took shelter as one of the worshippers of the demon Doma, who led the cult. While she initially worshipped Doma, once she found out he was a demon who ate his followers, she tried to run away to a human village with Inosuke.

   • Although she made it through the forest, she was trapped by a cliff. She tossed Inosuke into the flowing river before being killed and eaten by Doma, Erskine says.
   • Kotoha was a kind, caring mother who sang lullabies to her son when he was a baby, notes Erskine.
   • Doma also described Kotoha as beautiful, yet innocent. Her face was so memorable that when Inosuke’s mask was removed in their fight, Doma immediately recognized his mother’s visage.

Who raised Inosuke?

   Inosuke was initially raised by an abusive father and loving mother. When he was an infant, Inosuke lived under the roof of an abusive, alcoholic father who regularly beat him and his mother. After having enough of the abuse and wanting a better life for Inosuke, his mother ran away and sought shelter in Doma’s Eternal Paradise cult. He was briefly cared for by Doma, but the demon went on to kill his mother.

   After the death of his mother, Inosuke was raised by wild boars. To prevent her son from suffering the same fate as her, Inosuke’s mother threw him into the river below the cliff Doma killed her on. Inosuke was later found by a herd of wild boars, who took him in and raised them as one of their own. This is why Inosuke wears the boar mask and acts like a boar, even though he knows he’s a human.
