Few jutsu in Naruto are as iconic as the Summoning Jutsu. There’s only so many jutsu that have you randomly pressing your hands together in hopes of bringing fantasy to reality. If you’re ready to take it a step further and actually learn the hand signs needed to complete the Summoning Jutsu, read on. Not only do we explain how to do the hand signs, but we also explain Summoning Jutsu itself, some of its users, and more!
Naruto Summoning Jutsu Hand Signs
To do the Summoning Jutsu, you must perform the boar, dog, bird, monkey, and ram hand signs in that order. Start by biting your thumb and pressing it into your hand. Then perform the following hand signs and slam your hand on the ground to “activate” the jutsu:
- Boar: Press your fists together, raise your thumbs, then face your hands toward the ground.
- Dog: Place a straightened left hand over a balled right fist.
- Bird: Curl and interlock your fingers, then press the thumbs, third fingers, and index fingers together as you point them toward you and the sky, respectively.
- Monkey: Place your right hand over an upward-facing left hand with the right thumb in between the left pinky and third finger.
- Ram: Curl your right hand, raise the index and middle fingers on both hands, and press them together as you place your left pinky and middle fingers over the other hand.
Steps
Summoning Jutsu Hand Signs (Full Sequence)
-
Boar For the first Summoning Jutsu hand sign, face your hands toward the ground. Then, press your palms together with your fingers and thumb folded inward like you’re clapping.[1]
- Before you perform this hand sign, bite your thumb and press it into your hand to simulate the blood contract.

Dog The second hand sign for the Summoning Jutsu is a simple one. All you have to do is ball your right hand into a fist and face the fingers toward the ground. Once you do that, place a straightened left hand on top of the fist to complete the sign.[2]Advertisement
-
Bird For the third Summoning Jutsu hand sign, start by curling your fingers toward the palms, then interlock them so there’s space between your knuckles. Keep your fingers curled as you bring the pinky and third fingers of each hand up toward the sky. Press those fingers together to form a triangle shape, then bring your thumbs out toward you as you press them together.[3]
- This one takes a little work compared to the other signs, so stretch your fingers before trying to pull it off.
-
Monkey For this simple sign, all you have to do is face your left palm toward the sky, place your right hand on top of it, and place your left thumb into the crevice between your right pinky and third finger.[4]
-
Ram For the final Summoning Jutsu hand sign, curl your right hand’s third and pinky fingers over the folded third and pinky fingers of your left hand. Then, raise the index and middle fingers of each hand toward the sky as you press them together. Raise and press your thumbs together at the same time to complete the hand sign.[5]
- While you can’t actually summon an animal or object using these hand signs, you can still press your hand down to the ground like Naruto ninjas do when they activate the jutsu!
