   The Soul King serves as the linchpin on the three worlds. For a majority of the series, the Soul King is the most powerful character. Not only is he responsible for the split of the primordial world into Soul Society, Earth, and Hueco Mundo, but he also holds these three worlds together with his overwhelming spiritual pressure, making him an omniscient, omnipotent, god-like figure.

   • Although he’s so powerful, the Soul King was doomed to isolation and sealed away by the Five Great Noble Families, making it so he could never explicitly act in the world.

   The Quincy King can shift the future to his liking. Considering he has the power to rewrite reality itself, it’s no wonder that Yhwach is often looked at as the strongest character in Bleach. His Schrift is The Almighty, which allows him to see the future and alter it to his liking. This means he can stop fatal blows before they happen (as seen during his battle against Ichigo), making him a nearly undefeatable opponent!

   • If it wasn’t for his brazen arrogance and overconfidence, Yhwach very well may have achieved his goal of smashing the three worlds into a single realm.

   Our main character embodies the power of every major race in Bleach. Ichigo’s heritage as a human, Soul Reaper, Quincy, Hollow, and Fullbringer grants him a mix of powers that are unavailable to the other characters in the series, putting him levels above everyone else. He can fire Ceros like a Hollow, use Shikai and Bankai like a Soul Reaper, turn into an actual Hollow, and combine these powers to reach greater heights.

   • Ichigo’s rare heritage even made him a candidate for Soul King, the person who holds the three worlds together.
   • Ichigo is still extremely powerful before he discovers his heritage as a Quincy. He was even able to achieve Bankai in 3 days, which normally takes 10 plus years to achieve and master.

Sousuke Aizen

   Sousuke Aizen is the perfect combination of brains and brawn. Anime and manga expert Cedric Han says that Aizen is a mastermind among masterminds, which is partly why he’s so strong. His Zanpakuto’s ability to manipulate your five senses already makes him a powerhouse, but after pulling the strings so he could get the Hogyoku, his power elevated tenfold. He even took down a majority of the Gotei 13 by himself, and they’re supposed to be the protectors of the Soul Society!

   • Aizen’s strength doesn’t just lie in the physical. He was able to manipulate practically all of the events in Bleach, influencing Ichigo’s birth, how he got his powers, and even the journeys he went on leading up to the Arrancar arc.
   • The Hogyoku grants Aizen the ability to garner immense strength and defenses at will, as well as manipulate reality based on his desires.

Ichibe Hyosube

   Ichibe Hyosube can alter your entire existence using just your name. As the Leader of the Zero Division, Ichibe stands over the Gotei 13 Captains and Lieutenants and the other members of Squad Zero. This is thanks to his ability to manipulate people’s true names, which gives him power over whoever he targets. Using this ability, he can curse someone to be as weak as an ant, and they can seldom stop it.

   • Ichibe’s power goes much deeper than a standard name curse, too. He can censor any name he wants, making it so it can’t be spoken aloud.
   • He can also make it so people who he deems as unworthy to speak literally lose their voices when they try to.
   • Ichibei also has power over the color black, being able to use black ink to strip anything of its name and identity, so long as the ink touches it.
   • When he activates his Bankai, Ichibei can rename an individual. When he does, their physical traits, including strength, are rewritten to match the new name.
     • This ability nearly defeated Yhwach, but the Quincy King was able to use his Almighty to rewrite the change.

Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto

   Captain Yamamoto can burn down the entire Soul Society in a flash. The former Captain-Commander of the Gotei 13 not only founded the group, but also led it for a majority of its existence. He is famously known as the greatest security in the Soul Society thanks to his incredible combat skills and lethal fire-type Zanpakuto, Ryujin Jakka. His Zanpakuto produced flames that could burn anything in their path, and he could have even destroyed the Soul Society had let his power run amok.

   • Despite his incredible strength and lethality, Yamamoto was ultimately bested in battle after having his Bankai stolen from Yhwach.
   • After having his Bankai stolen, Yamamoto was killed by Yhwach. Nevertheless, his strength still rings through the Soul Society as a constant reminder to improve of how incredible he was.

Kenpachi Zaraki

   Kenpachi Zaraki’s strength lies in his sheer brutality and tenacity. The captain of Gotei 13’s 11th Division is a bloodthirsty Soul Reaper who can cut through practically anything, and these two factors put him leagues above his colleagues. He’s so powerful, in fact, that he uses energy suppressors during battle so that he can enjoy the fight for longer. When he removes the suppressors and activates his Bankai, his power grows tenfold, so much that nothing short of a demon can stop him.

   • His power isn’t magical or granted from a special ability, either. Even without his Bankai, he has overwhelming raw power and spiritual pressure that other characters can rarely stand up against.
   • Zaraki also has great respect for those that can keep up with him in battle, so much so that he’ll avoid killing them just for the chance to battle again.
   • Zaraki is so powerful that for a majority of his life, he subconsciously placed a limit on his abilities so he wouldn’t accidentally kill his opponents.

Senjumaru Shutara

   This Squad Zero member uses sewing skills to slaughter opponents. As a member of the Royal Guard, Senjumaru Shutara is extremely powerful, being able to shake the three realms with her Bankai. Even without her Bankai, which traps enemies in a pocket dimension of clothwork that she controls, Senjumaru can take down enemies with ease, pinning them to walls before they notice and using elaborate devices for decoy and defense.

When you combine this with his incredible speed, his power really begins to show itself, as he can cut down enemies before they have a chance to react. Gerard Valkyrie

   Gerard Valkyrie is the hardest Quincy to kill next to Yhwach. Gerard Valkyrie is one of the strongest Quincy after Yhwach, which is thanks to his Schrift, the Miracle. The Miracle makes it so any attack launched against him reflects onto his own strength, making him bigger and stronger in the process. He was even able to tank being cut in half by Kenpachi Zaraki, coming back as an even bigger, more powerful enemy who was only defeated after Yhwach activated the Auswählen.

   • The Auswählen is one of Yhwach’s abilities. It allows him to reabsorb previously bestowed Quincy powers (at the expense of the person’s life).
   • Even while going against Byakuya Kuchiki, Toshiro Hitsugaya, and multiple Soul Reapers, Gerard Valkyrie held his own and didn’t break a sweat.

Jugram Haschwalt

   Haschwalt holds the balance of the world in hands. Jugram Haschwalt is like Yhwach’s second-in-command, and his strength is there to match. His Schirft, called The Balance, allows him to correct worldly imbalances and bestow his own misfortune onto someone else (and vice versa). It’s not his only power, either. He also shares a part of the Almighty with Yhwach, being able to use its abilities while the Quincy King is asleep.

   • Jugram’s access to the Almighty makes him an especially formidable opponent, as he is also able to rewrite the future to his liking.

Lille Barro

   Lille Barro effortlessly cuts down Captains with his deadly-accurate sniping. This elite Quincy member has a Schrift that puts him on par with Shunsui Kyoraku, the current Captain Commander of the Gotei 13. His Schrift, the X-Axis, allows him to phase through attacks and erase anything between his target and the barrel of his gun. He uses this ability to best many Soul Reapers during the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc, and that’s before he pulls out his Vollstandig form.

   • Once he activates his Vollstandig, Lille Barro is able to fire dimension-cutting attacks that can take down whole cities.
   • If it wasn’t for Nanao Ise using her god-splitting family weapon to defeat him, Lille Barro would still be wreaking havoc in the Soul Society.

Uryu Ishida

   Uryu Ishida can negate damage or buffs from between two points in time. Although he doesn’t have the flashiest moments in the series, Ishida sees a power boost during the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc that puts him on a caliber similar to Jugram Haschwalt. This power boost granted him his Schrift, the Antithesis, which lets him reverse anything between two points in time. Jugram suggests that it may be strong enough to reverse damage from Yhwach, showing how far Ishida has come since the start of the series.

   • Even without his Schrift, Ishida is incredibly powerful. He’s able to use his Quincy bow to effortlessly take down Hollows, keep up with Soul Reaper Captains, and go against Ichigo himself!

Shunsui Kyoraku

   Kyoraku has the sword-skills and spiritual pressure to rival any other Captain. As the new Captain-Commander of the Gotei 13, Kyoraku’s strength is noted by his title. He’s an incredible swordsman with immense spiritual pressure and fighting skills, the only problem is that he could care less about fighting. He rarely shows his strength off, but when it’s time to get serious, Kyoraku doesn’t hesitate to pull all of his tricks out of the bag if it means winning.

   • Kyoraku’s Bankai makes him especially powerful, as it forces the opponent to participate in lethal versions of children’s games where if they lose, they’re severely injured.

Kisuke Urahara

   Urahara’s bag of tricks is neverending, and that makes him lethal. Urahara is one of the Five Special War Powers, which were designated by Yhwach as threats who could shift the tide of the war. This was because of his supreme cunningness and unpredictability, as he uses his genius and resourcefulness to come up with counters to practically anything the enemy can throw at him.

   • He may not be as strong as Ichigo, but Urahara can definitely hold his own against the same opponents Ichigo faces, and oftentimes, he’s shown himself to be able to defeat them better than our favorite Soul Reaper-Quincy hybrid.
   • Urahara’s Bankai makes him even more powerful, as it grants him the ability to deconstruct and reconstruct matter to his liking.

Yoruichi Shihoin

   Yoruichi is arguably the fastest person in Soul Society. As the former head of the Shihoin clan and former captain of the 2nd Division of the Gotei 13, Yoruichi’s strength speaks for itself. She’s a Shunpo master, making her one of the fastest people in the Soul Society. She also has incredible spiritual pressure, which was enough to put the powerful Ulquiorra Cifer on guard when near her.

   • Yoruichi is so strong that she forgoes using her Zanpakuto, instead relying on hand-to-hand combat and immense speed to take on opponents.

As the captain of the 6th Division of the Gotei 13 and the 28th head of the Kuchiki clan, Byakuya Kuchiki is a prodigy among prodigies. He’s a master swordsman, has incredible spiritual pressure, and wields a lethal Bankai. He often defeats his opponents with little effort thanks to said Bankai, which splits his Zanpakuto into thousands of tiny blades that rip them to pieces.

   • Even without his Bankai, Byakuya is super strong, as he’s skilled in the art of Kido (magic spells), a master hand-to-hand combatant, and one of the fastests swordsmen in the Soul Society.

Toshiro Hitsugaya

   Hitsugaya is a prodigy who’s body can’t keep up with his strength. As the captain of the 10th Division of the Gotei 13, Hitsugaya has always been one of the more powerful characters on Bleach’s roster. As a child, he was a prodigy who had already connected with his Zanpakuto spirit. That’s not to mention that his Zanpakuto is the strongest ice-type in all of Soul Society, so strong that when he activates it to its fullest potential, his body is forced to the age of an adult to compensate.

   • When his Bankai is fully activated, Hitsugaya can freeze anything at will, even a powerhouse like Gerard Valkyrie.

Orihime Inoue

   • Orihime’s powers of rejection give her the ability to reject the current reality of something and revert it to how it was before. For example, if Ichigo gets injured on the battlefield, she can reject the injury to effectively heal him.

Gremmy’s Schfit, The Visionary, allows him to bring anything he imagines to reality, making him an extremely dangerous threat to our heroes. He can imagine that a person’s arm is cookies and reality will make that so, or he can imagine that he’s stronger than anyone else on the battlefield, which will then come true.

   • Gremmy’s imagination can also create clones, which he can use to increase the power of his imagination and bring scarier things to life. He once even imagined a huge meteorite that nearly destroyed Soul Society!

Retsu Unohana

   As the first Kenpachi, Unohana was especially brutal and notorious. Although her time as the Captain of Gotei 13’s Fourth Division wouldn’t hint at it, Unohana was a deadly swordsman who used countless styles of swordsmanship to cut down her enemies. She loved to fight, and her immense spiritual pressure ensured that she never lost a fight that she didn’t intend to. Even if she was close to losing, her Bankai allowed her to instantly heal herself before the end of the fight.

   • Unohana was ultimately killed by her successor, Kenpachi Zaraki, whom she let fatally stab her so he could remove the mental blocks forcing him to hold himself back.

Before you even engage with him in battle, you have to be careful so that he doesn’t infect you with some lethal poison.

   • Kurotsuchi’s pure lethality was shown during his fight with Szayelaporro Granz, when he poisoned the Espada with a toxin that made a single second feel like centuries, then stabbed him in the heart.
